LOOK TWICE,

SAVE A LIFE

Summer is here and warmer weather means there

are more motorcycles on the road and you should

be very aware of your surroundings. Before you

pull out in the street make sure you look twice please ……….. motorcycles are everywhere and

can be difficult to see in the road especially the

black ones! Like mine!! So take an extra minute or

so to look out for that motorcycle that just might

be me ridin’ on down the road!!

July Pot Luck

I know it may be a little on the warm side since it’s summer

now but I like to BBQ so let’s have a BBQ for our July Pot Luck! We’ll fire the grill up and maybe coerce my boss, township

clerk Mike Dolan, to come over and demonstrate his mad skills on the BBQ! I’m

thinking hot dogs and burgers so whatever kind of picnic foods you can come up with will be great! Our own

Kitchen Band will be on hand to entertain us after we eat so that will be a real treat!!

So when is this shindig happening??

Friday, July 21 at the usual time……….

noon.

Crochet Class

Gayle Mosher is our crochet instructor and she comes in every Tuesday to teach.

If you’re a beginner then bring in a size G hook and some cotton yarn to get you

started on a washcloth. If you know the

basics then she will teach different stitches and what you can make with

these stitches or you can just hang with

us. Either way…...a win-win!!

When: Tuesdays, 10:00 am

Cost: $7 per class

Life Portrait Painting Modeling Our Friday Life Portrait Drawing and

Painting group is always looking for folks to come in and model for them. They will

pay you $35 and it’s fascinating to watch them work. If you are modeling, you will strike your pose for about 45 minutes, take a break and then resume

the pose. Or join the group if you want a live model. Bring your own materials and easels along with $5 to

pay your share of the model fee.

Recent Phone Scam - Be Aware

Recently a Hamburg Township resident was the victim of a dangerous phone scam. The scammer called the victim and

informed the victim he had an outstanding warrant in another state. Because the victim had lived there previously and knew a

great deal of personal information about him, the victim believed the call was legitimate. He wired the maximum amount ($400) allowed on his debit card as

instructed by the scammer. The following day the victim received more calls from the scammer demanding the “balance” of the money owed to him. These calls became more demanding and threatening to where the victim realized he was being scammed. He confronted the scammer and refused more payment.

Not much later, Hamburg Township Police were dispatched to a domestic violence call to the address of the scam victim who thought they were

responding to a female whose husband was threatening her with a gun. Livingston County Central Dispatch called the victim back but he hung on them

thinking they were part of the scam. At that point, several officers set up a perimeter around the residence thinking they were about to confront a man with

a gun on his wife. After approximately 15 minutes, officers were able to convince the victim and his wife to exit the home. And then the kicker is that the

scammer called the victim back while the police were still there and naturally

hung up as soon as the officer answered the phone. So here’s the deal:

1) no police department will ever attempt to have you “clear up” a warrant, post a bond or pay a fine over the telephone; 2) If you receive a call from

someone reporting to be a police officer and you are suspicious about their true identity, please ask them for their name and the name of the police

department for whom they work. Then hang up and either call that police department (using a phone from a reliable source) or call your local police department and ask that they help you verify the legitimacy of the officer; 3) please call your local police department and report if you are the victim

of a scam attempt. This information is from the Hamburg Police Dept.

July Birthdays

The New Flex Route on U.S. 23

I received a blurb via e-mail about the new Flex Route on U.S.- 23 and thought I would share the information. The Flex Route includes a network of computerized overhead signs, cameras

and electronic message boards attached to overhead signs and it is designed to warn drivers as well as manage peak rush hour congestion. As motorists approach the area, overheard signs will appear to frame the highway and posted above each lane will be a lane control sign

displaying key information which will be determined by the current traffic conditions. For ex-ample, a green arrow would indicate an open lane whereas a red X would indicate a closed lane

or the signs may be blank over the regular travel lanes or be posted with the recommended

speed limit based on the current ravel conditions. Information motorists need to observe:]

A Green Arrow: will be displayed above an open lane. During morning and afternoon peak

travel periods, shoulder lanes will be open to improve the flow of traffic.

A Red X: will be displayed above a closed lane. For example, if a lane is closed due to a traffic event, a red X posted above warns drivers so the event can be avoided; if there is no traffic

congestion a red X will appear above the lane to advise drivers it is not currently available

The Recommended Speed: will be posted above each open lane
