For this summer and next winter Mount Sunapee is adding more energy-efficient snow guns to its snowmaking arsenal, totally refurbishing the Spruce Lodge Café scramble and seating areas and has added the Evolution Bike Park to the summer Adventure Park. The Evolution Bike Park, offering lift serviced downhill mountain biking, was added as a new activity to the Adventure Park.

The bike park opened this summer with one mile-long family-friendly trail from the summit of South Peak.

Three more trails are under construction this summer including a more difficult trail opening in early July and two most difficult trails scheduled to open in August and September. There will be almost four miles of trails open by fall.

Trail passes, full-suspension Specialized® bike rentals and introductory packages including a clinic, bike rental and trail pass are offered.

The Adventure Park, opened in 2012, has become one of the biggest summer attractions in the Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee region.

Mount Sunapee is purchasing another 33 SV-10 snow guns bringing the total inventory of these energy-efficient snow guns to 190. These guns make twice as much snow as older style snow guns with only one quarter of the compressed air. Mount Sunapee has averaged a top three ranking in the East over the past ten years for snow quality and grooming in the annual SKI

Most people assume they only need to take their medication when they are sick, meaning when they experience symptoms. But in the case of hypertension, this type of thinking could kill you. Patients who have hypertension are often completely asymptomatic - that's the reason hypertension is often called the silent killer.

The belief that symptoms such as headaches, nose bleeds, nervousness, sweating, difficulty sleeping or facial flushing are signals to take blood pressure medication is a myth. Nonadherence to hypertension medication is a huge challenge. Research shows that one in three American adults suffer from high blood pressure, but only 47 percent effectively treat their disease to keep blood pressure levels under control.

Higher risk for heart attack, strokeExpress Scripts' specialist pharmacist Ed Dannemiller recently

spoke with a patient who was 40 days late to refill her blood pressure prescription. "When I asked her about the delay, she said she only takes her medication when she feels stressed or has a headache. The problem with this is that patients with hypertension may feel perfectly fine before suffering a heart attack or stroke," says Dannemiller. Normal blood pressure is less than 120/80, but consistent levels above 140/90 require medical attention. Simply keeping a patient's blood pressure under control decreases the risk of heart attack by 25 percent, stroke by 33 percent and heart failure by 50 percent. But the only way to have a precise measurement is through a blood pressure reading.

Become an engaged patient"I encourage patients to become engaged in their own health and

keep track of their blood pressure readings, which can help prevent unnecessary hospitalizations or ER visits," Dannemiller explains. For patients with white-coat hypertension - those whose blood pressure rises from stress in the doctor's office - a home blood pressure monitor is a good option.

Dannemiller offers these useful tips for patients monitoring their pressure at home:

* Take blood pressure readings in a seated position with arm at the heart level

* To regulate the monitor, discard the first reading * Keep a record of your blood pressure levels to bring to your

doctor's appointmentThis additional data will help your physician better understand

your condition and make better medical decisions to ensure healthier outcomes.

Lifestyle changes can helpIn addition to staying adherent to blood pressure medication,

regardless of symptoms, the following lifestyle modifications also can improve cardiovascular health:

* Consume a heart-healthy diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables and low in salt, fat and cholesterol

* Engage in regular aerobic physical activity * Manage your weight, limit alcohol consumption, do not smokeValue of specialized understanding"Even with lifestyle modifications, most patients need at least two

medications to reach their blood pressure goal," says Dannemiller. For more information, visit lab.express-scripts.com. (BPT)

Whoever said, "If you have your health, you have everything," must have been retired. That's because retirees feel more financially secure when they're in good health according to new research. And when they feel financially secure, retirees also report they're enjoying retirement more, they feel fulfilled and are less likely to experience negative emotions. The study, Health, Wealth and Happiness in Retirement (www.massmutual.com/healthwealth) is part of a larger research project conducted on behalf of MassMutual by Greenwald & Associates. The research split 905 retirees with at least $50,000 in assets into two subgroups: those who characterized their health as excellent or very good and those who characterized their health as good or poor.

"The message for both retirees and pre-retirees is that health has a major impact on satisfaction with life in retirement," says Elaine Sarsynski, executive vice president of MassMutual Retirement Services. "We need to focus on our health as much as possible so we can enjoy life to the fullest extent in our later years. While none of us can predict how healthy we will be in the future, we can help influence the outcome by making lifestyle choices that promote good health."

Seven out of 10 retirees in better health say they feel financially secure compared to 51 percent of retirees in poorer health, the study found. Retirees in poorer health were twice as likely to feel anxious about their finances and lack a sense of purpose, and three times more likely to feel lonely, the research found. Also, four in 10 retirees overall say they spend more on health care than they expected before retiring, with 43 percent spending more than $5,000 annually and 14 percent spending more than $10,000.

If you're in retirement, or looking forward to retirement, maintaining a healthy lifestyle should be a goal to help you better enjoy your retirement years. An earlier study conducted by MassMutual and Greenwald & Associates, Hopes, Fears and Reality - What Workers Expect in Retirement and What Steps Help Them Achieve the Retirement They Want (www.massmutual.com/retire), found that nearly half of all retirees retired sooner than they anticipated. This may mean that they are retiring at a younger age, and looking forward to enjoying their retirement years as much as possible.

Studies show that good health allows retirees to get out and enjoy life. Playing golf or tennis, spending the afternoon on a boat, or meeting with friends and family for lunch or dinner are all enjoyable activities retirees may have time to do. However, when a person falls ill, they may not be able to get out and enjoy the retired life as much as someone who is healthy.

"Our study focused on people in the first 15 years of retirement," says Mathew Greenwald, president of Greenwald & Associates. "In many cases, serious medical issues arise after that, in older age. But even in the healthiest part of retirement, better health clearly has an impact on most people's ability to fully enjoy retirement. Many of these issues will only be exacerbated for retirees as they age, which puts an exclamation point on the importance of wellness." (BPT)

What's retirement like? The answer may depend upon whether you're a man or a woman. Women report more positive experiences in retirement than men, yet also say they are more likely to experience negative emotions, especially stress,

according to a study conducted by MassMutual. The study's findings have implications for retirement planning, both financially and emotionally.

"Women often experience high levels of stress before retirement as they juggle both professional and family responsibilities," says Elaine Sarsynski, executive vice president of MassMutual Retirement Services. "We are learning that the stress women feel often carries over into retirement, but we're also hearing that women often make more of their retirement opportunities and experiences than men."

The study surveyed 905 retirees within 15 years after retirement and 912 pre-retirees within 15 years before retirement. The responses for both groups were evenly split between men and women and respondents had a minimum of $50,000 in retirement savings. One in five women (20 percent) is at least moderately stressed in retirement compared to 15 percent of men, the study finds. Women also are more likely to feel frustrated, sad, lonely and nervous.

Before retirement, women are much more likely than men to report being stressed. The study finds that 49 percent of women pre-retirees say they are at least moderately stressed compared to 38 percent of men pre-retirees.

Though whether you are a man or a woman, saving for retirement contributes to positive emotions and experiences in retirement. Those who have a 401(k) or other retirement savings plan were more likely to report experiencing positive emotions as compared to those who did not.

Of the retirement plan participants, 74 percent say they are "extremely" or "quite a bit" happy compared to 68 percent who did not participate in a retirement plan and 70 percent of retirement plan participants say they are "extremely" or "quite a bit" relaxed compared to 61 percent who did not have a plan.

"Overall, positive emotions for both men and women tend to increase and negative emotions tend to decrease in retirement," says Mathew Greenwald, president of Greenwald & Associates, whose firm conducted the study on behalf of MassMutual. "People also tend to exaggerate expectations for retirement, especially women, partly because it's difficult for many people to envision what life in retirement will actually be like."

In the years before retirement, women have markedly higher expectations than men for enjoying the social aspects of retirement and somewhat lower expectations for their financial fortunes. During retirement, women report having less free time than men and yet are more likely to have new experiences, find more time for friends, and enjoy more opportunities. Men's expectations tend to be more in line with their eventual experiences, which are typically less fulfilling than women, according to the study.

Sarsynski recommends that pre-retirees take steps to help themselves gain a more concrete understanding of what their lives may be like once they retire. (BPT)

Summertime allows you to spend more time outside in the sun, enjoying breezy days and a vacation state of mind. But before you get caught up reveling in all that nice weather, it's important to keep your furry friends in mind. For curious pets, warm temperatures and increased outdoor time can be a recipe for trouble.

Maintaining a pet-friendly lifestyle and home in the summer doesn't have to be expensive or time consuming. With a few simple tricks and tips, you can ensure your pet will thrive during the sunny summer months.

Your dog or cat is always there for you, now it's time to do them a favor. Keep these tips from D&D Technologies, an award-winning lock and safety company, in mind for a happy and healthy pet: Keep head and paws inside the car.

Driving down the road, you might see sev-eral cars with paws and heads sticking out the window. While most dogs love to feel the wind in their fur, it can seriously aggravate the mucous membranes and blow dust and dirt in their eyes. When your dog's tongue is flying in the breeze, insects or other debris can enter nasal passages or the windpipe,

possibly causing an emergency trip to the vet and even permanent damage. Check your pet's collar regularly.

For growing pups and kittens, be sure to monitor how quickly they grow. Check their collars at least once a week for the first year, or until they are fully grown. Not only does a too-tight collar cause excruciating pain, but it can literally grow right into your pet's neck. To be safe, you should be able to easily fit two or three fingers between the neck and collar. Keep your yard safe. If you like to let

your pets roam in your yard, make sure you take the right safety precautions. You don't need an expensive electric fence to keep your pets protected. For fenced-in yards,

use the latest technology in gate latches such as the MagnaLatch Alert Veritcal Pull. This easy-to-install latch cannot be opened by dogs and ensures your pup won't be able to get out and lost on the street. Additionally, if the gate is left opened, the latch sounds an alarm to let you know your pets might escape. Monitor time spent outside. Dogs are

more likely to escape when they've been left alone for a long period of time, especially breeds that enjoy being active. Don't leave your pet unattended for an extended period of time and make sure to check on him or her frequently. Limit exercise on hot days. While you

might love taking your dog for a jog on a warm day, be extra careful on warmer days. Adjust the intensity and time of exercise for your pet according to the temperature. Asphalt soaks in the beating sun and can burn your pet's paws, so walk on the grass if possible. On especially hot days, try to exercise during the morning or evening hours, especially for pets with white-colored ears, who are more prone to skin cancer, and short-nosed pets who will have more difficulty breathing. The Society for the Protection of N.H. Forests (Forest Society) and N.H. State Parks are hosting the 10th Annual Monadnock Trails Week from July 17 to July 21. Volunteers are invited to join conservation professionals and trail maintainers to help restore degraded hiking trails on Mount Monadnock during the five-day event.

“We are really excited about the tenth anniversary of Monadnock Trails Week,” said Forest Society Land Steward Specialist Carrie Deegan, who organizes the event. “This event has been powered by volunteers for an entire decade, and those volunteers have done an incredible amount of work on Mount Monadnock’s trails. Trails week is a great opportunity to learn about trail construction and maintenance, and to give back to a mountain that has provided so much enjoyment for New Hampshire residents and visitors over the years.”

No prior trail work experience is required to volunteer, but those under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or adult supervisor. The heavy-duty trail work completed during trails week is not

recommended for those under 13. This year’s projects include

constructing new stone stairs on the Pumpelly Trail, upgrading erosion control areas on the White Dot Trail, and adding footbridges and drainage on the Gilson Pond Loop and Birchtoft Trail. Volunteers

are welcome to participate for one day or several, and complimentary camping is available for volunteers at the Monadnock State Park campground.

Mount Monadnock is one of the most-climbed mountains in the western hemisphere. In 1915, the Forest Society conserved its first tract of 406 acres on Mount Monadnock, beginning a long-term effort to protect the natural integrity of the mountain and its surroundings. Since then, the Forest Society has acquired more than 4,000 acres at Mount Monadnock and Gap Mountain in the towns of Dublin, Marlborough, Troy and Jaffrey. The Forest Society leases much of this land to the State to be operated as Mount Monadnock State Park.

Founded in 1901, the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests is the state’s oldest and largest non-profit land conservation organization. Supported by 10,000 families and businesses, the Forest Society’s mission is to perpetuate the state’s forests by promoting land conservation and sustainable forestry. For more information, visit forestsociety.org.

Americans may have faith in the Social Security system, but many still don't really understand how it

works. That's a key take-away from a recent survey of Americans' knowledge of Social Security retirement benefits. While 63 percent of respondents said they do believe Social Security benefits will be available to them when they retire, many were confused about who qualifies for benefits, how much they'll be eligible to receive, and when they can start drawing benefits without penalty.

The survey, by Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, included a true/false quiz about Social Security facts. Just 28 percent of those surveyed scored a passing grade, and only one person out of the 1,500 polled was able to answer all survey questions correctly. The survey results illustrated a significant lack of knowledge about Social Security, including: Although 75 percent of those surveyed

thought being an American citizen is a requirement to receive Social Security re-tirement benefits, this is not the case. Non-

citizens lawfully living in the U.S., and who have permission to work here, can obtain a Social Security number, pay into the Social Security system and draw benefits. More than seven in 10 respondents

mistakenly thought that 65 is the age when everyone can begin drawing full retirement benefits. Actually, your full retirement age depends on what year you were born. Fifty-five percent of those surveyed

incorrectly believed they could continue working during retirement while collecting full Social Security benefits, regardless of their age. If you work during retirement, but have not yet reached your full retirement age, your Social Security benefits may be re-duced if you earn too much. Once you reach full retirement age, those withheld benefits will be repaid over your lifetime.

Still, some good news emerged from the survey. Americans seem aware that Social Security should be only one component of their overall retirement savings plan. Just 39 percent said they expected to rely more on Social Security than their personal savings or income during retirement, and just 15 percent expected to rely solely on Social Security.

Here are some Social Security facts to help improve your knowledge: No single filing strategy works for

everyone filing for Social Security benefits; there are just too many variables. For example, a married couple may have hun-dreds of options for filing for Social Security retirement benefits. Americans are living longer. It's no

longer sufficient to plan for just 10 years of retirement. You may well need savings and income to carry you for three decades or longer. While Social Security can be an

important component of your retirement plan, you need to have other income as well. Under- or over-valuing your Social Security retirement benefits could keep you from getting a true picture of your retirement sav-ings plans. A qualified financial professional can better help you understand how Social Security fits into your personal situation.

For additional information on saving for retirement and Social Security benefits, visit MassMutual.com/SocialSecurity or the Social Security Administration. (BPT)

The Citizens Bank Foundation donated a brand new, 26-foot box truck recently to the New Hampshire Food Bank, a program of Catholic Charities NH, at a special event concluding the Nothing campaign at Food Bank headquarters in Manchester. Along with receiving the heavy duty, refrigerated truck, which will have a profound impact on the Food Bank’s statewide food distribution capabilities, the NH Food Bank announced at the event that this year’s Nothing cam-paign raised more than $86,261 to date to support the one in nine New Hampshire residents who do not know where their next meal is coming from.

The Citizens Bank Foundation was the sole underwriter of this year’s Nothing campaign, a groundbreaking, month-long effort to raise awareness and critical funds to support the more than 143,200 New Hampshire residents—including more than 42,170 children—who have nothing to eat.

The new heavy-duty, refrigerated truck, which will be able to transport more than 10,000 pounds of food at a time, will have a significant impact on the Food Bank’s statewide distribution. With this new truck, the NH Food Bank will save considerable

money on repairs and operations. The NH Food Bank, which does not receive any state or federal funding, currently has a fleet of four distribution vehicles that supply

millions of pounds of food annually to more than 400 partner agencies, including food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters.

“Our partnership with the New Hampshire Food Bank is important to us because it allows us to have a direct impact on the community,” said Joe Carelli. “We are happy to continue this support with the unveiling of the new food truck, which will enable the Food Bank to meet its demand to distribute tens of thousands of pounds of food to people in need of hunger relief.”

Throughout May, cans of “nothing” were sold statewide for $5 at 68 participating grocers, including all New Hampshire Hannaford, Harvest Market, and Market Basket locations, as well as Sully’s Superette in Goffstown and Allenstown and Vista Foods in Laconia. Cans, which serve as a bank for collecting donations, represent the reality that thousands of people in New Hampshire have nothing to eat. All proceeds go to the NH Food Bank to buy meals for the hungry. With the NH Food Bank able to turn every $1 donated into two nutritious meals, the Nothing campaign has effectively generated more than 735,000 meals for those in need since 2013.

Or, try out the Sanguinary Ridge Trail, which rewards hikers with stunning views of Lake Gloriette and The Balsams Resort.

anglers targeting the toothy northern pike. Anglers will find hungry bass, perch and pickerel at Forest Lake in Dalton or Burns Pond in Whitefield, both off Route 116. For a fun family experience, try the Airport Marsh in Whitefield, where children (and adults) can fish while watching planes take off and land at the Mt. Washington Regional Airport. The two-and-a-half mile stretch of the Connecticut River in Pittsburg, from First Connecticut Lake to Lake Francis, is known as the “Trophy Stretch,” as it contains some of the best trout and salmon fishing in the northeast.

Hepatitis A cases are on the rise, according to new data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Hepatitis A is common in many parts of the world, even in popular tourist destinations such as Mexico, most other countries in Central and South America and some Caribbean countries. Past research has shown that almost half of new cases of hepatitis A in the United States are from Americans traveling abroad and getting infected. In fact, the CDC recently issued a travel advisory due to an outbreak of hepatitis A at a popular tourist destination. Fortunately, the disease can be easily prevented with a safe and effective vaccine. What is hepatitis A? Hepatitis A is a highly contagious liver infection caused by the

hepatitis A virus. The infection can range in severity from a mild illness lasting a few weeks to a severe disease lasting several months. In severe cases, people can die from hepatitis A. Symptoms can include one or more of the following: nausea, vomiting, fever, yellow eyes or skin, stomach pain, dark urine, joint pain or fatigue. How is hepatitis A spread?Hepatitis A is usually spread when a person ingests the virus from

contact with objects, food, or drinks contaminated by feces or stool from an infected person. In countries where hepatitis A is common, the virus can be easily spread from unclean water sources or when an infected person does not thoroughly wash his/her hands and then touches objects or food. Food can become contaminated at any point: growing, harvesting, processing, handling and even after cooking. Regardless of where travelers eat or stay - even if travel is restricted to high-end resort destinations - it is still possible to get infected with the hepatitis A virus. Who's at risk? All unvaccinated travelers to countries where hepatitis A is

common are at risk for getting infected. So even if you plan to travel to urban areas or luxury resort destinations and try to be careful about what you eat and drink, you could still be at risk for hepatitis A. What can you do to protect yourself from hepatitis A?Get vaccinated. The CDC recommends that all travelers to regions

where hepatitis A is common get vaccinated. The hepatitis A vaccine is safe and effective, and is the best way to prevent infection with the virus. The hepatitis A vaccine is typically given in two doses, six months apart, in order to give a person long-term protection against the virus. Even if you are unable to get both shots before you travel, one dose is better - and safer - than traveling unvaccinated. The first dose of vaccine should be administered as soon as travel is considered - two weeks or more before departure if possible. However, one dose of vaccine administered at any time before departure can provide adequate protection for mostly healthy persons.

Check if your health plan will cover travel related vaccines - not all plans will. Vaccinations are available at many doctors' offices, as well as at travel clinics. Low cost vaccination may be obtained at certain pharmacies or your local health department. So before you travel abroad, consider getting this form of travel insurance. (BPT)

The New Hampshire Boat Museum announces its second lecture of the summer season entitled "Pristine Lake Wentworth: How Good Were the Good Old Days?" The talk will be given by Don Kretchmer, a Certified Lakes Manager and member of the Lake Wentworth Foundation and Lake Wentworth Association. The talk will be held on Thursday, July 16th at 7:00 pm and is free and open to the public. The lecture is supported by a grant from the New Hampshire Humanities Council, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Kretchmer's talk will examine Lake Wentworth's ecology through time looking at how man and nature have affected water quality. In recent years, there has been renewed interest in reversing an apparent downward trend in water quality in the lake. Over the past 30 years volunteers have monitored water quality resulting in a watershed management plan for the lake. Currently the Lake Wentworth Foundation is implementing this plan which will reduce nutrient inputs to the lake resulting in better water quality.

The talk will explore the question of what did Lake Wentworth look like 100

years ago, 1,000 years ago or 10,000 years ago? What kind of fish lived in the lake? Who used the lake and for what? What were the water levels? Was the lake as clear as it is now? Were there aquatic plants?

The history of Lake Wentworth includes natural phenomenon like glaciation, hurricanes, tornados and forest fires as well as man-made changes due to logging, damming, agriculture, road building, development and lake use. Using historical accounts and photographs, analysis of sediments, old maps and computer simulations, Kretchmer will shed some light

on these questions and make predictions for the future. He will also discuss actions to help insure high quality water for future generations.

The lessons drawn from the history of Lake Wentworth can be directly applied to lakes all across New Hampshire as many of the events and patterns of development are shared among all of our lakes.

Lisa Simpson Lutts, the Boat Museum's Executive Director says "We are excited to present this talk which explores an unusual topic. Charting the ecological history of a lake over time will provide a unique often overlooked perspective on lake history."

The New Hampshire Boat Museum is open to the public for the 2015 season and will remain open daily through Monday, October 12, 10am-4pm Monday through Saturday, and Sunday 12noon-4pm.

The Museum is a not-for-profit institution focusing on New Hampshire’s boating and fresh water heritage. It is located at 399 Center Street, Wolfeboro Falls, 2 miles from downtown Wolfeboro in the former Allen “A” Resort dance hall.

For further information contact the Museum at 603-569-4554, [email protected], www.nhbm.org or via Facebook.

Custom cabinetry, granite countertops, reclaimed wood flooring and accents, and top-of-the-line, high-tech appliances - what more do you need to make your kitchen renovation perfect? How about adding an island? Designers and builders across the country are pointing to the addition of an island as the must-have upgrade for kitchen renovations this year.

Homeowners are embracing the island, and what's not to love about it? Adding an island can dramatically alter a kitchen's appearance, provide additional storage space and work area, and create a fresh focal point for family meals. What's more, common challenges that have historically held homeowners back from adding islands - such as the difficulty and high costs associated with adding plumbing drainage in the center of the room - are easier to solve than ever. Plumbing problem solvedWhile you could add an island without

plumbing, having a sink in an island can improve the workflow in a kitchen and open up counter space elsewhere. Plumbing an island can be problematic, however, if your home is built on a slab or a crawl space. The

cost of cutting through concrete and adding piping can be prohibitive.

Above-floor plumbing can solve the problem. Manufacturers like Saniflo make a variety of pumping systems that can eliminate the need to cut concrete and reduce the cost of installing plumbing in a new island. For example, the SANISWIFT gray water pumping system is about the size of a small wastebasket (so it fits easily in an island cabinet space), and comes out of the box fully assembled, reducing installation time and costs.

"Cutting through concrete to install plumbing can easily account for 50 percent of a renovation budget," says Chris Peterson of Saniflo. "Homeowners may decide to abandon the idea of an island altogether when they face that kind of cost. Above-floor plumbing allows them to add an island, hide a single drain pipe in a decorative column, and achieve the kitchen of their dreams at a fraction of the cost of traditional plumbing options." Top island trendsIslands are increasingly becoming the

focal point of kitchen renovations, serving

both practical purposes and as design statements. More homeowners are replacing traditional dining tables and breakfast nooks with spacious islands that feature seating. "Islands are replacing tables," said Audrey Macdonald of Creative Interiors By Audrey in Mississauga, Ontario, in the National Kitchen & Bath Association's 2015 Kitchen & Bath Style Report.

In addition to seating, homeowners are incorporating restaurant-quality fittings into islands, adding charging stations for the family's personal digital devices. They're also choosing architectural and design touches such as decorative legs, and countertops and cabinetry that contrast with those around the perimeter of the kitchen.

Kitchen renovations continue to be among the most popular home improvement projects and can offer homeowners a high return on their investments. A major kitchen remodel costing about $56,000 can recoup nearly 68 percent of its cost when you sell your home, while a minor remodel in the range of $19,000 can yield a 79 percent ROI upon resale, according to Remodeling Magazine's Cost vs. Value Report. Spring and summer continue to be the most popular months for selling your home, according to Realtor.com. And with many homeowners staying in their houses for an average of 13 years, your home will surely need some sprucing up to add to its curb appeal. By following a these simple steps, you can increase your home's value without breaking the bank.

Rejuvenate the outdoor living area. Before making a trip to your local home center, make sure to wash the dirt, mildew and general grime off the outside of your house. A power washer is a great tool to help clean siding and renew the surface of decks. A good washing will also bring out the true color of a beautiful flagstone walkway or patio.

Invest in the best tools for the job. One of the most useful tools in creating curb appeal is a hose. From power washing your deck and siding to maintaining your lawn and garden, your hose takes more abuse than any other tool. The Gilmour Flexogen hose is perfect for a variety of outdoor applications and is the strongest hose in its class. Its durable eight-layer construction is ideal for homeowners who put their tools to the test season after season.

Give your yard a manicure. When its best features are hidden by an overgrown lawn or shrubs, your home can appear uninviting. It is recommended to regularly mow grass to a length of two and a half to three inches. This not only helps the grass to grow, but it also provides for a thicker lawn to prevent weeds. Adding landscaping bricks around the border of your garden and flowerbeds also gives your lawn a more premium look.

Add seasonal color with the right vegetation. When choosing plants and flowers, consider what they will look like during different times of the year. For an all-season curb appeal, plant shrubs and flowers that offer colorful fall foliage or leaves with unique textures when not in full bloom. To help you get the best visual results, scout out the ideal locations around your yard before planting. Be sure to account for areas that are always in the sun or are well-shaded.

Maintain the look. One of the key steps to preserving a healthy lawn and garden is to provide at least one inch of water per week through a regular watering schedule. You'll want to choose a hose that has the durability to last even after you've moved into your new home. Gilmour Flexogen's patented construction allows for all-weather performance and delivers maximum functionality in temperatures as low as 45 degrees Fahrenheit. No two days are ever the same in the restaurant industry. Every hour new restaurants open, expand or franchise to meet the needs of their customers. Meanwhile, visionary restauranteurs are constantly creating new processes or taste sensations that create and respond to demand. To keep up in this industry and grow your market share, your restaurant must capitalize on the latest trends.

Restauranteurs looking for the latest trends in food should start with the National Restaurant Association's 2015 Culinary Forecast, highlighting the year's top 20 food trends. While the list itself includes a variety of tastes and considerations, four common themes exist throughout. Trend one: Locally sourced productsThe popularity of locally sourced

products has dominated the restaurant trends list for several years and does so again in 2015. Locally sourced meat and seafood tops the list, with locally grown produce finishing second. Hyper-local sourcing is seventh. If you're a restaurateur who hasn't yet made the push toward local sourcing, consider doing so this year; this trend won't disappear anytime soon. Trend two: Environmentally conscious

decisionsThe restaurant industry is going green to

protect the environment that has provided it with so much. Environmental sustainability was the number-three trend on the 2015 list, while sustainable seafood and food-waste reduction/management finished eighth and ninth. Now more than ever, restaurants must strive for great taste and less waste. Trend three: Healthy optionsRestaurant menus are healthier now

than they were a generation ago, and healthy menu options remain one of the top trends for 2015 with an amazing seven points among the top 20. Healthy kids' meals finished fourth on the list, with natural ingredients and minimally

processed food finishing fifth. Dietary restrictions saw non-wheat noodles and pasta take 11thand gluten-free cuisine at 12th. Whole-grain items in kids' meals came in at 14th, while general nutrition and fruits and vegetable kids' side items were 17th and 19th overall. Trend four: Creative flare and

unique tastesPatrons are still flocking to res-

taurants to be amazed and delighted by something new. The top 20 list is loaded with food trends that center on new taste sensations, starting with new cuts of meat at number six. The classic taste of ancient grains comes in at number 13, while non-tradition-

al fish and ethnic-inspired breakfast items are 15th and 16th. House-made or artisan ice cream was sweet enough to land at 18th on the list, while artisan cheese closes out the list at 20th.

Like the restaurant industry itself, the top 20 trends for 2015 feature an intriguing mix of traditional mainstays and up-and-comers. While capitalizing on these trends now will benefit you in 2015, the trends of 2016 are already being created in an industry where no two days are the same.
