Design has been a passion of mine before I even realized it had a name. My interest in the field draws from a variety of sources and I have never been one to overlook the details. I am excited to be living and working in a time where the need for function and the ability to innovate are accelerating parallel to one another, especially in the world of design.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America Springfi eld, OR | Winter 2012

In this studio, Architecture + Interior Architecture students worked side by side to create a Boys & Girls Club in Springfi eld, Oregon. Interiors students crafted 4 thematic programs for the group to base their projects on, which made for quite a range of fi nished work. As an interiors student I focused on preserving the original building’s footprint and found ways to manipulate the very regular structure into an interesting 2D + 3D composition using Piet Mondrian’s famous Broadway Boogie Woogie (1943) as a parti, or template of sorts.

Based on the famous “Powers of 10” short video by Charles and Ray Eames, I chose to scale my 5 collages by age; 3-6-9-15-18 from top to bottom

Working Drawings Studio: Crafty Wonderland Renovation Eugene, OR | Spring 2012

This is the technical studio for UO Interior Architecture students. The studio’s focus was less on design and more on details, and specifi cally how to draw them correctly for a set of working drawings. We were given a small retail space meant to house a wide variety of handcrafted goods as well as provide a space for demonstrations and classes. Much of our focus was dedicated to the main entrance/front façade, the built-in cashwrap, and the new addition of an ADA bathroom.

Furniture Studio: Persistent TablesEugene, OR | Fall 2012

For this studio we were asked to design a table based on/inspired by three persistent furniture types; nesting tables, tray tables, and guéridon tables. I was initially drawn to the last group because of their embellished aesthetic and highly mobile nature as most of the examples we saw had handles or wheels. I quickly became fi xed on the idea of motion and chose to highlight this feature rather than conceal it. The scale of the wheels then informed the overall shape of the bentwood body, and after plenty of trials and tribulations (aka learning experiences) olio was born.
