Anthem Psalm 110 from Solemn Vespers of a Confessor Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Heather Cooper, piano

Beatus vir qui timet Dominum,

n mandatis ejus volet nimis.

Potens in terra erit semen ejus,

generatio rectorum e bendicetur.

Gloria et divitiae in domo ejus,

et justitia ejus manet in saeculum saeculi.

Exortum est in tenebris lumen rectis,

misericors et miserator et justus.

Jucundus homo, qui miseretur et commodat,

disponet sermones suos in judicio.

Quia in aeternum non commovebitur.

In memoria aeterna erit justus,

ab auditione mala non timebit.

Paratum cor ejus sperare in Domino.

Confirmatum est cor ejus; Non commovebitur

donec despiciat inimicos suos.

Dispersit, dedit pauperibus,

justitia ejus manet in saeculum saeculi.

Cornu ejus exaltabitur in gloria.

Peccator videbit et irascetur:

dentibus suis fremet et tabescet:

desiderium peccatorum peribit.

Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto.

Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper,

et in saecula saeculorum, Amen.

Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,

who delights in his commandments.

His seed shall be mighty upon the earth;

the generation of the righteous shall be blessed.

Glory and prosperity shall be in his house;

and his justice endures from generation to generation.

A light has risen in the darkness

for the upright: one who is merciful, compassionate, and just.

Happy is the man who sympathizes and shares,

who chooses his words with discretion;

Because he will not be troubled for eternity;

the just man shall be in everlasting remembrance.

He shall not fear evil tidings;

his heart is ready to hope in the Lord.

His heart is strengthened; he shall not be shaken

until he looks down upon his enemies.

He disperses, he gives to the poor;

His justice endures from generation to generation.

His horn shall be exalted with honor.

The wicked will see, and be angered;

He will gnash with his teeth, and waste away.

The desire of the wicked shall perish.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,

world without end, Amen.

Announcing the Inaugural Concert

for our new Christ Church

Bösendorfer Grand Piano:

This Evening at 7:00 pm

The Cleveland Orchestra Quintet

The first concert use of the new grand piano in Christ Presbyterian Church will be played by some of the “inner circle” of the world famous Cleveland Orchestra. Principal Keyboard artist, Joela Jones, will be joined by a string quartet who are either principals or assistant principals of the violin, viola, and cello sections of the orchestra. The program will include piano solos, a duet with her husband cellist, and a quintet with the strings in order to feature the collaborative qualities of this amazing new instrument in our sanctuary.

Joela Jones holds the Rudolph Serkin Endowed Chair, which includes the duties of playing piano, organ, harpsichord, celesta, synthesizer, and accordion with The Cleveland Orchestra. As soloist with the Orchestra, she has performed over fifty different concertos in more than 200 performances at Severance Hall and Blossom Music Center as well as on tour in Europe and Asia. Since the renovation of Severance Hall’s Norton Memorial Organ in 2001, Ms. Jones has performed works for organ and orchestra by Barber, Poulenc, Saint-Saëns, Janáček, MacMillan, and Ives. She is also principal accompanist for the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus and visiting vocal soloists.

The 2014-2015 season of TAG gets underway on Tuesday, October 21 with an interesting program involving animals. We will hear from Fran Kitchen, a wildlife rehabilitator based in Akron. The goal and mission of her work is to get those animals back into the wild where they belong. She is the first wildlife rehabilitator to be inducted into the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Hall of Fame. Not only will she tell us about her adventures and misadventures with wildlife, she’ll bring some with her! Be prepared to get up close and personal with some interesting critters.

As always, you are sure to enjoy the wonderful meal and the entertaining and informative program. You will want to plan to gather at 11:30 for a time of fellowship and greeting friends, followed by a meditation at 11:45, and lunch at noon. The program will begin at approximately 12:45 pm.
