Sandford Prize Blake Evans The greatest contribution to Boys' Cricket. Presented by the late Mr K L Sandford, husband of the late Airini Sergel, former Trustee and Fellow.
Andrew Grant Cup Tanay Mistry Most improved Senior Cricketer. Presented in 1978 by Andrew Grant, Dayboy 1973-78, Head of Winchester, Captain 1st XI 1978.
Matthew Driscoll Memorial Trophy Thomas Hickey For the best all round performer in the Colts’ Cricket XI. Presented in 1991 by the parents of the late Matthew Driscoll.
1st XI Girls' Cricket Prize Gemma Spice
The best all-round performer in the Girls' Cricket XI. First awarded 2004.
Lapwood Cup Thomas Purdie For the most valuable Cyclist. Presented in 2010 by the Lapwood family. Zoe Lapwood, 2003-2010.
Peterken Trophy Oliver Fleming Greatest Contribution to Cycling. Awarded to a member(s) of the Southwell School Cycling Team who has contributed time and effort in order to support both the team members and staff to achieve. Presented by the Peterken Family, Allegra Peterken 2002-2009.

Taylor Cup Natalie Carter
The greatest contribution to Softball. Donated in 1997 by Tim Taylor and family. Tim - Chairman of the Trust Board 1994-98, Old Boy (attended 1957-62) President of the OBA 1988-89, President of SSA 1990-92, Board Member 1987 - 2009, current Fellow. Three sons (Michael, Adrian and Scott) have attended Southwell. Tim together with his 4 brothers ensured a member of the Taylor family was continuously at Southwell for a total of 18 years (1954-1971).
Arroll Cup William Rushbrooke The greatest contribution to Water Polo. Presented in 2007 by the Petch Family.
Touch Prize Lachlan Ross The greatest contribution to Touch.
Bryant Cup Lachlan Ross
The greatest contribution to Rugby. Presented in 1998 by the Bryant family. Brothers Guy, Hamish and Richard attended Southwell from 1984-1990.
Gee Cup Boston Clark
Most improved Rugby Player. Presented by Geoffrey Gee 1960-64, Head Prefect, Captain 1st XV 1964.
Cho Cup Taylor Clarke The greatest contribution to Netball.
Judkins Trophy Kaedan Govender The winner of the School Chess Tournament.
Dix Cup Natalie Carter
The most outstanding Hockey player of the year. Presented in 2002 by Mike Dix, Teacher 1987-2010 and coach of many Southwell Hockey XI’s.
Brasting Cup Iona Martynoga & Thomas Priest The greatest contribution to Hockey. Presented in 1975 by David Brasting 1973-75.
Waikato Hockey Association Trophy Zac Kovaleski
The greatest contribution to Hockey in Year 6. Presented in 2007 by the Waikato Hockey Association.
Bloomfield Cup Fabio Dente The most outstanding Football player of the year. Presented in 1976 by Wayne Bloomfield, 1974-75. Captain 1st XI 1975.
Henzell Cup Sam Forward
The greatest contribution to Football. Presented in 1991 by Matthew Henzell 1987-88, and Nicholas 1989-90.
1st XI Girls' Football Prize Amelia Mallett The greatest contribution to Girls' Football.
Richards Cup Mandla Mudzamiri
For the best all round performer in the Colts’ Football XI. Presented in 2014 by the Richards Family. Brothers Jayden, Kieran and Ethan attended from 2010 - 2016.
Rogers Trophy Madeleine Waddell
Best Athletic performance over the year. Donated in 1997 by Tony Rogers, teacher 1990-97 and Olympic athlete, Los Angeles 1984.

Major Gay Cup Tobias Te Ua General Excellence in Year 5. Presented in 1999 by the late Major Gay, former Teacher and Fellow.
Junior Science Trophy Mandla Mudzamiri Awarded to a student in Year 5 or 6 who has demonstrated passion, wonderment or curiosity in Science. Presented to Southwell on 26 June 2009 by Guy and Claire Velzian.
Armstrong Award Sam Basel To a senior student in the Language Extension programme who makes the greatest effort to improve his/her language skills provided that he or she is not in receipt of any other award at the prize giving. The ideals of the school must be apparent in his/her attitude and conduct. Award endowed in 1984 by the Armstrong family – four sons attended.
Morris Award Kenta Grenfell
To a Year 5 or 6 student in the Language Extension programme who makes the greatest effort to improve his/her language skills. Award endowed in 1996 by Barbara Morris, teacher 1983-96.
Munden Cup Thomas Purdie To a student in the Learning Support area of the School for Personal and Social Development. Presented by the Munden family, first awarded in 2007.

For the Year 8 student or students who during his/her time at Southwell has demonstrated a caring attitude and practical approach to maintaining our School Environment.
The Bryant Trophy Jackson Alcock For the Year 8 student who exhibits the Southwell Spirit beyond the classroom. First awarded in 2017 by Mr Andy Bryant, Old Boy 1954 - 1958.
Broderick Cup Ben Edwards
For the student who is keenest in Current Affairs. Given by Mrs Broderick in 1946, son R L Broderick 1944-46. First awarded 1946.
Dearlove Prize Joel Nicholson
To be competed for each year by members of the senior school. The examination is to be set on the whole Bible and not on any set books. Endowed Prize by the Dearlove family of Matamata.

Carlton-Thomas Prize Aditya Manda & Kyra-Mae Wilson Awarded to a Year 7 student who consistently attains excellence in both classroom drama and extra curricular dramatic performances. First awarded in 2011. Alexander Carlton-Thomas, 2003-2010.
Prosser Cup & Prize Rosie Willson & Arnah Currie For excellence in drama in the annual opera. Endowed by Mr P J Prosser, a former staff member 1966-71 and sons C and N Prosser 1969.
Southwell Players Award Harper Mills & William Cross For an outstanding performance in a character role in the annual opera.
Spirit of the Arts Award Thomas Priest Awarded to a student for an outstanding contribution to the Performing Arts whilst demonstrating commitment, dedication, passion and service to others. First awarded in 2018 by the Kansal Family (Aashima 2011, Saniya 2015-2016, Samay 2015-2019)
Parkes Memorial Cup Sinali Kuruppuge
For sportsmanship and active participation in the school opera or who in the opinion of the Producers shows real ability of true sense of service and unselfishness. Presented to the school by Mrs M F Parkes in memory of her husband R R K Parkes, Old Boy 1934-36 and teacher, who was a great lover of music and the Gilbert and Sullivan Operas. (Reintroduced 1995).
Southwell String Trophy Ray Zhang Awarded to a Junior string player (Year 5 or 6 student) who consistently shows good musicianship, commitment and contributed to school music. First awarded in 2017 and presented by the Chanwai-Wong family. Victoria Chanwai (2011-2013) and Matthew Chanwai (2011-2018)
Southwell Wind Trophy Elsa Xu Awarded to a Junior Wind player (Year 5 or 6 student) who consistently shows good musicianship, commitment and contribution to school music. First awarded in 2017.
Kingi Teheitia Award Turongo Tamaki & Millie Whetu Awarded for demonstrating Leadership for Kapa Haka. First presented in 2018 by the Tiffany Family (Xavier 2008-2016, Kristian 2010-2018, Phoenyx 2014- )
Newcombe Cup Toby Whytock Awarded to a Junior member of the Senior Choir. Presented in 1946 by an Old Boy Newcombe. Re-introduced in 1995.
Jordan Cup Leon Wu Choir leadership (Boy). Presented by Mr C Llewellyn Jordan in 1944.
Joan Cumming Cup Charlotte Tam
Choir leadership (Girl). Presented in 2000 by the late Mrs J S Cumming (formerly Miss Joan Sergel).
Holmes Cup & Prize Benjamin Lou
General musical proficiency with special reference to Chapel Choir singing. Presented in 1968 by Glenn Holmes 1964-67, Head Chorister, Head Prefect 1967, Board Member 1993 - 2008, current Fellow.
Mrs Richard Seddon Cup Juliette Neil
General service to the senior school orchestra. Presented in 1972 by Mrs Seddon, violinist with NZSO, sons Richard 1970-72 and Michael 1974-75.
Burgess Family Cup Harper Mills Awarded to the musician who contributes most to ensemble playing in the school. Presented by the Burgess family, Geoff (Headmaster 1989-93), sons Michael (Head Prefect 1992) and Richard.
Martin Upton Cup Roy Zhu & Leon Wu
All round musical ability, contributed to school music and passed external examinations. Presented in 1968 by the late Martin Upton 1963-65.
Annette Faulkner Memorial Prize Kyra-Mae Wilson &
Amirdha Kanchi For an outstanding musical performance. Presented by Mr Ralph Faulkner, Old Boy 1950-53, Board Chairman 1990-94 and current Fellow, in memory of his late wife.

Awarded to the Year 8 student who has made the greatest contribution to ICT. The student who has provided service in the area of ICT as well as shown exemplary outcomes and innovation in their use of ICT.

Charles Dobson Memorial Cup Iona Martynoga
Awarded to a student in Year 7 or 8 for excellence, especially creativity, in English. Presented by the Dobson family in 2000 in memory of their son, Charles Dobson who attended Southwell 1996-1998. Charles was well known for his ability in English and his fine sense of humour.
Haskell Cup & West Prize Leon Lee For Excellence in Mathematics. Cup presented in 2010 by former student Hayley Haskell (2002-2009), UNSW ICAS medal winner (Mathematics) 2006, 2007 and 2008. Prize endowed by Mr West in 1977.
MacKay Cup & Moorhouse Prize Oliver Fleming To the student who is most interested in Science or Natural History. Presented by Dr MacKay, first awarded to P Ray 1930, endowed by Mr R B Moorhouse, Old Boy 1918.
Special Prizes
Cato Cup & Prize Amirdha Kanchi For excellence in French Language. Presented in 1980 by Mrs Cato and her three sons who attended Southwell as follows - Paul 1970-72, Michael 1975-78, Peter 1977-80. In memory of her late husband Trevor, an Old Boy 1940-43.
Brabazon Cup Greta Darke
Awarded to the best all-round Boarder who displays selflessness and consistency.
Stembridge Cup "Just Do It" Daniel Alcock
Awarded to the Year 8 Boarder who consistently follows Boarding House routines. First presented in 2017 by Mr & Mrs Stembridge. Mr Stembridge, Former Deputy Headmaster and Former Head of Boarding.
Bernstein Cup & Prize Annemijn van der Heijde
Awarded to a student in Year 6 who is most industrious and is neat and punctual and upholds the best interests of the school. Presented by Dr Alfred Bernstein, son A Bernstein Old Boy 1928-33, M Bernstein 1933–July 1934. First awarded in 1928.
The Spirit Cup Charlotte Willoughby Awarded to a long serving student - someone who has been at Southwell from the Junior School and been a star that has gone under the radar but epitomises true Southwell spirit. First awarded in 2017 and donated by the Appanna- Naidoo Family, Suvarn Naidoo (2004-2011) and Tanika Naidoo (2008 - 2016).
Jackson Cup Tejveer Randhawa & Cici Guo Awarded to a student of any age who shows diligence in all areas. Presented by the Jackson family in 1998. Peter (Father and current Fellow) 1955-58, Samuel 1984-86, Thomas 1986-88, William 1990-93, and James 1994-97. The family has been associated with Southwell since 1955.
Cushman Cup Sinali Kuruppuge To a student, of any age, who has shown the keenest sense of service to the school as a community. Presented in 1962 by twins Brett and Grant Cushman 1958-61.
Peter Harris Prize Ashleigh Darby
Awarded to a senior student who shows ability and understanding in looking after junior students (particularly boarders), and shows general school spirit. Presented by Peter Harris 1965-68, Head Prefect 1968.
Charles P Hutchinson Memorial Cup William Cross Awarded to a student of any age who shows knowledge, wisdom and humour. First presented in 1997 in memory of C P Hutchinson, MBE, QSO, QC, LLB. A man of knowledge wisdom, and humour, captured as a prisoner of war in 1941. He received the MBE with a unique citation: “His untiring efforts in lifting the morale of his fellow prisoner”. First Warden of the Fellows. Co-author of the Trust Deed 1963.
Marshall Cup Hannah Macdonald Headmaster’s Award - Awarded to a senior student for service, example and involvement in the life of the school. Presented by the late Moss Marshall, former Teacher 1953-59 and 1968-71, Headmaster 1972-88, and Fellow.
Fitchett Cup & Medallion Lachlan Ross
Awarded to a boy who shows outstanding ability on the field has necessary qualities of sportsmanship and service to sport – Sportsman of the Year. Presented by the three Fitchett brothers, Peter 1953-58, Michael 1954-59, James 1959-65. The Silver Cup was purchased by Dr Fitchett in Isfahan.
Ann Day Cup & Medallion Madeleine Waddell
Awarded to a girl who shows outstanding ability on the field has the necessary qualities of sportsmanship and service to sport - Sportswoman of the Year. Presented in 2000 by Mrs Ann Day, current Fellow.
Headmaster’s Special Prize Conor McCormack Conor is an exceptional communicator who skilfully shares his passion for knowledge and special causes that are close to his heart.
Headmaster’s Special Prize Sam Edwards Sam is a delightful young man who exudes enthusiasm for life. He gives 100% to all aspects of school life.
Headmaster’s Special Prize Natalie Carter Natalie strives to be her best self in all that she does. A truly committed and creative learner, who demonstrates integrity.

Spencer Rutherfurd Memorial Prize Madeleine Waddell &
Roy Zhu Awarded to one or more students each year who have upheld the best traditions of the school in the field of sport, in the classroom and in general behaviour. Started in 1922, endowed prize in memory of Spencer Rutherfurd who served in the RAF in World War I and lost his life in Mesopotamia.

Service to Southwell Cayla Engelbrecht
Deputy Head Girl.
Barron Cooper Memorial Prize Roy Zhu Awarded to the Head Boy for his leadership and good influence. Endowed by this Old Boy’s father in memory of Barron Cooper who was an outstanding Head Prefect in 1936. He was killed in Italy in 1945 whilst serving in the RAF.
Irene Sergel Prize Madeleine Waddell Awarded to the Head Girl for her leadership and good influence. Endowed by the late Mrs Irene Sergel, formerly Miss Irene Hawkins, daughter of Mr H S Hawkins who was the first Chairman of the Board in 1917. Miss Hawkins married the late Reverend P C S Sergel in 1946.
King Memorial Shield Lincoln House First awarded in 1939 for inter-house sport competition between the Houses of the school. Donated by Mrs C.S King in memory of Milton Wylie King who died in January 1939, aged 11.

Thomas Hitchings Memorial Prize Troy Poole
Awarded to the Junior Dux. In memory of an Old Boy Thomas Hitchings 1924-25 who lost his life in World War II whilst serving with 2nd NZEF. Endowed by his twin sister Mrs M Grant.
Beveridge Cup & Prize Iona Martynoga Awarded to Dux Runner-up. Presented in 1979 by the Beveridge family. Father, Tony 1935-39 and sons William 1968-70, John 1972-73, James 1974-75, Tim 1978-79 attended the School.

Awarded to Dux. Presented by the Old Boys’ Association 1995.
