SDPisanapplicationoftechnical,communication,personal,andteamskills.Oralandwrittencommunicationoftechnicalinformation,includingprogressreports,technicalmemos,finalreport,andoralpresentations.
Studentsworkinsmallgroupsovertwosemesterstoidentifyanopportunity,definetheproblem,analyzecompetingneedsandrequirements,performpriorworksearches,developalternativedesigns,carryoutcostanalyses,andselectandimplementadesignsolution.

Whatisdifferentaboutthisclass
Unlikeothercourses,thiscoursedoesnotintendregularparticipationinclass,insteaditisindependentstudy/research.MeetingsarescheduledwiththeProjectAdvisor(facultymentor)fortheparticularSeniorDesignProject.EachProjectTeamwillmeettogetherweekly,keepingdetailedminutesofthemeetings.

• SDPcan'tbecarriedoutasanindividualproject.• Teamsizeisrestrictedtoonly3or4students.Inexceptionalcase,ProjectAdvisororProgramCoordinatorcanrecommendlargerteamoffivemembers.• Allstudentsareresponsibletoformtheirteam.• Inexceptionalcaseswhenteamcan'tfortheirteam,ProjectAdvisororProgramCoordinatorcandictateteam’smembers.• TeammembersmayconsiststudentsfromdifferentprogramsoftheSITE.• ThecontributionofeachTeamMemberintoprojectsuccessmustbeclearduringallphasesoftheproject.• EachProjectTeamshouldassignTeamLeader(firstinmembers’list).
