II. Background of the University. Delhi Technological University (DTU), has been established by the Government of Delhi through Delhi Act 6 of 2009 by transforming Delhi College of Engineering (DCE), into a Technological University, to excel along the pathways of world quality education, research and innovations and to foster creation of knowledge and research power, so important today in the new knowledge age to empower India with the wings of knowledge and the power of innovations for its rapidly growing knowledge economy. DCE was established by the then Government of India in 1941 as one of the model institutions in engineering and technology in the North India. At that time the Thomson College of Engineering (later became University of Roorkee) was the only other institution offering degree programmes in engineering and technology in this part of the country. DCE true to its vision of the founding fathers has made a profound contribution to the growth of quality technical education in the country. It is a matter of pride that the DCE has an illustrious history of quality education and research and had the privilege of being the mother of the prestigious IIT-Delhi, School of Planning and Architecture, College of Art, College of Pharmacy. Even, the famous Faculty of Management Studies of Delhi University was founded by a former professor of Delhi College of Engineering, namely, Prof. A. Das Gupta.

The University has earned a high repute and international recognition for a

number of innovations which include Most Innovative Design Award for Unmanned Arial Vehicle by AUVSI at Georgia (US), Director’s Award for Unmanned Aircraft System at Maryland (US), Best Aerodynamic Award for the Supermileage Vehicle at Michigan (US), the FISITA Award for Best Design Endeavour for the Formula Student Car in SAE International Competition in UK, Best Initial Design Award for the Moonbuggy at NASA Moonbuggy Competition in US, First Prize in Student Category for the Hybrid Vehicle in New Wark (US) and the Most Improved Design Award for the Robotic Submarine at San Diego (US). The DTU Solar Car flagged off by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Delhi also participated in the World Solar Challenge held in Australia this year in October, 2011. Further, the design and development of Lockheed Martin sponsored New Generation Unmanned Aircraft System has also been successfully completed. The DTU has successfully percolated the research and innovation culture right from Under Graduate levels onwards and has taken major initiatives to create a seamless environment for synergy between science and engineering. Some of the recent innovations pursued at DTU include improving Solar Cell Efficiency, Development of Organic Solar Cell, Low-Cost Water Treatment for Rural Applications, Design and Development of Biodiesel Reactors, Development of Biodegradable Polymers and Cycle Operated Eco-Friendly Washing Machine “Dhobi” which has been awarded First Prize at the recently held CII Collegiate Innovation Fair at Pragati Maidan in February 2011. A solar operated Rickshaw Goods Career is also developed recently. The focus in DTU is on empowering young budding engineers and technocrats with the Wings of Knowledge and Power of Innovations with which they shall take the flights of success, paint the canvas of tomorrow’s science and technologies and serve the society with utmost devotion and unclenching faith in professional morality and work ethics.

Success Sixers (06 students) of Final Year DTU have received job offers for

highest salary of Rs. 60 lakhs per annum from EPIC in October, 2012.

Mail Today Bureau New Delhi, Saturday, September 29, 2012 | 04:56 IST Six students of the Delhi Technological University (DTU) have been offered an annual pay package of Rs 60 lakh by a US based software company in the ongoing campus recruitments. Three students of software engineering, Tanuj Mittal, Neha Das and Sumit Dugar, two students from the department of computer engineering, Akash Bansal and Miland Kumar, and one student of information technology, Meenal Bansal, have received the offer. "I was expecting to be offered anything close to Rs. 10 lakh. But this offer came as a huge surprise," said 22-yearold Dugar, who plans to join work next October after graduating in June. "I always wanted to be an engineer. I wanted to develop software related to healthcare and also to help people in their day-to-day problem. This job is a dream come true for me," he added. According to DTU officials, this is the highest-ever salary package offered to any DTU student so far. The highest annual package last year was Rs 58 lakh. Mittal, who has been offered the profile of a software developer, will be based in Madison in Wisconsin city. "We had to go through two writ ten tests and telephonic inter views twice. I was not expecting it, but I always wanted to go abroad and work," he said. All the students who have received the offer of Rs 60 lakh will be based in the US. The company that has hired them, EPIC, had offered Rs 45 lakh annually last year. Ruchika Malhotra, assistant professor in the department of software engineering, added that the university are expecting the highest offer to go up further. "The placement drive started on August 1 and 46 companies have visited the campus so far. The salary package is likely to go up further. In fact , DTU had started a BTech course in software engineering only in 2009. Our students are being placed in international companies of high repute," Malhotra said. Four students have also been offered an annual package of Rs 20 lakh each by a Mumbai-based company. This year, even third-year students have been offered paid internships . "DTU has a strong focus on industry relevance for its educational and research programs. The phenomenal rise in campus placements truly reflects the faith of world-class industries in DT U," said Professor P.B. Sharma, the vice-chancellor.
