the Year as a redshirt sophomore and helped the Broncos reach the NCAA tour-nament. As a redshirt junior Webb aver-aged 15.8 points and 9.1 rebound, and was selected to MWC first team honors which attracted NBA attention, and prompted his decision to leave school early for the NBA draft.

While at NIC Webb appeared in all 31 games, including 17 starts for the Cardi-nals. He averaged 9.2 points and 5.2 re-bounds per game, and shot 53 percent from the floor and 76.8 percent from the free throw line. He scored in double fig-ures 14 times, including a season best 20 points against Yakima Valley College. In his lone season as a Cardinal he helped NIC to a 26-5 record and NJCAA top 10 national ranking.

Other Cardinals selected in the NBA draft include NIC Hall of Fame inductee Greg Wiltjer (Oregon State/ University of Vancouver) selected by the Chicago Bulls- 2nd Round 1984, and Paul Rogers (Gon-zaga) selected by the Los Angeles Lakers- 2nd Round 1997.

MEN’S SOCCER Coaches spent several days recruiting on

the road in June and July, identifying forty players for the incoming classes of 2017 and 2018. Though it was a busy summer, the staff believes it was a good investment of their time to get out and identify and meet poten-tial student-athletes for the coming years.

Men’s soccer returns eight and welcomes eighteen freshmen to the team this year. Key returners include centerbacks Cobi Brower and Morgan Olson. In the attack, central midfielders Max Mularski and Kade Murphree return skill and experience. Up top, Alec Maldonado was a major threat that opponents ze-roed in on last year. He was so hard to manage once he re-ceived the ball, op-ponents fouled him an average of 5.7 times per game. Among the freshmen, the coaches expect Jose Perez to contribute to the attack while Cade Roske is expected to have a big presence in defen-sive midfield. Muganza Katanga and Jared Napoles, both from Boise, are also expected to contribute to a dynamic midfield in 2016. Check out the schedule for upcoming home games and see your new look Cardinals!

VOLLEYBALLAs we go to print the women's volleyball

team is on their last week of double days looking forward for their first pre-season tournament, August 27th and 28th in Springfield, Oregon. The Lady Cardinals bring back a hand-ful of sophomores who will bring lots of experience and con-fidence to the court. Brooke Bell, Britta-ny Gay, Zoia Basar-gin and Julie Staffler are poised to leaders of the team as we enter the NWAC for the first time. We are excited about our incoming

freshmen class, a talented group that prac-tices hard and have shown that they are not afraid to compete.

Our first home match is not until Septem-ber 14, but we will see some familiar faces from the SWAC before then, as we compete in tournaments at College of Southern Idaho and Salt Lake Community College. Also, we would like to introduce our new assistant, Britta Forsythe to our team. She replaces Drew Pascua who is now the assistant coach at Gonzaga University on staff with his sister, the new appointed GU head coach.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALLWe are excited to get the school year roll-

ing with our new squad of Lady Cardinals heading into our first NWAC season. We started the summer off with our very suc-cessful girls basketball camp the first week after local school districts commenced for the summer. A big thank you goes out to our players who made such a positive impact on the young campers present. They were Shayna Allert Joce-lyn Cook-Cox, Cierra Dvorak, Kassin Hop-kins, Shae Logozzo, Whitney Meier, and Shelby Cloninger. The summer was also busy with class reg-istrations, housing arrangements, and summer workouts for the entire team but especially for our large in-coming freshman class. Their passion and en-thusiasm is contagious and we look forward to working with them every day.

Last year marked our tenth Academic All-American team in the last twelve years and we look forward to continuing our tradition of excellence on the court and in the class-room as we transition aggressively into the NWAC. We would like to wish the best of luck to our 2016 graduates who have moved on to four-year programs next year: Alyssa Case (College of Idaho), Shelby Cloninger (University of Alaska-Anchorage), Maci Benedict (Corbin College), Monica Land-deck (Montana Tech University), Gracie Roberts (University of Detroit Mercy), Stor-

mee Van Belle (Eastern Oregon University) and Grace Varcoe (California State Univer-sity East Bay).

In addition, coaches Chris and Carey Carl-son had a busy summer impacting our North Idaho community by again coaching the North Idaho Elite high school team consist-ing primarily within a 30 minutes radius of Coeur d’ Alene. The team went 25-7 over a seven tournament span which included the most highly recruited high school tourna-ments on the west coast. It is our philoso-phy that we are to make a strong impact on our community. Founding and coaching this North Idaho Elite program has proved to make a difference in so many young ladies lives. It has been a blessing to give to the community in this way.

WRESTLINGThe NIC wrestling team enjoyed a very

successful off-season after our intense re-cruiting efforts to reload in the spring. Head Wrestling Coach Pat Whitcomb will be en-tering his 20th sea-son here at helm of the most successful wrestling program in the history of the NJCAA. The 2016-2017 Wrestling team roster will consist of young men from the West Coast all the way to Alabama. We feel like with the cre-dentials of the recruiting class this team will be in the hunt for an NJCAA championship trophy at season end.

This summer the North Idaho Wrestling camps were again a prominent revenue source for the college with athletes utilizing the dorms and gymnasium. It has proven to be an exceptional marketing resource for the college, attracting male and female wrestlers of all ages, including many high school po-tential students.

The Wrestling program will continue the community service oriented events this Fall. On September 1st the wrestlers will be handing out free school supplies to children in need as part of the WE CARE program. September 18th the wrestlers will be helping

MEN’S BASKETBALLUnfortunately, summer is wrapping up

and the weather is soon to change. The great thing about this time of year is that basketball season is right around the corner. We cur-rently have all our players on campus and we prepared for two of our biggest community

events of the year. We started the year off with two weeks of volunteering. First we assisted with set up and take down of the CDA Ironman. Immediately after that we prepared for our annual 3-on-3 tournament, CDA Shootout, our larg-est department fund-

raiser. These are two great events for not only our community, but for North Idaho College. Hopefully you were able to come out and support both of these events.

Coming off the most memorable season in school history is no easy task. We are excited for the upcoming year and love our group of student/athletes. We have a great mixture of returners, transfers, and incoming freshman. We are itching to get on the court with this group and start working toward another great year. Our student/athletes are all registered and ready to hit the classroom and court hard this year. Thanks again for all your support and we look forward to seeing you at the up-coming events. GO CARDS!!

SOFTBALLThe softball team is ready for the kick-

off for the 2016-2017 season. The busy fall schedule starts with the 1st annual NIC In-vitational September 9-11. This is a youth softball tournament that our team will be run-ning. Our annual alumni game will be Sep-tember 17th at 1:00 pm at Memorial Field. On September 24th the Cardinals will head to Missoula for the Montana Fall Invitational with games against University of Montana at

11:00 am and Mon-tana State University-Billings at 1:30 pm. On September 25th the Cardinals will host the North Idaho Fall Invitational with summer ball teams from the Boise area scrimmaging the Car-dinals. On October 1st the Cardinals will

travel to Ellensburg, WA to face off with the Wildcats of Central Washington University at 1:00 pm. To wrap up the fall season the Car-dinals will go to Spokane Falls on October 15th for two round robin games vs. Spokane area summer ball teams.

GOLFAs the summer has flown by we are cur-

rently getting things in place for the fall sea-son to begin. Both returning Cardinals and future Cardinals (for this year) had some very impressive tournament finishes over the sum-mer. There are some significant changes on both the men’s and women's roster this year.

On the men's side we lost our number one, Braydon Swapp, but retain Luke Lo-

gan, Tyler Azevedo, and Jackson Shaver who were also on the traveling team last season. I am adding five solid freshman who will each have a shot at breaking into the top 3 (Brady Nel-son, Preston Nelson, Ross Gilbert, Sean Langham, & Todd Henderson).

On the women’s side we are going to be a very young team. We are also losing our number one, Nicole Miller, who took an of-fer to play at Western Washington but are still retaining the number two and three play-ers Erica Frazier and Amalia Negrette. I am adding seven freshmen to the women’s team this year to round out our roster at nine (Aly Mabey, Katie Fyall, Madi Brown, Megan Lawton, Mikal Jerman, Mikala Page, and Star Martin). Each of these girls are capable

of shooting some great scores and I’m really excited to see what they can do together as a team. It should be another solid year as we defend the NWAC women’s championship, and improve on the near miss for the men’s title! Go Cards!

CHEERWe start the new year off with a new

head cheer coach, but a familiar face to the Cardinal program. Cassondra Motley joins

the staff as the new leader after serving as an assistant part-time last year. She replaces Jenn Lucas who only stayed for one year due to a busy work schedule and new marriage. Cassie was a member of the cheer squad under Dawn Smith and will renew the

energy in the program that helped the Car-dinals earn a national championship. Stop by the concession stand at the 3-on-3 stand and meet Cassie and her new cheer squad!

WOMEN'S SOCCERAfter an intense preseason training camp

the Lady Cardinals are ready to see another opponent besides themselves. The NWAC

Friendlies tourna-ment at the Willa-malene Sports Com-plex in Springfield, Oregon will give us a chance to see all of the teams in the NWAC. We were able to get two tough matches in against Bellevue Commu-nity College and Clark College, and

we played a lot of new faces. Our first home game is against Blue Mountain CC on Sept 17 at noon.

Come check out the team as we prepare for another playoff run.
