2. Senomozi Gallery
Pieces are presented in reverse chronological order of their creation date.
3. Dining Table
Massive dining table somewhat rustic in style yet refined in construction and finish.Features a 1 thick solid walnut top.Other elements are made out of red oak.The most original feature of this table is certainly the leg assemblies, whose horizontal members also serve as a portion of the top.30" high x 40" wide x 76" long. Extends to 94" long with a leaf (not shown). Finish is polymerized tung oil.
4. Top and Corner Close-ups
Horizontal and vertical members of the leg assembly are joined with a large bridal joint.
The glossy finish perfectly highlights the beautiful grain of the walnut top.
5. TV Credenza
This TV credenza features solid walnut and walnut burl veneer top with a curvy front edge, a design detail that is repeated in the base, legs and drawer handles. The drawer fronts and side panels are also made of solid walnut and walnut burl veneer. Drawer sides are attached to the front and back using dovetails. They ride on full extension ball bearing slides. 72" wide x 25" high x 23" deep. Finish is polymerized tung oil.
6. Corner Close-up
The 1 1/8 thick solid walnut that wrap the walnut burl veneer panels of the top are joined at the corner using a mitre joint.The lower edge of the top is treated with a bead detail.In addition to being curved along its length, the outer edge of the leg is also rounded over.
7. Pine Corner TV Stand
Solid pine corner TV stand loosely inspired from traditional French-Canadian cabinets. The six inch high open cavity provides ample room for AV equipment . Raised panel doors swing 180 degrees to allow easy access to the bottom compartment, which is fitted with an adjustable shelf. Bead detail around the face frame give the piece a more refined look. Finish is sprayed lacquer over two seal coats of orange shellac over aniline dye.
8. Base Close-up
Bead detail around the door opening is duplicated in the custom base moulding.
9. Small Writing Desk
White pine writing desk.48 wide x 18 deep x 30 high.Legs are taperedon their inside faces.Apron has a bead detail near its bottom edge.Finish is a satin water-based lacquer sprayed over a sealcoat of shellac over a custom mix of oil stains.
10. Drawer Close-up
Hand-cut half-blind dovetails connect the drawer sides to the drawer front.Drawer slides on hardwood runners.
11. Hockey Stick Rack
This is a traditional-formhockey stick rack custom built to house a 20-stick collection from the 2007 Ottawa Senators.Locking bars prevent unwanted removal of the sticks.Solid birch and birch veneer plywood construction. Finish is a brushed nitrocellulose lacquer over an oil stain. Solid brass rods polished and sprayed with an acrylic clear finish to prevent oxidation. Painting done by my wife Johanne.
12. Sideboard
Solid birch sideboard 56" W x 38" H x 18" D.Walnut bead detail around the door and drawer openings.Legs gently splay as they meet the floor.Raised panel sides and doors.Doors swing on knife hinges.Mortise and tenon construction throughout.Finish is polymerized tung oil (applied by the customer himself).
13. Door Joinery Close-Up
Door rails and stiles are slotted at their ends to accept a walnut spline.The large glue surface of this joint makes it strong and the use of a contrasting wood brings focus to the joint when the door is opened.
14. Craftsman Vanity and Mirror
Solid birch and birch veneer plywood vanity in the craftsman style. Top is made of granite countertop tiles. Drawers move on full-extension ball-bearing slides.Finish is brushed nitrocellulose lacquer over aniline dye and oil stain.
15. Craftsman Small Cabinet
Solid maple bath cabinet companion to the vanity previously featured.Bevel on the underside of the top provides the illusion of lightness.Door swings on knife hinges. Finish is brushed nitrocellulose lacquer over aniline dye and oil stain.
16. Cherry Coffee Table
Solid cherry coffee table in the Arts & Crafts style. The square holes in the top are echoed in the main stretcher below.Breadboard ends add both stability and visual interest.In keeping with the philosophy behind the Arts & Crafts this piece is built with 48 mortise and tenon joints, four of which are through tenons connecting the arched stretchers to the legs. Finish is a wipe on satin polyurethaneover a tinted Danish oil.Inspiration for this table came from a similar piece byKevin Rodel featured in Fine Woodworking magazine#178.
17. Breadboard End Close-Up
Breadboard end has five facets.Ebony plug has rounded edges and is housed in a shallow mortise.It protrudes slightly from the surface.
18. Oak Coffee Table
Quartersawn white oak coffee table in the Arts & Crafts style. Nearly identical to the cherry coffee table previously featured.Finish is a wipe-on satin polyurethane over aniline dye and oil stain.Inspiration for this table came from a similar piece byKevin Rodel featured in Fine Woodworking magazine#178.
19. Main Stretcher Close-Up
The main stretcher consists of three pieces connected near their center by six squares, each one featuring four very slight bevels.
20. BreadboadEnd Close-Up
Beveling theme for this table is carried to the ebony plugs, whose purpose is purely aesthetic.Each plug is shaped by hand and is housed in a shallow share mortise.The corbel is attached to the leg with a tongue and groove joint but it is not linked to the underside of the top even though it appears to be.It is purely decorative.
21. Oval Mirror
Solid red oak mirror made to match antique cabinet. Can you tell the difference between new and old?Finish is paste wax over aniline dye.
22. Built-In Bookcase
Solid birch and birch veneer plywood built-in bookcase. 96" H x 60" W. Custom mouldings throughout. Adjustable shelf pins holes fitted with brass sleeves for a refined look.Finish is brushed nitrocellulose lacquer over aniline dye.
23. Spade Feet Side Table
Solid maple side table.Unpretentious top with breadboard ends.The tiny pieces joining the upper and lower aprons are tenoned to fit into matching mortises in the aprons.Legs are tapered on their inside faces and end with a spade foot.Finish is brushed nitrocellulose lacquer over aniline dye.This table is heavily inspired from a piece by Hank Gilpin featured in Fine Woodworking magazine #171
24. Corner Cabinet
New England green pine corner cabinet.Custom top molding.Hand-cut through dovetails join the drawer sides to the drawer front and back.Finish is a urethane fortified latex paint. Door painting done by my wife Johanne.
25. Classic Oak Silverware Box
Classic red oak silverware box. Raised panel top and sides. Finish is a brushed gloss polyurethane over an oil stain.
26. Classic Oak Silverware BoxInside View
Top compartment houses single items while drawers hold a set of 16 utensils.Lining is black Suede-Tex.Drawer sides have stopped grooves allowing drawers to slide on hardwood runners.Drawer fronts are fitted with tiny solid brass knobs.
27. Light Oak Silverware Box
Red oak silverware box.The lids center panel consists of four boards joined with tongue and groove and V-groove detail.Coves along a short section of the underside of the breadboard ends serve as pulls.Sides are jointed at the corners with box joint.Finish is a brushed water-based polyurethane.
