Sensess is a brand new collection from Northern Europe’s
leading leather furniture production company BD Möbel.
BD has grown from a small workshop in Western Finland
into an international furniture company. From the beginning,
BD has strived for perfect comfort - that unattainable something -
and has surely come close. Through developing seating mecha-
nisms that give the angles and supporting points for the back’s
neck and lumbar sections, they have maximized the ergonomically
correct sitting relief that leads to better quality of life.

Design vs ergonomics?
There is no point in wondering which of the senses, touch or sight, is the more important;
both are vital, especially when choosing a sofa or a chair. This means that both design and
ergonomics are equally important.
Design and ergonomics should never be considered as opposites. Just as immaterial is to
ask which of the senses, touch or sight, is more important; both are vital, especially when

Long experience is vital for choosing the best possible materials for the best pos-
sible chairs. BD has worked hard to find the finest suppliers of upholstery materials,
woods and metals. In addition, the mechanisms in BD products have been developed
to work holistically to enhance the functional ergonomics of the sitter. BD’s patents
are only used in their products and ensure the customer truly gets the most com-
fortable seating experience.

Individual production researched and tested.
A top-class chair is not a mass produced product; each chair is
manufactured to order combining traditional craftsmanship with
the latest technology using the best techniques, including high
precision CNC machining.
BD’s mechanisms are also tested against the highly demanding
public furniture standards using equipment from Möbellaborato-
riet in Norway.

For each seat a footrest rises automatically on contact.
The footrest is fully synchronized with the back section.

A tilt-glide mechanism distributes the sitter’s weight evenly and relaxes
the back. Tilt rotates the upper body’s centre of gravity from the lower back
to the centre of the back. Glide opens the sitting angle by up to 6 cm and
continues the work of tilt to transfer the centre of gravity to the whole back.
At the same time, the connective muscles stretch, pressure on the vertebrae
falls and the back relaxes.
The position of the neck cushion is synchronised with the sitting angle,
which allows the viewing angle to remain at the same height regardless of
the sitting angle. This function ensures the best posture for reading or watch-
ing tlelvision. Angle and height can also be adjusted manually,
even to a sleeping position.
Chair turns 360 degrees and returns to original position.
The neck and shoulder muscles remain relaxed, when the viewing angle
is always correct. The sitting direction always returns to its original position
to suit the look of the room.
Foot rest can be lifted up when desired. The legs remain relaxed
and don’t need to be stretched.
Tilt of the stool can be adjusted.
The legs receive optimum support and don’t need to be stretched.
If necessary, the stool can be used as a separate seat.
The position of the self-adjusting neck cushion continues to operate as
the situation demands, even if the sitting angle changes.
This function ensures the best posture for reading or watching television.
Height of the neck cushion can be adjusted manually.
For each seat a foot rest rises automatically on contact.
The foot rest is fully synchronised with the back section.
There is no need to stretch the legs, and the whole body relaxes.
The mechanisms used in BD products have been developed to work holistically to enhance the sitter’s functional ergonomics. Patenting the mechanisms in BD’s name has ensured that they are only used in products manufactured by BD.
