    Background

    Ethiopia is Africas oldest independent country and also one of the poorest. Ethiopia is currently engaged in a highly

    ambitious effort to realign its education system in order to contribute more directly to its national strategy for economic

    growth and poverty reduction. Achievements over the past five years have been little short of extraordinary. The

    reforms have targeted all levels: the overall system, the institutions, and the academic programmes. Working with

    government institution Afar REB and Save the Children UK, the Senior programme manager will provide leadership and

    management of all education aspects of a nation-wide programme.

    What does the role involve?

    Overall leadership and management of Save the Children UK programme delivery in Afar, including managementof team of 20+ staff. Develop and manage strong internal systems for monitoring project performance

    Develop and maintain efficient and effective operational systems and ensure compliance with all Save theChildren Minimum Operating Standards, including safety & security management

    Oversee recruitment of key positions at field level and identify training needs Monitor progress against detailed activity and budget plans with technical teams ensuring that objectives and

    indicators are achieved

    Strong representation and coordination with key stakeholders.Skills, qualifications and experience required

    Prior programme management experience, ideally within fragile or conflict affected states Ideally a Masters Degree or equivalent in international development, education or a related subject; Experience building, leading and developing teams with different backgrounds and expertise; Proven experience delivering results based education or child rights programming; Experience managing programme logistics in complex operating environments; Experience managing procurement processes and competitive tenders; Experience in managing programmes in complex security settings; Demonstrated experience of developing effective working relationships with government and non-

    governmental organisations.

    Youll have frequent travel throughout Afar for management, support and monitoring and evaluation of programme
