WINTER CAS SPORT vs. St. Stephen’s Duncraig

It was a story of two halves last week vs. St. Stephen’s Duncraig . . .

The Seniors all lost their fixtures, whilst all but one Middle School Team returned with victories. Well done to Sophie Stratfold, Ellie Walters and Michelle Bester (Year 7A Netball) who filled in for some Year 10 students who were completing examinations. The three girls then backed this up on Wednesday in a critical game against a strong St. Stephens’s Team that consisted of four District players in a closely fought win 19 – 17 which should hopefully see the Year 7A Netball Team qualify to the Grand Final in Week 10.

Well done to the Year 9A Netball Team who had a win during their exam week. The Junior Boys and Junior Girls Soccer Teams which also consist of Year 9s also had wins. The Year 8 Netball Team remains unbeaten, as do both the Year 7 Boys and Girls Soccer Teams who have now qualified for finals.

The Year 7 boys Soccer team faced St. Stephen’s (Duncraig) on a sunny but chilly day. The game started off in a subdued mood with the St Stephen’s Goalkeeper putting in some good saves. It took an inspired goal from Nathaniel Lok to open the scoring, curling the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box. As the game headed to half time the Year 7 Boys team managed to gain a 2-0 advantage.

  • At half time we discussed using our strengths whilst keeping it solid at the back. Using the width of the pitch and our passing skills, the half started with a more confident approach. The Year 7 Boys team scored a further seven goals, only prevented from scoring more by the fine skills of the opposition Goalkeeper. The final score ended 9-0, reverting to 7-0 due to the mercy ruling. Goal scorers were Jonny Kilgallon (4), Charlie Fielding (2), Nathaniel Lok (1), Rais Aluwi (1) and Morgan Cooper (1). Next week is a bye week and training will occur before the final match in the group stage against St. Stephens Carramar. Hopefully we can complete the season unbeaten. The boys have played well all season and the result this week should have given them a home final in week 10.

Phil Carr (Year 7 Boys Soccer Team Coach)

A number of teams are still very much in contention for the Grand Finals in Week 10, some of whom who have confirmed qualification following Round 5. Up-to-date ladders can be found at: http://www.metisc.com.au/iscoresn/index.cfm?db=5&foid=4

WEST COAST EAGLES PLAYERS VISIT & COACHING SESSION On Monday 16th June during Periods 4 and 5, a number of lucky Year 10 Football Sports Leaders, the Junior Boys Football Team, and the Year 7 Boys Football Team had the opportunity (by invitation only) to meet some Professional AFL players from the West Coast Eagles Football Club. They also delivered a coaching session to players.

I hope you enjoy the photos alongside:

  • JUNIOR BOYS FOOTBALL TEAM RESULT Peter Moyes ACS 6.6.42 lost to Butler CHS 7.6.48 In a strong and improved performance, the Junior Boys Football Team narrowly lost to Butler by a single goal. Richard Hynes played strongly at the back in a game that was desperately close and even. The team’s last game is next week vs. Irene McCormack (away).

ACC ATHLETICS SQUAD – COMMUNITY SERVICE –NOMINATIONS OPEN! The ACC ‘B’ Division Athletics Carnival is held at the State Athletics Stadium, Claremont, on Thursday 18th September.

The Community Service Sports Leadership program has been very successful. Many of our Senior School students have accrued hours towards their graduation, while refereeing, umpiring, assisting coaching, and mentoring some of our Middle School students. This develops responsibility, assertiveness, decision making and communication skills.

As Senior student role models, this is an incredibly important job which assists with the success of Inter-School Sport.

Nominations are now open for Senior students (& selected Year 9 students) to assist with the forth coming ACC Athletics training. Places are limited to complete your Community Service at Peter Moyes Athletics Training in Term 3, 2014.

So far a number of students have already enquired and been accepted to act as Athletics Sports Leaders including Steven Oakes, Ross Godwin, Francine Van Den Berg, Alicia Hortle, Susan Majok, Liam Van Der Spuy, Aniesha Bennett and Delaney Smith.

Students will be chosen based upon the attributes they exhibit in and around School. They will also require a fundamental knowledge of Athletic events. Students must opt for a specialist event of their preference and must commit for the duration of the training period from Week 5 onwards. Most students who nominate will have experience of representing the School at ACC Athletics whilst they were in Year 7-9, and are likely to be in the ACC Athletics Squad. You will be assisting a staff member with coaching, training and organisation. You will also be

offered the opportunity to attend the ACC Athletics Carnival as a Marshall (if not competing). A minimum of 10 hours will be accrued if you nominate to be a Junior Athletics Coach. Student Community Service Contracts can be found on the Sports Noticeboards in Senior School, or speak to Mr. B. Streeter with any questions. All squad and training enquiries should be directed to Mr. B. Streeter.

  • YEAR 10 ADVANCED SPORT The Year 10 Advanced Sport classes have been participating in a Fitness Programme which consists of a number of sessions delivered either at Surge in Mindarie or their instructors visiting us at School. Activities include Tabata, RPM (spin cycling), Pilates and Body Combat. This enables students to see local sporting and fitness facilities they may choose to join outside of school for lifelong participation and a continued healthy lifestyle. A number of past students now work at Surge Fitness as Personal Trainers so it is pleasing to see the influence that Physical Education can play in a students’ potential career choice. Lightning Carnival The Year 6 students have completed the Lightning Carnival Thursday fixtures with tremendous Peter Moyes spirit. Congratulations Year 6 students on your capacity to compete with graciousness, skill and team cohesion! It has been impressive observing your skills improve while establishing a good team atmosphere. What I enjoy the most is hearing about your experiences when you return from the games and observing the enjoyment you have experienced when playing sport. Sport is a great avenue to meeting people, keeping fit and having fun and there are lots of community clubs that you could explore to continue the sporting experience. Thank you too for your organisation and commitment to training on Wednesday. This programme cannot be successful without the help of key players. I would like to sincerely thank the following people for your support:

To my Year 6 colleagues: Mandy Harris, Suzanne Middleton, Kellie Shimmings and Aitsh Patel.

To the family helpers: Hayden Mykytiuk, Michelle Bushell and Martena Lawson.

To Emme Wild and her team of Senior School students who act as referees.

To Wendy Weston and her assistance with first aid.

To Rod Wood and Nicole Brown for their administrative support.
