• Over time, it gets easier
Why Healthy Coping?

• In order for us, as providers, to do our jobs we need to know how to deal with stress
• You must have ongoing communications with your supervisor, not just during stressful situations ▫ Individual, group supervision, and team meetings▫ Case conferencing▫ Mentoring
Lack of Healthy Coping Skills
• What could happen if we lack healthy coping skills?
▫ We can experience burnout
▫ We are not able to do our job (poor performance)
▫ Unhealthy relationships at work
▫ Co-workers have to pick up the slack (resentment)
▫ Clients do not receive appropriate services
Healthy Coping
• Good coping skills can include;
▫ Meditation & Relaxation Techniques
▫ Time to yourself
▫ Physical Activity
▫ Reading
▫ Humor
Foundation & Background
• The concept of Hierarchy of Needs was first introduced by American Psychologist Abraham Maslow in a 1943 paper “A Theory of Human Motivation”
• This hierarchy suggests that people are motivated to fulfill basic needs before moving on to other, more advanced needs.
• This hierarchy is most often displayed as a pyramid.
