Background

DSMM is a Federal Department formed in 1885

Official national organisation responsible for surveying and mapping in Malaysia

Comprises 15 State Survey and Mapping Departments in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan

Triangulation Survey

• Perak Trigonometrical Survey Department was established in1887

• Establishment of PERAK SYSTEM Triangulation network in Perak, Penang and Kedah (1888 – 1896).

Topographic Survey

• Topographical Branch was established in 1910• Land Survey Datum was established in 1912• Survey carried out with plane table, prismatic

compasses and Theodolites.

Cadastral Survey

• Survey carried out with conventional Theodolites, prismatic compasses and chains

• Adopted the English Cadastral Survey methods; Bowditch and Transit Systems
