STATE TIMES NEWS REASI: District Development Commissioner, Parsanna Ramaswamy G. on Friday reviewed the arrangements for Independence Day celebrations here today at a meeting of the concerned departments. The meeting was attended by ADDC Ramesh Chander, ADC Babu Ram, ACR Harbans Lal, Commandant Army, Commandant CRPF, ACD, DYSP DAR, DTO, DPO, CEO, CMO, PDD&PWD Engineers DYSSO, DFOs besides other district and sectoral officers. The meeting decided that the main function will be held at Sports stadium where the VIP shall unfurl the National Flag and take salute from the march past contingents drawn from belt forces and school students. Various committees were con- stituted by the Deputy Commissioner for monitoring necessary arrangements for the celebrations. He exhorted upon the concerned agencies to ensure that the arrangements are put in place well in time for smooth conduct of the day. As per the past practice, the Day will start with the playing of Shehnai Vadan by Information Department. After the flag hoisting and parade ceremony, cultural items on the theme of national integration and national themes would be presented by the students of the government and private schools. The DDC directed the officers to put in sincere efforts for making arrangements well in advance. He further dis- cussed in detail the arrange- ments related to barricading, seating, sanitation, security, traffic regulation, power, water and deployment of fire tenders etc. The DDC directed PHE and PDD to ensure availability of drinking water and uninter- rupted power supply on the National Day as well as on all the rehearsal days. The Health Department was asked to make available sufficient number of doctors along with an ambu- lance and medicines at the venue. Directions were also passed on to Municipal Committee to intensify the san- itation drive in the city and the main venue. The DC directed civic authorities to illuminate the venue and put up tempo- rary toilets for the convenience of the visitors, students and other participants. STATE TIMES NEWS MENDHAR: Terming existing District Planning Boards as 'illegal bodies' , Dr Shazad Malik, Vice Chancellor of Sai Nath University requested the Governor N.N Vohra to imme- diately dissolve all existing dis- trict planning boards across the State. The appeal for dissolution of these boards has been made by Dr Shazad while addressing a gathering in Naka Manjhari Panchayat Halqa of border town Mendhar under Youth Motivational and Border Residents Interaction Program. The VC appealed to Governor to dissolve these boards and alleged that the successive governments for political considerations appointed their ministers as the chairpersons of these boards. The VC informed the people that though there is provision of constitution of District Development and planning board in each district under the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act 1989 and further citing section 45, 46 and 47 of the act, the VC said this act clearly calls for elected and democratic bodies unlike existing boards where like mon- archs the ministers are appoint- ed as chairpersons unlawfully. The VC said how a non Local (Minister) can spare time and take decisions at micro level as a district is comprised of sever- al tehsils, blocks, panchayats and wards. The VC also demanded inclusion of eminent and prominent locals of the dis- tricts as special invitees in meetings of new District Development and Planning Boards(DDPBs) as and when constituted as per the act. During the meeting in Naka Manjhari, the locals also apprised the VC about shortage of clean drinking water and shortage of staff in government schools. Earlier in the day Prominent people of the area gave a warm welcome to the vice Chancellor on his arrival in the village. Plantation drive launched in GHS Mehtka STATE TIMES NEWS RAJOURI: A plantation drive was launched by DFO Social Forestry Rajouri Nadeem Iqbal Mirza in Government High School (GHS) Mehtka on Friday in presence of prominent persons of the village. Range Officer Gulshan Kumar, Block Officer Romesh Chander and other forest team officials in collaboration with the school staff and the stu- dents planted 350 saplings of fruit trees and other ornamen- tal plants within the school premises. While addressing the Range Officer advised the students that they are better ambassa- dors in the remote areas to spread the message of planting trees which not only maintain the ecological balance but also provide us oxygen, fruits and herbs. He also advised the stu- dents to plant one tree every year. Lecture on 'Join Armed Forces' conducted STATE TIMES NEWS RAJOURI: Army conducted an awareness lecture on 'Join Armed Forces' with an aim of educating the eligible students about the large number of job opportunities available in Armed Forces. Assistance is also being offered in terms of guidance to pursue higher edu- cation, acquire skills based qual- ifications required to pursue this noble profession. Information on various entry schemes, eligi- bility in terms of education qual- ification and physical attributes was shared. The lecture was fol- lowed by an interactive session during which queries of the par- ticipants were addressed by the speaker in simple and effective manner. Large number of youth and prominent members of the society from Keri and adjoining areas attended the event. The audience appreciated the information shared with them during the lecture and found it beneficial. The locals requested for organising more such work- shops in future. STATE TIMES NEWS HIRANAGAR: To sensitise and create awareness among people about the importance of trees the members of Satyam Foundation Trust under the leadership of former MLC Subash Gupta carried out plan- tation drive in Hiranagar on Friday. Large number of local youths including the team mem- bers participated in the planta- tion drive and planted 200 plants of various varieties including Arjun, Neem,Chinar,mango, Apple, Jamun, Aamla and Evergreen plants across Hiranagar Morh to Hiranagar town link road. Prominent members of Satyam Trust who participated in the plantation drive include Yugal kishore Bali, Devinder Singh Jasrotia, Swatantar Saroop Gupta Advocate, Tarsem Lal, Yash Pal Singh, Narinder Singh Rathore, Ruldoo Ram, Ramesh Kundal, Parveen Bhagat, Master Sangroo Ram, Narinder Pal Singh, Om Parkash and Vishal Sharma. While expressing his views Subash Gupta said that increasing number of industries, emerging concrete jungles, and automobiles are causing lot of pollution, which is resulting into global warming affecting vari- ous forms of life on the earth. He said that change in climate has resulted in change in the sea- sons. Storms, cyclones, cloud- burst etc are the result of the change in the climate. He appealed the representatives of Panchayats, religious and social organisations to aware the masses about this important issues for the safety and security of the coming generations. STATE TIMES NEWS NOWSHERA: Army organ- ised a summer educational camp spread over five days from July 14 - 19, 2018 for youth of villages adjoining Kalal, Nowshera to promote bonhomie and harmony among the students. The event consisted of activi- ties such as trekking, horse riding, treasure hunt, drawing and painting, yoga, tent pitch- ing, Infantry small arms dis- play, games, survival skill training and a talent show including debate competition, skit, songs, dance and play. Each activity of the summer camp was enthusiastically par- ticipated and enjoyed by the students belonging to the age group of 12-18 years. The plethora of events of summer camp gave the students a unique opportunity not only to enjoy the pristine nature and scenic beauty of Kalidhar Forest, but also kindled the spirit of adventure through events like horse riding, treas- ure hunt, tent pitching and survival skill training. The parents of these children were invited at the culmination of the summer camp. Children were felicitated for all events competitions at the closing cer- emony of the camp. The parents were filled with joy on seeing the happiness in the eyes of their children applauded the efforts of the army for the youth and the people. According to a source, during the intervening night of July 19/20 at Border Out Post Tanwer in Ramgarh sector of district Samba, 176 BN BSF troops saw some suspicious movement along IB, and fired two para light and few rounds with small weapons but no response was seen from the Pak side. According to a source,during the interveningnight of July 19/20 atBorder Out Post Tanwer inRamgarh sector of districtSamba, 176 BN BSFtroops saw some suspiciousmovement along IB, andfired two para light andfew rounds with smallweapons but no responsewas seen from the Pak side.Later the BSF troopssearched the whole area.

SAMBA: Residents of WardNo 9 and 10 Samba have notbeen provided with thedrinking water by the PHEauthorities for the last sevendays without sufficient rea-sons to do so.

The residents said that allof a sudden discontinuingthe supply of drinking waterto the people is in no way lessthan a criminal act where thepeople are left with no alter-native. The residents thoughapproached many times theconcerned JE and others,but they failed to supply thewater taking such com-plaints lightly.
