Dear Parents,
January marks the halfway point of the school year. It is a time to look forward and look
back, so this newsletter has a little of both. It is also a wonderful time to set goals for the
new year, including goals for helping your child in school. Do you know their current
grade? How about their attendance? When is their next major test or project? What is
their exam schedule? How can you contact the teacher? We hope you will continue to
take an active role in your child’s education by using One Drive and emailing teachers
regularly. Your questions are always welcome.
Please take a look at the semester exam schedule on page 8. This is the big event of
January. Then, after exams, we go right into Semester 2 beginning January 27, 2020.
Our next break is February 21-29, 2020.

Student Absences
What do you do if your child needs to leave school?
Call us. Only a parent phone call can excuse a child
from school. Calls from nannies or drivers will not be
accepted by the school. We want to ensure that you are
in control of when/if your student is absent—not student,
nanny, family friend or driver.
Questions?
If you have a question about anything at school, please
email any one of the principals or Dr. Sue. We are happy
to assist you.
School is a little different now than many years ago. We
are happy to explain why we do some things and take
your suggestions.
Fees
Semester 2 fee payments are due on or before
February 29, 2020. February 29, 2020 is the final day
to pay fees prior to any late charges being added.
Thank you to the many parents who have been diligent
with your payments. It is much appreciated!
And, as always, if there are unique, extenuating circum-
stances, please communicate with Mr. Hussain in the
Business Office.
FOR PARENTS OF SENIORS:
Students may not participate in the graduation ceremony
or receive final documents until all fees are paid in full.
Please plan accordingly for this including the 500 QR
graduation fee for the cap/gown and ceremony fee.
Professional Development
On early dismissal days, teachers work toward
school improvement. At our December early

be earning 20 hours of service/volunteer time along with the
travel opportunity.

Your link to One Drive works for the entire school
year!
Please use it regularly to access weekly plans and
other communications.
Parent Concerns
The Ministry of Education has opened a parent complaint portal
for all private schools in Qatar. The URL is:
http://www.privateschools.edu.gov.qa
One of the first questions on the portal is, “Have you registered
your concern with the appropriate school management?”
As always, we have a strong desire to serve you and provide
your student with the best.
Contacting your child’s teacher and if not resolved, a principal is
the first step to a successful partnership. Beyond that, if you feel
that a complaint to the Ministry is necessary, please contact our
school representative at the Ministry, Mr. Ali.
Technology
Students at all grade levels
are integrating technology into
their learning. With our mobile
laptop cart, students can
utilize technology when they
are ready, in small groups, as
a class or during their breaks.
This is part of our vision of
incorporating technology into
learning.
As a part of our service to you, we provide our correspondence via email. Please make sure that we have your updated email.
If you do not receive anything from us, please send an email with your child’s name and grade to:
School Calendar for 2020-21
As always, we begin working on the next school year calendar
in January. We hope to share the calendar for 2020-21 with
you by March 1, 2020. This depends on receiving accurate
information from the Ministry of Education in a timely manner.
We know you are eager to make plans!
Weather Reminder
Just a reminder as the weather gets a little chilly...
The following are the opening times for various
parts of our school facility.
6:30 a.m. Opening of the gate for entrance to the
blue canopy
6:45 a.m. Large gates open for entry to the
courtyard
6:55 a.m. School building opens
There are parents who choose to drop off their
children as early as 6:00 a.m. We have been clear
that we do not provide child care before school.
Please be thoughtful of your child’s needs, safety
and weather conditions as you drop them off in the
morning to an unsupervised location.
Investing in MIS
There are always new things to be added to MIS in order to
provide better services and of course, there are some regular and
usual things that need to be done to maintain our school:
New padlets for KG learning to integrate technology
Over 800 new library books for KG-Grade 3 added this year
New shelves that are child friendly height added in library for all the books!
Service Learning
Leadership and service go together. Students at MIS are participating in more
and more service learning opportunities each year, so that they can lead in our
community. Community is a Core Value and service learning builds all of the
Core Values: community, empathy, responsibility and integrity.
Perfect Attendance
There was an omission of one student’s name for the
Perfect Attendance in the prior newsletter.
Descallar Shanawaz—Grade 8—also had perfect
attendance in the first quarter!
Congratulations!
Connecticut Sister School Visits MIS
Each year, we have an exchange program that brings students from the
USA to Qatar and creates an opportunity to send our students to the USA.
Trip planning starts nearly a year in advance of student travel. Below, you
can see some pictures from the exchange.
Learning by Doing
Students learn best by doing. Doing is a part of problem
solving and thinking critically.
In math, with Mr. Mark, students in Grade 6 (pictured at the
right) are asked to learn about measurement and conversions
between measurement systems.
Students in Grade 9 (pictured below) learn their PET words
and lead activities in English class with Ms. Irene.

Exam Schedule/Information for All Parents
At the end of January, students in Grades 6-12 will be taking first semester exams. Students should have started pre-paring and reviewing for exams from December.
Exams are 20% of the semester grade at Grade 6, 25% at Grade 7 and 30% in Grades 8-12.
Teachers were required to post to One Drive their exam preparation sheet on December 15.
Students in Grade KG-5 will have normal school days during the exam schedule.
All middle and high school students must make arrangements to leave after the exams. The school will not have supervision and students are expected to be studying at home for the following day as the review ses-sions will be completed prior to exams.
We encourage you to maintain a regular schedule for KG-Grade 5 students. KG-Grade 5 have regular classes during the exam week. We want them to stay for the full school day each and every day. In order to take a brother or sister who is KG-Grade 5 before dismissal, the parents must complete the permission form for the younger child. Brothers and sisters may only take the younger child if the form is completed.
Please email the classroom teacher or principal if you have questions about your child’s schedule.
On exam days, please make arrangements to pick up your Grade 6-12 child immediately after exams.
Parents are responsible for the safe collection of students Grades 6-12. The school allows all students in
Grades 6-12 to leave right after exams.
School bus riders Grades 6-12 can continue to take the bus and leave at 12:15 pm with the KG students. School bus
riders that are staying back till 12:15 can utilize their time to review for exams in rooms assigned by school principals.
Kindly review the exam dismissal slip carefully for KG-Grade 5 students. Again, KG-5 have normal classes
scheduled each and every day, except on the early dismissal on January 24, and we encourage them to
remain in school for their learning.
National Day a Wonderful Success
Happy National Day!!!

School Bus Policy
It is the middle of the year and a reminder about our School Bus Policy is needed. Please review the following with
your child if they are a bus rider and remember the three basic rules: sit in seat, hands to self and quiet voice.
In order to help young students practice these rules, we encourage the use of the SAME language in your family car
so that students can always ride safely. Sit in seat, hands to self, quiet voice.
Bus Rules:
The bus driver is in charge of the bus and all its passengers are to follow the instructions and directions of the driver.
Students will be courteous to classmates and the bus driver.
Parents are responsible for any damage done to the buses by their children.
Students are to ride their assigned bus and to be discharged at their designated stop.
Students will be at their designated bus stop on time.
Students will follow safety rules at the bus stops.
As the school bus approaches a bus stop, students are to stand and wait at a safe distance for the bus to stop completely and for the door to open before approaching the bus.
Students are not to interfere with anyone passing to or from a seat.
Students will not stand while the bus is in motion.
The emergency door will only be opened in emergencies.
Students assigned to a seat by the bus driver are to sit in it.
Fighting is not allowed on the school bus.
There will be no throwing of objects on the bus.
Students will not play musical instruments on the bus.
Students will not eat on the bus.
Procedures for Handling Misconduct on School Buses:
1. When an incident occurs, the driver will pull the bus to the side of the road and stop the bus with lights flashing. The driver will then warn the person(s) involved to stop their behavior and continue en route, if possible. No driver may discharge any student en route, un-less it is the student’s authorized stop.
2. The driver must report immediately all cases of misconduct and bus damage to the building principal or busing supervisor in writing utilizing the appropriate form.
3. The principal or busing supervisor will determine whether a student will be suspended from riding the bus.
4. Bus drivers will issue verbal warnings to students before writing an incident report.
5. Incident reports are written at the discretion of the bus driver. In each case, the bus driver will give the student verbal warnings so that the student understands that what he or she is doing is distracting the driver. Any rules and regulations that are broken are considered an incident and may be reported as such. Incident reports are made out. The original is turned in to the principal or bus supervisor. The principal or bus supervisor sends one copy to the parents stating what action the school has taken. Incident reports will be kept on file in the school office.
6. Students may be suspended from riding the bus for a minimum of one week for:
· Swearing or obscene gestures to the bus driver, Striking or spitting on the bus driver, Bus driver being hit by a flying object, Distraction of the school bus, Opening the emergency door, Three incident reports, Lighting matches on the school bus, Smoking on the school bus, Fighting or hitting, Not sitting in assigned seat, Unauthorized possession of a weapon such as a knife, club, etc.
*In addition, the school retains the discretion to suspend a student for any unsafe behavior not listed.
7. Students suspended from riding the bus, after the parents have been notified, will not be allowed to ride any school bus to and from school. The parents will be expected to provide transportation.
