In the early 2000s in Australia a small group of Christians who knew Fr John Naumann commenced raising funds in support of Fr John’s endeavours in regional Tanzania and called themselves, Hearts for Africa. Today the Hearts for Africa (Amani) Foundation is a registered charity and a partner for project J783 with Global Development Group, an Australian approved Non-Government Organisation overseeing quality humanitarian projects. “I am planting a tree which will bear fruit.” This became Fr John’s guiding light. 2002: Fr John founded the Amani Development Organisation in Makang’wa Village, Dodoma Region, Tanzania. Water wells - potable drinking water and drip irrigation for crops. Improved health and nutrition for all Support for Eye Department at nearby Mvumi Hospital Children of Peace pre-school & Activity Centre. Football teams. Agricultural and horticultural activities established including cattle, pigs, chickens, grapes and maize. On the job training for staff and community participation. Prince of Peace primary school & kindergarten. Meals for students. School buses. Sponsored teacher training. Outstanding school results. Visits from Queensland school & international university students Residence and support for street children & disadvantaged students. Dodoma Children’s Multipurpose Project now known as VIMECHIA. Preparation for local leadership. Tertiary qualifications & proven ability of key staff prior to appointment.. 2019: Local leadership begins. The desired outcome for a successful community development program.. Educational sponsorships from primary to university level.
