Career Planning for Dynamic Economies– SELFIE Project N°: 2014-1-IE01-KA200-000364
RATIONALE • The SELFIE project is based on the belief that we now need to consider career planning as a subject instead of career guidance as a service; a subject with curriculum resources at different levels, with required learning outcomes and an assessment framework to measure aTainment.
• In career planning students should be taught: • How to research the marketplace and idenXfy potenXal career opportuniXes; • How to evaluate opXons using appropriate decision making processes and criteria; • How to assess their own strengths and weaknesses; • How to present themselves in the most beneficial way to academia or to potenXal employers.

INNOVATIONS • SELFIE will develop, test and pilot the following resources:
1. A curriculum development and assessment framework that incorporates introductory, intermediate and advanced levels informed by research that outlines the modules to be developed, the scope of each module and an outline of how levels of aTainment of students in the new career planning subject area should be examined and measured;
2. A learning outcome matrix that sets out the learning outcomes to be achieved for each module and at each level;
3. A suite of curriculum resources for each level and for each module idenXfied; 4. A suite of assessment tools to measure student aTainment; 5. A comprehensive inducXon program for teachers that supports them to teach career planning
and to facilitate the learning of students in non-‐tradiXonal technology based learning environments.

PROJECT AIMS & OBJECTIVES • The aim of the SELFIE project is to develop a new model of career planning educaXon that supports the acquisiXon of key skill sets among school aged students to enable independent career planning beyond formal educaXon environments and to support teachers to facilitate the learning of students in a range of different learning environments.
• The objecXves of the SELFIE project are: • To provide a suite of teaching resources that empower and moXvate students to design and plan their own career progression pathway to further educaXon or the world of work whichever is most appropriate to their individual preferences and apXtudes;
• To ensure that students have the skills and know-‐how to self-‐manage their career progression throughout their working lives;
• To provide appropriate inducXon training resources to support the conXnuous professional development of teachers and career guidance professionals.
Career Planning for Dynamic Economies– SELFIE Project N°: 2014-1-IE01-KA200-000364
SELFIE TARGET GROUPS • There are two primary target groups addressed by the SELFIE project namely; students in second level educaXon -‐ generally between the ages of 12 and 18 years -‐ and second-‐level teachers and guidance experts.
• Curriculum resources developed to support the teaching of career planning as a subject in second level educaXon will be designed at three levels. Introductory Level addressed to students between the ages of 12 to 14 years; Intermediate Level addressed to students between the ages of 14 to 16 years; Advanced Level addressed to students between the ages of 16 to 18 years.
• InducXon training for teachers and exisXng career guidance experts will be developed to support their integraXon into the new career planning curriculum.

SELFIE TARGET GROUPS • The inducXon training will also focus on highlighXng how exisXng experXse within educaXon and guidance circles can be harnessed to facilitate the independent career planning of students.
• Secondary target groups include school managers and policy makers; career guidance organisaXons; youth organisaXons and organisaXons providing career support services to unemployed persons. The methodology and resources developed could be equally relevant in any of the educaXonal circumstances where these secondary target groups work.
• Implicated target groups will be involved in the project throughout the project life-‐cycle. The research control groups in each partner country will comprise local representaXves of the target group and will play an important role in the research, development, tesXng and evaluaXon of project outputs.

SELFIE DISSEMINATION • The SELFIE project will develop appropriate resources to spread the project results and embed them in school educaXon and also to contribute to the implementaXon and shaping of career guidance provision and policy.
• The success or failure of any disseminaXon strategy is very much dependent on the strength of the networks that each partner in the project consorXum has ready and open access to.
• LMETB will develop a standard presentaXon and all partners will use this tool to promote the project at local level.
• These target groups will comprise the research control groups to be established in each partner country to inform the development process.
• The secng-‐up of these research control groups is an important first step in the disseminaXon process of building a cohort of advocates for the project in partner countries.

• All products and promoXonal materials will respect project branding guidelines. • This project will place a considerable emphasis on digital media and therefore partners will develop a comprehensive suite of on-‐line promoXonal materials for use through virtual pladorms.
• On-‐line newsleTers will be produced 4 Xmes throughout the project life-‐cycle in months 6, 12, 18 and 24 and will achieve a distribuXon target of >1000 end users.
