Senior passes French certification test
Su Bin Lim of Gr. 12 - General Academic Strand passed the DELF (Diplôme d’Etudes en
Langue Française) A1 Test she took last October 2016. The DELF Exam is the official
certification awarded by the French Ministry of Education to validate the competency of
candidates from outside France in the French language. It corresponds to the Common
European Framework of References for Languages (CEFRL).
The test includes all the four macro skills: Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening. In
the Reading Comprehension Test, Lim was given thirty minutes to read five short texts
dealing with various situations from everyday life, and answer questions to test her com-
prehension. In the Writing Skills Test, she had another thirty minutes to fill out a form and
write about daily life in a correspondence. Su Bin Lim
In the Listening Comprehension Test, Lim had twenty minutes to listen to short recordings dealing with everyday situa-
tions and then answered questions to test her understanding. In the Speaking Skills Test, she participated in a direct
interview, information exchange, and simulated dialogue with the examiner for fifteen minutes.
Su Bin Lim’s certification by the French government is the fruit of her Going the Extra Mile (GEM) Project in Senior High
School where everyone is encouraged to display her growth mindset by improving one’s self through persistence, effort
and focus on learning.
IB CAS students visit local Muslim school A group of SISC International Baccalaureate (IB) students
paid a visit to an Islamic school as part of their Creativity,
Activity, Service (CAS) commitment. IB student Hyun Soo
Lim described his experience dropping by a school focused
on religious study of Islam.
Last Saturday, 19th November, we visited Sultan Esmael
School in Dasmariñas, Cavite. The purpose was to donate
books, dolls, and soft toys. We met students at the school
and the Principal made us feel very welcomed! The children
sang to us in Arabic, and were very happy for the gifts!
We had an opportunity to visit the Madrasa School and the
mosque, and had a tour of the barangay. We then met a
senior scholar and went off to a Korean restaurant for lunch.
We had the unique experience to visit a different culture very
near Manila. It was an unforgettable experience! Mr. Wraith and his IB Students give early Christmas
cheers to our Muslim brothers and sisters.

Donate a toy or book and get a
chance to win a class prize Students are encouraged to brighten a less privileged child’s holiday season by donating new
or used toys and books to the SISC-Jollibee “Maaga ang Pasko” Toy and Book Drive. In part-
nership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the Department of Educa-
tion, and the Jollibee Group Foundation, SISC is collecting toys and books which will be dis-
tributed to local children who otherwise may not have any presents to open this Christmas.
Students are called upon to bring toys and books and give them to their respective advisers.
The deadline for donations is on December 9, 2016. The class with the highest number of
donations per campus will be given a prize.
Every donation counts!

Raising a teen
who cares
about others
As a parent, you want to see your child
act with compassion and show empathy
to others. Teaching compassion and em-
pathy to children can start when children
are very young. However, if you haven’t
discussed these ideas and values with
your children until the teen years, it’s not
too late. Here are tips on how to still make
your teen a compassionate and empa-
thetic individual:
1. Provide scenarios. One of the most
effective ways to show your teen the
value of compassion and empathy is
to provide real-life scenarios that they
can identify with. Ask your child about
a friend who is going through a diffi-
cult time, such as a parent’s divorce
or a family member facing a serious
illness. While discussing these
events, ask your child how she thinks
her friend feels. Prompt your teen to
use specific words to describe the
feelings and then work together to
determine compassionate and empa-
thetic responses.
2. Turn the tables. It is likely that par-
ents and teens will have disagree-
ments. Once the issue has been re-
solved, ask your teen to guess how
you were feeling during the tangle.
Then, as the parent, guess how your
teen was feeling during the disagree-
ment. Once you both have shared
your thoughts, reveal to one another
how you were actually feeling to pro-
vide more compassion and empathy
to your relationship.
3. Role model behavior. A teen may
not know how to exhibit compassion
and empathy if the behavior has not been modeled. Role model the behavior to provide real examples of acts of compassion and feelings of empathy. If you’ve done some-thing to hurt your teen’s feelings, apologize for it and specifically say “I’m sorry” and iden-tify what you’re apologizing for. (http://

Class Standing
Notices
released SISC provides parents and guardians
with the Class Standing Notice of their
children or wards for them to monitor
their children or wards’ academic stand-
ing and progress within the term. Gener-
ally speaking, a student’s class standing
is based on his or her performance in
quizzes, long tests, homeworks, seat-
works, recitations, projects, and the like.
The term exam score is not yet included.
The Class Standing Notice for the Sec-
ond Term of Academic Year 2016 - 2017
was released this week. After receiving a
copy, please fill out and return the reply
slip on
or before November 28, 2016. Parents or
guardians of students and wards who are
not meeting standards must request for a
conference with the teacher so that the
deficient areas could be addressed as
early as possible.
The Class Standing Notice serves as
advance parental notice on the child’s
commitment and ability to take responsi-
bility for his or her own learning. SISC
believes that clear communication with
parents is essential to develop the part-
nership between the home and school to
ensure student success.
