Elks National Foundation

We can all agree 2020 is not a normal year. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses have been shuttered for months. People are out of work. Your financial situation may be much different this year than it was last year. If you are able to give, consider joining the Fidelity Club, the ENF’s monthly giving program. In five minutes, you can establish an automatic, regularly scheduled donation that occurs monthly or quarterly. Monthly gifts can be as little as $5; quarterly gifts can be as little as $15. Joining the Fidelity Club helps ensure the Elks are there during times like these. Through the monthly giving program, you’ll have opportunities to earn exclusive pins and membership card stickers, too. Members of the Fidelity Club earn their first pin after just 12 gifts https://www.elks.org/enf/fidelityclub.cfm

ENF Pin Presentation

On Monday August 17, 2020, Frackville Elks Lodge No. 1533 Exalted Ruler William Cickavage presented two award pins to Lance Nelson, PDDGER, PER, Lodge Trustee. Both pins were awarded by the Elks National Foundation. Thanks to contributions from generous Elk member donors, the ENF has received more than $270 million in contributions and bequests since its inception. Nelson was presented with the ENF Loyalty pin for 15-years of consecutive donations and the second pin was for the prestigious ENF Gold Level status for donating over $20,000 cumulatively.

Frackville Elks Birthdays A Message from our Grand Exalted Ruler As the COVID-19 pandemic has taken over our lives, it has also taken over the financial stability of many of our Lodges within the Order of Elks. After discussions with various Grand Lodge officials, the following action was recommended and approved by the Board of Grand Trustees: It is the recommendation of the Board of Grand Trustees that Grand Lodge provide to each Local Lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America a monetary one-time grant in the amount of $1,500 for Lodge COVID-19 financial relief. Be advised, the total amount provided to assist our Local Lodges finances will be more than $2.7 million dollars. On behalf of the Grand Lodge family, I want to thank everyone for all you do in making the BPOE the greatest fraternal organization around. And lastly…….Stay Safe, Stay Healthy and God Bless!! Fraternally, Paul R Ryan Grand Exalted Ruler

Used Stamps

For the past few years, the Frackville Elks Lodge has been collecting and donating used stamps to help with therapy for Veterans. Throughout the 2019-20 Lodge year, we collected over 8,600 used stamps! WOW! A special thank you to Megan Bane, daughter of Loyal Knight Ron Bane, for counting all of them and keeping them in order. So, cut the stamps off of your envelopes before you throw them away, and please donate them at the Lodge.

Greetings! As I write this, the Lodge is still operating under the latest restrictions placed on clubs, bars, and restaurants by Governor Wolf. But we are open and offering food and drinks Thursday through Sunday. Feel free to stop in for a few drinks and a bite to eat with your fellow Elks members. The COVID-19 shutdown and restrictions have been a setback for the Lodge in many ways. We were prepared to start our patio project in the spring, but that had to be postponed. We are still hopeful that we can begin the patio, as well as our outdoor storage area, this year. Also, because of the restrictions placed on us, we have been forced to cancel many events, including our annual purse bingo. This event was our biggest fundraiser for the PA Elks Major Project, the Elks Home Service Program. We are hoping to at least match our contribution from last year which was about $4800. To do this, we will have to come up with some other fundraisers, but we could also use your help. If each member could donate just $10, we would pretty much reach our goal. Remember, Charity is one of the four basic principles of Elkdom, and the main reason Elks lodges exist. Anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated! It doesn’t look like the COVID-19 restrictions we are operating under will change any time soon, so our Lodge activities will be limited. If you can, please try to support those events we can hold, such as our Labor Day Grilling, election day meal, and our monthly take-out dinners. Thank you so much for any help you can give, and I hope to see you at the Lodge!

A Message from the Exalted Ruler

William Cickavage, E.R. 2020-2021

As summer is starting to come to a close I would like to give everyone an update on events that the Elks lodge offered over the course of the last few months. We had a great turnout for our Bean soup sale back in July and also the Elkfest food drive through back in August. I would like to thank all members who were involved to make each of these events a Great Success, we couldn't do it without the help and dedication of everyone! I'm asking everyone to checkout our Facebook site for one of our most recent fundraiser, the On Line Raffle. We have many great prizes going off twice a week. Please support our lodge. Please check for more upcoming events as we strive to make the Frackville Elks Lodge the best it can be. Sincerely Andrew J. Szczyglak House Committee Chairman

Editor’s note: If you are interested in joining the House Committee or becoming chairperson, please let the Lodge Secretary know of your intentions, as the Exalted Ruler-elect will ultimately be the one choosing the 7-member committee for Lodge year 2020-21.

A Quick Note From Lodge Trustee Mark Andrewcavage, P.E.R. The P.E.R. Association is continuing to be active in providing guidance to the Lodge Officers and provide assistance in club events. The association meets quarterly on the second Sunday of the month at 4:30 PM (January, April, July, October). All past Exalted Rulers are encouraged to attend. Our next meeting is October 4, hope to see you all there. The Trustees, Exalted Ruler, and members of various committees have been busy planning on additions and upgrades to your Lodge. The trustees are currently in the process of spearheading the addition of a storage area. This storage area will be built outside of the double back door and will allow us amply storage to house our tables and chairs when not in use for a function. The storage addition will be accompanied by the replacement of the back doors, to help weatherproof and secure the Lodge. The Trustees are also looking into replacing the decades old thermostats in the building to increase efficiency and provide a pleasurable climate for you visits to the Lodge. Without your continued support of our Lodge functions, these projects could not be possible. On behalf of all Lodge Trustees and Officers, I would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU!

Makenzey is a beautiful 19-year old girl who was born with Down syndrome. She lives with her mother, sister, and brother in Clinton County. Makenzey loves animals and enjoys their ducks, cats, a dog, ferrets, and her bunny. This family has received home service visits from the Elks Home Service Program since Makenzey was three years old. During that time, her Elks Home Service Nurse has been Roberta Chubb, RN. This year, Bert is celebrating her 20th year with the Home Service Program. Bert says, “Makenzey has become an outgoing young lady who can express her needs and wants. She has become more independent doing some of her ADL’s (activities of daily living). It has been a pleasure to be her nurse and see the goals she has accomplished.” Makenzey’s mother writes: “Roberta Chubb (Bert) has been our Elks Nurse for the last 15 years. She is not only our nurse but, we feel she is part of our family. She’s helped us through the ups and downs of Makenzey’s life. She has helped us with dealing with the school to make sure she gets what she needs for her education. She is very knowledgeable of the education laws and makes sure the school follows the laws. Bert is always professional but “firm” when she needs to be. Bert has helped us get equipment for Makenzey, most recently she got us a wheelchair for Makenzey for her to use after surgery on her ankle. At our last IEP meeting, the school and I thought an iPod would be helpful for Makenzey’s schoolwork. Bert did the paperwork to get her the iPod. Within a week she delivered the iPod. Bert is a good listener. There are times I just need to vent. She always makes the time for me. One of the many things that Bert has taught me is, that I am Makenzey’s advocate but most importantly I am her voice. We are very lucky to have her as our nurse. We’re hoping she continues to work for the Elks, because we don’t know what we would do without her.”

Charity

The Elks is one of the foremost charitable organizations in the United States. If you would like to give to any of the charities we support, please see a lodge officer for ways to donate.

Now more than ever we need your support as many of our local fundraisers, raffles and 50/50 have been canceled due to the pandemic.

ENF-Home Service-Veterans-Youth

From State Home Service Chair Maureen DeStefano, PER

The Pennsylvania State Home Service Committee would like to express how proud we are of all the lodges for the effort they put into fund raising throughout the year. It does not have the same effect as being in the March and everyone cheering for each other, no drum roll, no noise makers annoying those around us. While losing the last 2 months of our fund-raising year and without a spring convention, hospitality room auctions and basket raffles, our lodges still manage to raise.. $433,302.92 All the plaques and awards will be given out at the Fall convention. Our nurses are still working and helping clients in anyway possible. We also need to be creative in how to raise money this year in support of our Major Projects Home Service program.

A Story from one of Pennsylvania’s Home Service Nurse, generously supported through your donations
