Project UpdateDOTandNYCTareworkinghardtobringSBStoNostrandandRogersAvenues.Thisincludes:
Merchant SurveysOver1,500businessesalongNostrand,Rogers,andBedfordAvenuesarebeingaskedtocompleteasurveyabouttheirloadingandparkingneedsbytheendofJuly2011.ThisinformationwillguideDOTinimprovingcurbregulationsinordertodiscouragedouble-parking.
Meetings with the Community Advisory Committee (CAC), Community Boards and the public to:• ReviewthelocationsofSBSstations
• Describeexistingandprojectedtrafficconditions
• Describeoptionsbeingconsideredtoreducecongestionandimprovetrafficflow
Final Design of SBS StationsDOT,NYCT,andtheDepartmentofDesignandConstructionareintheprocessofdesigningSBSstations.Thedesignincludes:
• Bus Bulbs: SidewalksatSBSstationswillextendouttothebuslane.Buseswillnotneedtopullinandoutoftraffic.HighercurbsontheSBSplatformwillallowforeasierboarding.
• Fare Collection Machines:CustomerspaytheirfareattheSBSstopbeforetheyboard,shorteningthetimethatbusesarestopped.
• New Bus Shelters
• Local Bus StopsonthesameblockasSBSstops

SBShasalreadybeenimplementedontheBx12routeintheBronx(2008)andtheM15routeonFirstandSecondAvenuesinManhattan(2010).SBSontheBx12andtheM15hasprovidedsignificantbenefits:
• 15%to20%fastertrips
• 33%reductionintimespentatbusstops
• 10%reductioninallothertraveltime
• Over90%customersatisfaction
• 10%ridershipincreaseontheentireroute,includingSBSandlocal
DOTandNYCThopetoachievesimilarresultsonNostrandandRogersAvenues.
