General Description

TheSensit®PMD,referredtoasthe“PMD”,isdesignedtodetectmethanegasfrom1ppmupto100%volume.ThePMDmaybeusedforwalkingsurveysandvehiclesurveys(whenproperlyinstalled)forundergroundnaturalgaspipingsystems.Otherapplicationsincludelandfillmonitoringandcheckingpipingsystemswhereotherinterferinggasesmayprovideinaccuratereadings.

ThePMDsensesgasusingInfrared(IR)AbsorptionSpectroscopyincombinationwithanelectronicnarrowbandpassfilter.Thistechnologyutilizesaninfraredlightsourcewithanoutputthatischangedwhencertaingasesabsorbthelightoutput.Thefilteronlyallowsspecific lightwavelengthstobemonitoredandmeasured. Theconcentrationofgas isproportionaltotheamountofspecificIRlightabsorbedandisdisplayedinPPM,%LELand/or%Vol.

ThePMDhasalargedisplayindicatingconcentrationandotherinstrumentfunctionssuchasbatterychargeandperformance.Aninternalpumpprovidesrapidsamplingintothedetectionchamber.Audibleandvisualalarmsindicatewhenpresetalarmsareexceeded.Bluetoothdatatransmissionprovidescommunicationofrealtimeandstoreddata.OptionalGPSandDataLoggingallowforfurtherrecordingoftime,dateandlocationdata.

Toremovethebatterypackturntheretainingscrews¼turn.Pullthebottomofthepackawayfromthemainhousing.Rechargingofthebatterypackrequiresremovalfromthemainhousing.

Toreplaceslidethetoptabsofthebatterypackintotheretainersatthetopofthemainhousing.Pushthebottomintoplaceandturnandlocktheretainingscrews.

Operation and Field Use

ToactivateinstrumentpushPOWERbutton.Thefollowingwarm-upsequencewilloccur:

1. Warm-upsequence(a-i)withinfobelow.

Ifthealarmsettinghasbeenexceededpressandreleasethe“A”buttonto disablethealarm.Thealarmsoundwillautomaticallyresetwhenthe concentrationhasgonebelowthethresholdvalue.Secondaryalarmsathigher concentrationwillactivatewhenvaluesareexceeded.Pressandreleasethe“A” buttonagaintomutesecondaryalarms.Duringanyalarm,thedisplaybacklight willbeREDincolor.

5. Checkfiltersdailyforbestresults.

6. Batterypowerisdisplayedusingabatteryvoltageicon.Fullbatteryis12.0v. IconwillflashandBATLOWwillintermittentlyflashonthedisplay~8v. BATFAILwillbedisplayedwheninsufficientbatterypowerisavailable.

WhenBATLOWisindicated,pressanybuttontoacknowledgethewarning.Failure toacknowledgewithin30secondswillresultinautomaticpowerofftoprotect batteriesfromexcessivedischarge.

7. Toturnofforputintostandbymodepushandholdthe“A”button.Itwill display“SHUTDOWN”onleftsideand“STANDBY”onrightsideofthedisplay. Pressthe‘A’buttontoturntheinstrumentoff.Press‘C’toputunitinstandby modewhichwillreducepowerconsumptionandwillallowyoutoreducethe warmuptimetoapproximatelytwominutes.Werecommendusingstandby modeforlessthan1hour.

Calibration Check

Toverifytheproperoperationofthisinstrumentapplyaknownconcentrationof50-1000ppmmethanetothesamplesystempriortouse.

Thisisnotarequiredprocessbutisrecommendediftheproducthasnotbeenusedformorethan30days.

Calibration

ThePMDrequirescalibrationevery3months.Anautomaticreminderwillnotifytheuserthatcalibrationisdueatstartup.

Calibrationcanonlybeperformediftheinstrumenthasbeenoperationalfor30minutes.

Tocalibratetheareamustbeknowntobegasfree.Ifthereismethaneintheareaabottleofzeroairwillbenecessary.Othergasesrequiredinclude1000ppm,2.5%and100%methane(pipelinegasisalsoacceptable).Somegasescanbecalibratedindividually.ContactSENSITTechnologiesServiceDepartmentformoreinformation.

Calibrationisperformedwiththepumpoffifthereisnoaccesstodemandflowregulatorsforthecalibrationbottles.Turn-offisselectedpriortocalibration.

CalibrationisperformedthroughtheUserMenu.Usingthe“B”buttonaccesstheUserMenu.Usethe“C”buttontoscrollto“CalibMenu”.

Tobeginpressthe“B”button.Iftheinstrumenthasnotoperatedfor30minutesacountdowntimerinsecondswillbedisplayed.Whentheproperamountoftimehasbeenmetthedisplaywillshow“Proceed”.Pressanybutton.Abeepwillbeheard.

2.Click“SaveReport”button.Savereportas.CSV(CommaDelimited)fileformat.This formatwillonlysaveloginformationforwhichvalidGPScoordinateinformationisavailable.

3.Goto:http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/Select“Google Maps”.

Import your .CVS file:

1.Usingbrowsebutton,selectthefileyouwishtoview.

2.Selectthemaptype.
