Child reading: Do this every day please – It’s the most important!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. All children – Login to Collins big cat to get the exact books we have been reading for homework!!!!! Have fun reading a few ones you’ve done with your child before and then try some new ones. To access (Pink and Red first)… http://connect.collins.co.uk/school/Portal.aspx Click Teacher Sign in and use the details below: Username: [email protected] Password: Parents20!

2. All children - The website www.starfall.com is very good for small books which your child can sound out and have confidence in reading too.

Sounds - Phonics Group 4 of our letter sounds:

ai j oa ie ee or

Page 6: Senior Infants Work Plan May 25th – 29th · Dathanna – Colours: Ø Can you remember how to say the colours in Irish – try your best!!! Can you write them under the picture –

Day 1:

Ø Go over the two words lists from last week, with the “ai” and “ee” words. Don’t forget to say to your child – Oh remember what happens when two tough guys get together – the first one shouts out his name Ai and Ee.

Ø Challenge – No pressure – just show them the pictures above and ask them to read the words under the picture. Get them to point to the “ai” sound we practised. Then read some others. Oh it looks like that A is being a real tough guy. He’s shouting at the y (who we know sometimes pretends to be a vowel to change his sound), and he’s also looking at the end of the word for the magic e (who we know can’t say a sound at all) and shouting A at him too.

Ø You don’t need to over “teach”, they will naturally read the word from the picture and it will help them recognise the different spellings in their reading in future!!!

Days 2 - 4: (Group 4 sounds every day – Tues to Fri)

Ø Print out these sounds or write them out on a piece of paper. – This week - the red ones in detail. Ø Ask your child to say each sound

******** Remember when two tough guys (vowels) come together the first one is shouting out his name so the second one stays quiet …… Oa ………….Ie. ***********

Ø Word lists to call out – use the words in the boxes below.
