A tea house and a pilates studio are the two busi-nesses proposed for the melrose square building. The tea house fits with the clientele proposed for the triangle building. It is a meditative space that can be used for a formal occasion as well as a place to study or meet with friends. The pilate studio is designed for the clients desire to teach classes as well as a business that compliments the meditative atmosphere of the tea house.

[concept]The concept for the melrose square derived from the montage images of bridges. The idea of com-pression and release is used throughout the spac-es as well as varying levels to mimic perspectives and rhythms that bridges capture. Circulation is also used between the varying levels to replicate the same role that the bridges of Seattle display.

I was inspired by the vast number of bridges withinthe city of Seattle. It was interesting to see the different perspectives and vistas surrounding the bridges and how much it altered a persons outlook depending on views. Underneath the bridges it was very concentrated on form and intimacy.

[montage elements]
Once on top of the bridges, the views altered dramatically. The vistas were layered and a much wider perspective was introduced. Theconcept of circulation also played an important role within the Seattle bridges.

[parti]
The parti represents the vertical lines seen in the montage bridge images. The positive and neg-ative space symbolizes the idea of compression and release that is further represented through-out the space with varying heights and levels.

[pilates studio]
The clients desire for a pilates studio will be closely related to the calm and reflective atmosphere of the tea house. Designing a space that is made for the overall wellness of indi-viduals will simplify the forms

[tea house]
Incorporating a tea house into the building will compliment the neighborhood profile as well as the pilates studio. It will add a reflective component to the capital hill area as well as promoting health within the body and mind.

[form inspiration] These inspirational forms were taken from various traditional tea houses as well as boxed forms that will be used as inspiration for the varying levels in my design. These forms cap-ture the concept of perspectives and layers which originated from the bridge montage. By combining the traditional ambiance of tea houses as well as playing with light and form will closely parallel the concept of perspec-tives, circulation, and form.

The second level replicates the feeling of re-lease. The inspiration for this space derived from the montage images from the views on top of the bridge. The intimate tea boxes create a formal space for private seating.
