Hong Kong Arts Festival is an annual festival in Hong Kong, mainly focuses on four stage performances: drama, dance, opera and theatre. The Chinese word, 藝 (Arts) was written in Chinese calligraphy as the display type, giving a traditional yet vivid movement on the poster.

There is a lot of hidden beauty around us but many people neglect them. When we would like to spend some time to focus more on them, we will discover that more hidden features that can be a source of visual pleasure.

Many people think plants attractive, especially the reproductive part (flower) can brighten the living rooms. However, I think each type of plant has its own special design. I have chosen the bark of the tree trunk as the main topic in the project as we may neglect the attractiveness of the pattern and texture of it. I illustrated a part of the bark from an actual size to a scale of 1:10 and printed on a big poster by screenprinting technique. And a small booklet is made to illustrate my project idea.

Kings Hill is located in the borough of tonbridge and malling in Kent, South East of United Kingdom. It is a home to international and local residents and a place for providing employment opportunities for business.

The main focus on the branding project is to create the identity of Kings Hill by unifying the signages of Kings Hill in a set of color scheme, typeface and graphic forms. By a night experience of exploring Kings Hill alone, I lost my way due to the dark environment, so I came up with an idea of a digital signage design which projected the signages on LCD light board. To make it more interesting, the signage is animated with simple movement of the icons.

BAD (Behind Adults Dream) comic exhibition is a comic exhibition held by four comic publishers in Seoul, Quang, Sal, BOGO and Comic Sauna. The exhibition opens for public from 11 Sept 2014 to 2 Nov 2014 in Seoul Comic Space, Zaemirang, showing the imagination inside the comic books created from a group of young comic artists to the public.

I was majorly responsible for the logo design, sketching ideas and layout design for the poster booklet and the wallpaper design inside the exhibition area.

This is a cooperative project of Hong Kong Film Archive and the School of Design, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The project is an exhibition design about the architectural development of Hong Kong old cinemas. The type design is the main visual identity for this project which is inspired from the hand-writing typography (Mei Shu Zi) in the old Hong Kong movie posters.

From the analysis of the display type used in old Hong Kong movie posters, I found that the type has a very thick outline and dark shadow to stand out the movie title. I really appreciate the aesthetic of these visual elements, so I took these elements as an inspiration. As the exhibition is more related to the architecture and design of old cinema building, so I used geometrical form with sharp edge in the type design. The type was set to be wider to give an architectural touch to it.

Ten days - Social Innovation Festival 2013 is a festival held by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University with the collaboration with Hong Kong Jockey Club in the new building, Innovation Tower from 27 Sept - 6 Oct. This festival lasts 10 days which aims to promote the concept of innovation in daily life to the community through workshops, talks, exhibitions and other activities.

The concept of the logo is the Chinese word 十日 (ten days) with the number 10 merged together. Besides, we have an idea for the visual identity is +日, which means plus a day / additional day, encouraging visitors to apply additional knowledge day by day.

I was mainly responsible for the visual identity, the typography design and the program booklet. I also got involved in the sketching, brain-storming idea and layouts for the poster and banner.

“The 13 Streets”, a traditional old district in Ma Tau Kok, have been long known for the clustering of garage business and the 11 vertical streets. This series of art pieces adopted the elements of the 13 streets, car components, using the method of cyanotype to introduce the 11 kinds of lucky animals in Chinese custom represented by the street names. The work aims to capture the unique characteristics of the district, at the outlook of urban re-establishment in the future.

[ I used to love objects in blue color, but not this time. ]

A type series of 18 letters created for Umbrella Revolution in Hong Kong by selecting different objects relevant to this revolution.

I discovered that most of the artworks in different occupied protest sites are in Tradition Chinese. For each object, I typed a short caption in English about what I saw and happened in this revolution time. Poster, postcard and zine are printed to post in the occupied sites and distributed to the public, hoping more people know what is happening in Hong Kong.

During Umbrella Revolution in Hong Kong, part of the streets in Mongkok, Admiralty and Causeway Bay were occupied by the protester as a protest sites. We could see a lot of artworks, posters everywhere in these sites. "e posters I designed also posted there with English caption to let foreigners know more about Umbrella Revolution.

This is a lettering design for a Korean comic book titled (God in a Dream). The story is about escaping

from the real life by living in a virtual world created in a digital video game. The player can choose and decide their future in the game.

The contrast of black and white, abstract and structural strokes in the lettering design shows the contrast of the real and the virtual world. The abstract form of the type gives a dreamy feeling while the detail of the structural strokes create a digital, organised touch in the design.

In local newspapers, the use of language in different types of news is different. Some sections use formal language for serious local and international news, while others may use informal language, for example, entertainment and sports. However, different kinds of typefaces are used in the headlines for these sections, and they are not consistent in the same newspaper, creating a fragmented visual language throughout the paper.

Hong Kong Headline Type is a typeface family suitable for the headlines in local newsapapers. It provides a unified visual language in the headlines in the same newspaper but have variations in the tone of voice. It is bold and condensed and thus a space-saving typeface. Based on three degrees of formality, three stylistic variants are designed for formal and informal language in Hong Kong.

"e user is asked to #ll in the detail included the name of the contributor, the word or phrase, the de#nition, sample sentence and origin. "e user is also asked to selcet the parts of speech, sentece, category and property of the slang which helps to categorize the slangs for easy seaching of other users.

Píng Ti&n Ti is a typeface inspired from the tower crane, a mechanical machine for building use. It is designed to project the beauty of geometry and angles between straight lines of the tower crane. After observation, development and adjustments of the strokes and parts, 100 Chinese words were created. A maunal booklet was made for the introduction of the type from research, development, design and application.

This is a bilingual book design project for the story, The Painted Skin from Strange Tale of Liao Zhao. It is a traditional Chinese ghost story about a ghost used human’s skin to create a beautiful face to meet a boy she likes. Though it is a scary ghost story, it is initiated with love.

Design concept I selected a very light paper with a skin-like texture on it, trying to give more feeling about the skin of the ghost to the readers when they touch the papers. "e English words and Chinese words are translated directly on every single page. "e color of the bottom part of the text are faded to give a light feeling of the soul of the ghost.

Design concept I used butter paper and immersed them into water after printing for the second version, so it became crinkle after drying. "e sound created when the reader %ips through the pages made it a more unusual reading experience to the readers.
