Music Dance

‘There are many ways to play a piece of music, as long as you never play it safe.’ Unknown

String Quartet - Please enquire if interested but places offered first by invitation. Suitable for players Grade 5 and above.

Composition Workshop - Composition coaching, useful for GCSE students or those with an interest in composition.

Music Theory - Group music theory tuition for all abilities.

Musical Theatre - Coaching and performance opportunities for those interested in thisrepertoire. Limited to 15 students.

Saxinet Group - An opportunity for clarinettists and saxophonists to explore a range of music and styles. Open to Grade 2 and up.

String Ensemble - Suitable for violinists, violists, cellists and double bassists. All abilities can be included.

Cello Choir - Cello ensemble on an invitation basis but please enquire if interested.Lunchtime Concert - Open to all students wishing to perform. Enquire with Mr Meakin if you are interested.

Vocal Ensemble - Vocal ensemble exploring a range of classical, traditional and contemporary repertoire, open to students. An ability to read music is advantageous but not essential. Limited to 15 students.

Music Technology, Production and Stage-Craft - Learn how to understand and setup music, sound and stage equipment used in live music making.

Computer based music production and composition - Learn how to compose and create music digitally using Logic Pro X and GarageBand.

Dance

Ballet - focuses on short barre and centre work, age appropriate stretches and basic positions of the legs and arms. Students will learn ballet fundamentals and terminology while developing strength, confidence, balance and flexibility. This is not a Graded lesson and examination work will only be taught on a Saturday.

Contemporary Dance – focus on expressing emotion through organic movements and unrestricted lines. Incorporating elements of Lyrical, Jazz, Ballet and Modern dance, Contemporary is an exciting fusion which allows students to work through powerful and emotional routines.

Lyrical Dance - is a dance style that embodies various aspects of Ballet, Jazz, Acrobatics, and Modern dance. The style is usually danced at a faster pace than Ballet but not as fast as Jazz. Lyrical dance is a category typically found in dance competitions

Tap - is designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, co-ordination, and speed of movement. This is not a Graded lesson and examination work will only be taught on a Saturday.

Street Dance - is graceful, powerful and will challenge your body. It is a freestyle dance: throughout the course you will explore several different styles of Street dance and begin building the vocabulary of movement to help you learn to freestyle with confidence and flair.

Jazz - will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improvingperformance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed tovarious styles of Jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary, to help develop a well rounded dancer.

Grade Dance Classes – Students must have reached this level to join this class. Classes are taught the ISTD examination syllabus work in Modern and Tap and Cecchetti examination syllabus work in Ballet lessons.

Sport ‘The five S’s of sports training are: stamina, speed, strength, skill and spirit; but the greatest of these is spirit.’ Ken Doherty

Rugby and Hockey - Students will develop their technical, tactical and physical rugby and hockey skills in preparation for theseason ahead.

Golf - Please come along and play some golf in our new golf nets on-site at New Hall. Available for all abilities. If you are juststarting , then do come along as you will receive lessons on the golf swing to help you improve. If you are already playing, then please join in to work on swingtechnique and coaching advice. If you have your own clubs then please do bring them, however, if you don’t have any equipment, we shall provide a range of different sized clubs.

Drama

Drama - For those who want to flex their creative muscles and enjoy being dramatic. We will combine lots of theatre related games with bringing stories and characters to life.

Year 10, 11, 12 & 13 Art & Year 11 GCSE Photography - This activity will cater for up to 14 students at any one time. The activity will be primed towards helping in GCSE coursework submissions. Sixth Form students will work in a separate bubble and more independently, with occasional advice from the teacher.

Year 13 Art/Photography - This activity will allow for extended use of the Year 13 Art studio and it will support the advancement of A Level coursework submissions. There will be no limit to the numbers, but it is for Year 13 Art/Photography students only.

Explore the rich and fascinatinghistory of art and artists with your peers.

An academic club exploring all things Geography. Promoting the subject beyond the classroom to inspire, motivate and engage students in some of the biggest and most pressingissues facing the planet.

Participate in various recreational mathematical activities and challenges each week.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is highly respected in school as an opportunity for students to developleadership, team work, demonstratecommitment and experience the outdoors. Sessions after school will teach students about navigation, compass skills, map-reading as well as cooking on a trangia all in preparation for a two day, one night expedition during the Trinity Term. This is a sign-up activity for students with a cost implication.

Bronze Dukeof EdinburghAward Club

Sessions after school will build on the skills that students start to learn throughout the Bronze sessions in Year 10 including navigation, compass skills, map-reading as well as cooking on a trangia. Students can direct entry onto the Silver Award or transfer their Bronze into Silver. The expeditions will take place later this academic year and are three days and two nights; both will need to be completed. This is a sign-up activity for students with a costimplication.

Gold is the pinnacle of the Award scheme and is very favourably considered by universities and employers. Sessions after school will build on the skills that students starting to learn throughout the Silver ses-sions in Year 11. Students can direct entry onto the Gold Award or transfer their Sil-ver onto Gold. The expeditions will take place later this academic year and are four days and three nights; both will need to be completed. This is a sign-up activity for students with a cost implication. Further information about signing up will beavailable in September for Gold.

Read and discuss brilliant, fascinating, challenging, diverse,engaging books and poems with your peers.

AstronomyClub

A club to study astronomy and learn more about the stars and planets including using telescopes to observe the stars when the evening getsdarker.

GCSE SpanishClub

Activities to support classroom work and to ensure students are given the opportunity to attend additional, named sessions if they wish.

EconomicsSociety

An engaging and topical after-schoolsociety for students who are passionate about economic affairs. We aim to widen students’ understanding of economic related issues and encourage reasoned debate, good communication and critical thinking skills. Students will be given the opportunity to work in groups, share ideas and present on topics they have an interest in. The Society will also incorporate revision sessions asexaminations approach.

Politics &Current Affairs

Club

Global Politics, InternationalRelations, Identity Politics andNature of Terrorism Society.

Business &Enterprise

Society

A society for students of Business and students who are interested in business and enterprise. We aim to analyse the impact of current affairs on business.

OnlineChess Club

Lichess is one of the world’s leading chess sites. Students will have access to the site and the chance to play friendly orcompetitive chess with school friends orplayers from across the world. There is some great learning material available and you can even try out some strange chess variations!

This term is primarily a chance to have fun exploring the site and playing each other online.

New Hall FarmClub

Students visit New Hall Farm and lookafter the animals on site and learn abouttheir habitats.

Theology Society

An opportunity to debate theological,philosophical and ethical issues. There is no obligation to study Theology A Level if you wish to attend.
