On October 30, 2018, a “Seminar Promoting and Strengthening Search for Sustainable and Eco-friendly Schools and Water Education for Teachers” was conducted at 5th Floor DENR by the Bay Building, Roxas Blvd. Ermita Manila by EMB CALABARZON Region led by the Environmental Education and Information Section. The purpose of the seminar was to encourage schools/ academic institutions to to join the said search and to become more actively involved in environmental issues at a practical and local level. A total of forty (40) teachers from the Schools Division of Cavite Province participated in the seminar which involved lectures on Republic Act 6969 or Toxic Chemicals and Hazardous and Nuclear Waste Control Act of 2009 and Best Practic- es of Imus National High School (INHS) discussed by Engr. Marissa DC. Malabana, OIC Chemical and Hazardous Waste Section and Mr. Arturo P. Rosaroso, Principal INHS Main, respectively. Project Water Education for Teachers (WET) was also incorporated in the program of the seminar to promote solutions, pratices and initiatives of schools in water management. It was facilitated by Engr. Jesus Reyes, Vice President Corporate Affairs Executive Nestle Philippines, Inc., together with Mr. Austin Chua and Ms. Mary Ann Poa. Project WET was fun and new yet very informative and enlightening approach to promote water conservation and management. To complete the seminar, Dir. Noemi A. Paranada, OIC Regional Director, graced the event by delivering her speech and by giving a brief discussion on the status of Manila Bay and Water Quality Management targets and accomplishments in CALABARZON Region. The National Search for Sustainable and Eco-friendly Schools is a partnership program launched in 2009 among government agencies and private companies. This government agencies include the Department of Environment and Natural Resources thru the Environmental Management Bureau, Department of Education and Commission on Higher Education. Meanwhile, among the private institutions which support the program are Smart Communciations Inc., One Meralco Foundation, and Nestle Philippines Inc. The Search is repeated periodically every two years and the next one will be in 2019.
