Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary Media Center Self-Evaluation Plan of Action (POA) This plan has been developed by the media specialist. This plan corresponds to the self-evaluation rubric conducted on April 14 th , 2015. The evaluation tool used was the Judy Serritella Exemplary Library Media Program Self-Evaluation Rubric.     Self-Evaluation Plan of Action (POA)

    This plan has been developed by the media specialist. This plan corresponds to the self-evaluation rubric conducted on April 14th, 2015. The evaluation tool used was the Judy Serritella Exemplary Library Media Program Self-Evaluation Rubric.

    Goals of this POA:

    1) To document the current standing of the school library

    2) To ensure plans are in place to achieve proficiency in all target indicators

  • Category 1: Student Achievement & Instruction 6 Target Indicators 1) Information Literacy Standards are integrated into content instruction

    Current Status: Basic: Information Literacy Skills curriculum is comprised of basic library media

    orientation skills and instruction on how to find information.

    POA: Target: Proficient

    The ALA Crosswalk will be provided to teachers and administration in order to identify areas

    that information literacy can be integrated into content instruction.

    The media specialist will ensure Common Core standards are identified and posted for any

    instructional time spent with students.

    In order to foster more collaboration with teachers, the media specialist will identify key teachers

    throughout the school who seem receptive to collaboration and will work to provide support.

    2) Collaborative planning includes both the Media Specialist and teachers to ensure use of library

    media center resources that support on-going classroom instruction and implementation of state

    curriculum and the GPS and CCGPS.

    Current Status: Basic: The media specialist participates in collaborative planning when initiated by

    the teacher.

    POA: Target: Proficient

    The media specialist will become the school expert on resources provided on the Georgia

    Standards webpage.

    The media specialist will support collaborative efforts of teachers by identifying resources pulled

    for content instruction to all same grade level teachers. This could be an internal spreadsheet

    on shared document on drive that all teachers have access to or could simply be a cc on any

    emails regarding content support.

    3) Professional library media staff are engaged in active teaching roles.

    Current Status: Basic: The media specialist makes recommendations to students for class projects

    and pleasure reading. She/he provides basic orientation and instruction on information location

    skills.

    POA: Target: Proficient

    Comply with plan for target indicator 1 & 2 in order to ensure the library is an extension of the

    classroom.

    6) Student achievement is routinely assessed.

    Current Status: Proficient: Together the teacher and media specialist develop a rubric or another

    effective means for assessing student achievement.

    POA: Target: Exemplary

    The media specialist will develop additional tools that will support measured success for content

    learning.

  • The media specialist will identify and present Web 2.0 tools for assessment at a planned

    professional development session.

    Category 2: Technology 2 Target Indicators

    8) Technology Integration The media specialist integrates the use of emerging technologies as a means for effective and creative teaching and to support P-12 conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and creative processes.

    Current Status: Basic: The SLMS rarely recommends technology tools for instruction.

    POA: Target: Proficient

    The media specialist will request professional development training in technology instruction integration.

    The media specialist will commit to review the ALA Top Websites & Apps for classroom use and communicate her findings to grade level lead teachers.

    The media specialist will work to provide more ebooks in the library.

    Category 3: Staffing 1 Target Indicator 9b) A school system shall employ a fulltime Media Specialist for each base size school or larger. Current Status: Basic: In compliance with state rule, but the Media Specialist may be required to perform other duties on a daily or frequent basis. POA: Target: Proficient

    The media specialist will work with administration to ensure she/he is available for open and flexible access to the library. A log will be made available of time spent out of the library at others direction.

    Category 4: Facilities, Access, & Resources 6 Target Indicators

    15) Effective and engaging software and on-line resources will be an integral part of every schools curriculum.

    Current Status: Basic: Students will be given instruction in accessing GALILEO. Password will be

    provided in a timely manner.

    POA: Target: Exemplary

    The media specialist will conduct promotion session on GALILEO for both teachers and

    students each semester.

    The media specialist will provide a professional development once per year on GALILEO

    instruction.

    The media specialist will work to promote online courses and lessons on GALILEO to teachers

    and administrators.

    Category 5: Administrative Support 5 Target Indicators

  • 18) A library media policy will be adopted that provides for the establishment of a media committee at the system level and at each school. This committee shall annually evaluate library services and develop a multi-year media plan for budget services and priorities. Current Status: Basic: A media committee exists and meets once or twice a year. POA: Target: Proficient

    A media committee will be developed beyond the leadership team to include parents and community stakeholders.

    20) Each local school system shall spend 100% of the funds designated for library costs. Current Status: Basic: The library receives an allocation for expenditures every year which meets the minimum tests. POA: Target: Proficient

    The media specialist will work with the newly formed media advisory committee and administration to identify supplemental funds.
