approval Cannot drop a class to take it online once semester starts
COURSE DESCRIPTION GUIDE
If you wish to be a 7 semester grad, you need to meet with me to make sure you have the number of credits and classes required to do this. You will then select Mid-Year Grad on the top of your course selection sheet AND online 7 semester grads who plan on attending college during
spring of the 2014-2015 school year (so next January) need to fill out the FAFSA this year FAFSA deadline is March 10 www.fafsa.ed.gov
EARLY GRADUATION
English – 8 creditsMath – 6 credits
Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra IIScience – 6 credits
Biology I, Core 40 science, Chemistry or Physics or ICPSocial Studies – 6 credits
World History or Geography, US History, Government, EconPE – 2 creditsHealth – 1 creditElectives – 15 credits
CORE 40 = 44 TOTAL CREDITS
All Core 40 requirements, plus... 2 additional Advanced Math credits 6-8 World Language credits 2 Fine Arts credits One of the following:
AP courses resulting in 4 high school credits and corresponding AP exam(s)
Dual credit course(s) resulting in 6 college credits Combination of the two
i.e., AP course(s) resulting in 2 high school credits and corresponding AP exam(s) and dual credit course resulting in 3 college credits
1200 on SAT (reading and math) 26 or > composite on ACT
No grade lower than a C- Cumulative GPA 7.0 or higher
ACADEMIC HONORS = 47 TOTAL CREDITS
All Core 40 requirements, plus...Complete two of the following (one must be #1 or
#2):1) Score at certain levels on WorkKeys assessment2) Complete dual credit classes resulting in 6 college credits
in a technical area3) Complete 2 credits in an internship or cooperative
education course4) Complete industry-based work experience (ICE)5) Earn state-approved, industry-recognized certification
(typically from Anthis) No grade lower than a C- Cumulative GPA 7.0 or higher

English 12 Must choose 1 Lit (English Lit or Advanced
English/Language Arts/Honors) AND 1 Comp (Composition or Advanced Comp Honors) OR AP English Language & Composition The Honors classes can be dual credit (worth 3 college credits
each) Speech can count as one of the English 12 classes if you
are General diploma ONLY
Social Studies All students select Government or AP US Government Core 40 and Honors diplomas students must select
Economics or AP Microeconomics (General diploma does not need Econ) AOF students only can take Global Economics in place of

Science You can mix and match Chemistry, Physics, and ICP
For example, if you failed Chemistry-S1, you can take ICP-S1 senior year and still get a Core 40 (or Honors) diploma

Internship Application required/must be accepted Look @ course #s online carefully
1 period of internship a day – 5491/5492 You will have Travel 6th (221/222) and Internship 7th period
2 periods of internship a day – 5481/5482 You will have Travel 5th (201/202) and Internship 6th and 7th periods
If you were accepted into internship, then select Travel and Senior Internship on your course selection sheet & online
If you are applying, but have not yet been accepted, do NOT select Travel and Senior Internship – select electives and then circle the ones you would want to drop on your course selection sheet if you are accepted into the program

ICE Application required/must be accepted If accepted, select ICE Instruction (5421/5422) and ICE On-
The-Job Training (5431/5432) ICE Instruction is a 1 period a day class ICE On-The-Job Training is 2 periods a day, 6 th & 7th periods

YOU, the student, are responsible for contacting Ann Brown ([email protected]) to determine what class you would like to take and when it’s offered
One class at IPFW costs around $800 plus cost of college textbook (upwards of $120)

BYU Must pick up a form from me “Online Class Permission Form” must be signed by you AND parent
and dated and turned back in to me in Guidance office Must attach a confirmation receipt to your permission form when you
turn it in to prove you have actually registered for course EVERYONE IS SELECTING GOVERNMENT AND ECON HERE
AT CARROLL (ON YOUR COURSE SELECTION SHEET AND ONLINE) AND I WILL DROP THE COURSES FOR YOU ONCE I HAVE THE SIGNED/DATED PERMISSION FORM AND CONFIRMATION RECEIPT
YOU HAVE UNTIL MARCH 24 TO REGISTER FOR BYU CLASSES After that date, you are taking the class(es) at Carroll
All BYU final exams must be taken by November 20, 2014
ONLINE CLASSES
Choose these on course selection sheet only If you leave these blank and there is a scheduling conflict, I
will choose replacement classes for you
ALTERNATE COURSES
1. Log on to PowerSchool and select “Class Registration”
2. In each section (Eng, Soc Stud, Math, etc.) click on the yellow pencil in the top right of the box – courses for that section will appear
3. Select your classes, making sure that the #s on the screen align with the #s on your selection sheet
1. Pay attention to the bottom of the screen – there may be more than 1 page of classes in that section to choose from
4. Select “Okay” when you are finished with that section
5. Repeat Step 3 until you have selected all of your courses
6. Select “Submit.” You must have the required number of CREDITS selected, or you won’t be able to submit your choices
HOW TO REGISTER
Choose wisely and challenge yourself If you need to repeat classes because you failed
them, select them online AND on your course selection sheet Summer school forms are available and due Feb. 20
Alg I, Geom, Alg II, Eng 9, Eng 10, Eng 11, Eng 12, Gov, Econ, PE I, PE II, Health
You need to take the SAT and ACT at least once this school year if you’re applying to a four year college
Continue to make campus visits if you haven’t done so already
NOTES...
Your online selections AND course selection sheet is due by 2:55 Thursday, Feb. 13
Online window will open January 29 at 2:55
