Time ZonesTimes Zones allow the User to set up 16 different

time slots in a CAT and 8 time slots in a TEC unit. EachTime Zone is a separate continuous time slot. The samplezones are configured as shown on the Time Zone table.Zone 0 shows a time zone starting at 7 am to 6 pm Mondaythrough Friday. This would be typical of a factory build-ing open times.Time Slots must end at midnight. To set upa Group that has access through midnight, you must usetwo Time Zones as shown in the example as Time Zone 3and Time Zone 4. The days of the week may be chosen foreach Time Zone by ‘Checking’ each day you wish to use.‘Check the box again removes the selection. The Holidaysbox will allow access on the nine dates (16 Date in a CATUnit) entered on the form. In the examples, Time ZoneOne allows access from 6 am through 6 pm, Mondaythrough Friday. Time Zone Two allows access from 6 amthrough 6 pm, Saturday, Sunday and Holidays. TimeZone Six allows access from 7:45 am through 8:15 am,Monday through Friday. and Time Zone Seven allows ac-cess from 4:45 pm through 5:15 pm, Monday through Fri-day. This could be typical of busy times at a Gate entranceand exit.

Access LevelsAccess Levels are used to attach Time Zones to spe-

cific Entrances. In the examples, the Access Levels Zero isassigned to One, Two, Three and Five. Access Level Fiveis assigned to Entrance Two and Six , uses Time Zone Five(8:40 am through 5:20 pm). Access Level Six is assignedto Entrance One and Seven, uses Time Zone Six (7:45 amthrough 8:15 am). Access Level Seven is assigned to En-trance One and Eight, uses Time Zone Seven (4:45 pmthrough 5:15 pm).

Access GroupsAccess Groups are used to allow groups of individ-

uals card or PIN access by assigning a level or combinationof levels to their group. Access Group Zero is predefinedas an unlimited group. Group Zero allows access 24 hours aday, ALL days of the year. Access Groups are assigned tothe individuals in the Directory. If you do not assign aGroup to an individual during the directory entry, Zero (0)is assigned by default. The examples provided show only a few ways to combinelevels into a group to allow specific access to certain indi-viduals. For example in Group Six, Access Levels Zero (0)and One (1) could be selected to allow a group to have ac-cess seven days a week, 7:00 am to 6:00 pm Mon. - Fri. and6:00 am to 6:00 pm Sat, Sun and Holidays and using all en-trances as selected.

HolidaysSixteen Holidays may be entered in a CAT Multi

Door. Up to Nine Holidays may be entered in a TEC Serieswith a clock and access control. They are entered as twodigits for the month, a slash, and two digits for the day(XX/XX). If a Holiday is entered and falls on a Mon -Fri,any group set with a time zone of Mon - Fri without Holi-days will not have access on the holiday. Further, anygroup using access levels with time zones without Holidayaccess will not have access on the Holiday.

Automatic Unlock and Re-lockYou may choose to automatically unlock (or open)

and re-lock (or close) any entrance (or gate) using accessgroups. The example provided shows Access Group Sevenused to open the Number One entrance once at 7:45 am to8:15 am and again at 4:45 pm to 5:15 pm. This examplemight be an employee gate that automatically opens duringthe peak traffic flow. Another example would be to useGroup Five using Level Five and Time Zone Five to keepopen the Second Entrance during normal business hours.

Selcom 2000Unit Event Log Control

Selcom 2000 presents a new simplified view of thetransaction log. All information is present and is shown ina new combined format. Selcom 2000 provides for format-ting and viewing of the Event Log Buffer information andmaintaining a single, separate log file for each unit or MUISite. Each site MUI description is placed in the log to iden-tify which unit the information is from. Sorting and filter-ing of the Log Events are available and do not alter the datain the log. You may use the Sorts & Filters to selectivelydisplay and print groups of records in the log. If your com-puter has a screen resolution higher than 640 x 480, youmay resize the Window up to the full size of your screen todisplay more data.♦ File size limited by the size of your computer storage

capacity, not by the software.♦ Larger files require more memory to improve perfor-

mance.♦ Default Sort is by date and time.♦ Sorting is allowed on any column.♦ Temporary sizing of any column is allowed.♦ Selections and sorting do not change the real data.♦ The words “CODE”,’CARD” and “PIN” are removed

from the messages for clarity.♦ Log columns separated into logical types to enhance

sorting and selecting.♦ Partial messages that result from data wrap in the buffer

are deleted.♦ Automatic update mode prevents most data repetition.

In order to insure all messages are entered, the last mes-sages with the same date and time are repeated.

Erase to date allows maintaining your log at the size anddates you desire. Larger Log files operate slower. OpenFile add function allows you to add old logs to the file ifrequired.

Error Control

Selcom 2000 uses the standard TAPI interfacewithin Windows 95/98/NT. This allows for a modem to be

installed into Windows 95and Selcom 2000 will use it.

Selcom 2000 requiresthat error control be turnedoff. We are providing thefollowing instructions toturn off error control. Inorder to assist you we haveprovided the followingsetup.

Using Start - select ‘Settings’ then ‘Control Panel’ then,if required ,

Setting your Microsoft Windows Telephone Application Programming Interface( TAPI )

Long Distance Control

Under some versions of windows, Windows 95 TAPI controls do not handle ten digit dialingand or long distance correctly. For your convenience, the local area code awareness of Windows 95is not used in Selcom 2000 even if your other programs use it.

This means you will directly control the long distance area codes. In Selcom 2000, enter (area pre-fix suffix) in the Wizard or in ‘Edit CAT / TEC Unit Data Screen. Place the correct number in theUnit Phone: window. Example for 10 digit local calling: ‘3055551212’. Place any special prefixand all the numbers necessary and Selcom 2000 TAPI will dial it exactly for you. This feature al-lows for 10 digit local calling, same area code long distance calling as well as special carrier longdistance calling as in (1010321,13975551212). Selcom 2000 allows for 32 digits to be placed intothe called number. Spaces, Parentheses and Dashes are not required and not allowed.

Get Data from TEC Unit

1 Selcom 2000 provides a choice selection screen tochoose the information you GET from the CAT / TECUnit. During transmission the screen reports ConnectionProgress, error correction, record numbers, elapsed timeand other information. The ID and Firmware version ofthe unit is checked to insure the proper unit answered. Choosing ‘Get All’ will get the configuration, directoryand the log from the unit. You may choose to get each itemindividually. Getting the Log will cause the system to dis-connect from the unit after getting the log, to enable the filesorting system to function automatically. The MUI Sleepbox allows you to disable the unit sleep function when re-quired and will only appear if selected during setup.

The Four Entrance screen shows the addition informationprovided. The system re-configures its settings to matchthe unit during the GET DATA process. This includes Unitcapacities, number of reader capacity (even if none are in-stalled), and number of names to get from or send to theunit.

Caution:

When “Get Directory” or “Get All” is used, theitems in the Selcom 2000 directory are updated. The direc-tory in Selcom 2000 is NOT erased. Any codes in Selcom2000 and NOT in the Unit remain. A warning messagewould occur prior to getting the data telling the user thatupdates exist and may be lost. If these were codes to ADDin an update, the update flag on the code or codes to updatewould NOT be cleared. If these were codes to CHANGE inan update, the update flag on the name or names to updateWOULD be cleared and the data would RETURN to whatwas in the unit.

Get Features are inactive inDemo Version of software

Send Data to TEC Unit

Selcom 2000 provides a choice selection screen tochoose the information you SEND to the CAT / TEC Unit.During transmission the screen reports ConnectionProgress, error correction, record numbers, elapsed timeand other information. The system re-configures its set-tings to match the unit during the SEND DATA process. The ID and Firmware version of the unit is checked to in-sure the proper unit answered.Choosing ‘Send All’ will send the Unit configuration andALL of the directory data to the unit. You may choose tosend each item individually. When you send All or sendDirectory, the items marked for Delete will be completelydeleted.

NewSending Updates will cause the system to send new andchanged directory items only, then automatically discon-nect, providing for a shorter connection time. Selcom 2000allows you to mark names for deletion and they will bedeleted during an update. However, older units, as in TECUnits with 3.0x and 3.1x firmware, the code number cannotbe erased in update mode but can be reused at anytime.

You also have the option of changing the Unit password asyou send the configuration to the Unit. After completingthe change, the system enters the new password into the fileautomatically. Do not change passwords while using theMUI functions as the password will change before connect-ing to the next unit.

The Multiple Unit Function area allows the operatorto disable the unit clear updates, disable the sleep functionwhen required and will only appear if MUI functions areselected during setup. See Page 27 for more detail.

Caution:

When ‘Send Directory” or “Send All” is used, thedirectory items in the unit are replaced. Any codes in Unit

Send Features are inactive inDemo Version of software

and not in Selcom 2000 are removed.“Send Updates” send only the codesmarked for update. The directory inthe unit is not erased. Any codesmarked for update are changed oradded.

The Multiple Unit function allows for the use of several units con-nected to one phone number and or the use of the same directory inmore than one unit. The operator controls specific features usedwith Multiple Unit sites in order to send the correct data.. The fea-tures are clearing delete and update flags in the software after send-ing the information and putting the unit to sleep so another unit mayanswer. The sleep function only lasts two minutes between calls. You must be ready to make the next call, or you will have tostart over. The features used will depend on the actual physicalconfiguration . The Multiple Unit function will only work reli-ably with the CAT Multi Door and TEC firmware versionsgreater than Version 3.10. If you units have firmware markedVer 3.03 or before, please consult factory. These features will work with four variations of unit setups.

(Variation 1)Unit connected on one phone line with one directory. Thiswould be a standard unit. There is only one unit connected andonly one unit uses the directory. Un-Check Multi Unit.In the unit, set the ring count to any number desired. Two or threeis recommended. The software will not allow you to send or getdata from the unit if the Unit ID is incorrect.

ExampleFor a site with one unit, we suggest setting the unit to two rings(TEC units refer to this as Ring Count, CAT units refer to this asUnit ID). Consult the technical manual for instructions on using aterminal to make these adjustments.Once the ring count are set, in the Selcom software, Select the unitto be used for the Send. Go to File - Edit CAT / TEC Unit Data.Un-Check Multi-unit. Enter the number of units (In our examplethis is one) in the No. of Units on MUI window. This sets the soft-ware to call one unit and reset the directory updates on the call. Theoptions screen MUI Unit ID’s are not used. The chosen name willNOT appear in the log data. The Select Unit name for your unit isused in the Log. It is not necessary to change any unit’s settings inthe option screen that you are not using.

Do’s and Do not’s1 Do use ring count or Unit ID of two or more. Do not use a ring

count of one (1).2 Do not check the MUI function in Edit TEC/CAT Unit Data.

(Variation 2)Units connected together on one phone line with the same direc-

tory. Recommended limit is four(4),Select the Multi Unit function in Edit TEC/CAT Unit Data.Indicate the number of units to send the same directory or updates to(2,3 or 4).In each unit, set the separate ring counts. Consult the technical man-ual for instructions on using a terminal to make these adjustments.

ExampleFor a site with three units, we suggest setting one unit to two rings, the second unit to four rings and the last unit to six rings (TEC unitsrefer to this as Ring Count, CAT units refer to this as Unit ID). Con-sult the technical manual for instructions on using a terminal to makethese adjustments.Once the ring counts are set, in the Selcom software, Select the unitto be used for the Send. Go to File - Edit CAT / TEC Unit Data.Check Multi-unit. Enter the number of units (In our example this isthree) in the No. of Units on MUI window. This sets the software tocall three units and reset the directory updates on the third call. Go tothe options screen and set the MUI Unit ID’s to match your unit set-tings. Set the top selection to match your first unit (the unit with thelowest ring count or unit id.) and your second unit next with yourthird unit next. You may rename each unit, if you wish and your cho-sen name will appear in the log data. It is not necessary to changeany additional unit’s settings in the option screen that you are not us-ing. The software will not allow you to send or get data from theunit if the Unit ID is incorrect.

When the site is called, system will call the first of the unitsindicated in the Edit CAT / TEC Unit Data Screen one at a time. Ifyou are sending All or the directory or directory updates, a special se-quence is followed:1 The first (the one with the lowest ring count) unit is called

first. The ID of the unit is checked to insure the proper unit an-swered.

2 This unit (and each following) will be put to sleep at the end ofeach transmittal to allow the next unit to answer. The update flagis not cleared for directory updates until the last unit is sent or ifthe clear updates box is checked.

3 A Count-Down window is visible on the Main Screen showingthe units remaining to be called.

4 Repeat the Send command for each unit. Only the first buttonselected is allowed on subsequent calls. After the last unit is fin-ished, the software will return to the main screen To obtain theLog information from units, create separate MUI Identification

names in the option screen (See page 20) using different names for each unit . This MUI Identifica-tion will be placed in the log. When getting the logs from MUI sites, the auto skip date feature isblocked. If the log is not deleted in the software before the Get, or in the units after the Get, datawill be repeated. If you desire to check the contents of the individual directories, it is recommendedto used variation 2 to check the contents as a single directory will not show you any differences.

Do’s and Do not’s1 Do keep ring counts separated by two (2,4,6,8). CAT Multi Door Systems may be set one count

apart depending on conditions.2 Do not use a ring count of one (1) on any unit except a CAT Unit.3 Do keep a list of the order of units to call.4 Do not wait more than 1½ minutes between calls as the sleep function in the units will end. Sel-

com 2000 will stop and give you a message if the Unit Id does not match the expected number.

(Variation 3)Units connected together on one phone line with the different directories (using different unitnames for each unit). Recommended limit is four(4).Create separate sites for each of the units. Label each unit clearly (perhaps by location?)Select Multi Unit on each of the units.Indicate the number of units to send as one (1) on all of the units.Use a different Unit ID (or Ring Count) for each of the units.

ExampleWhen the site is called, system will set to call the number of units indicated in the Edit CAT / TECUnit Data Screen. that is why it is important to set each site to one. This will tell the software to clearupdates, but put the unit to sleep. If you are sending All or the directory or directory updates, a specialsequence is followed:1 The first (the one with the lowest ID) unit is called first. The ID of the unit is checked to insure the

proper unit answered.2 This unit (and each following) will be put to sleep at the end of each transmittal to allow the next

unit to answer. The update flag is cleared for directory updates when the number of units on MUIis set to one. This is automatically set when the current unit becomes the last to send to.

3 Select each unit in turn and repeat the Send command for each unit.4 Getting all information from the units is allowed as the files used are separate. To obtain the infor-

mation from units, select each unit in turn and perform the upload or download function desired.5 The system will automatically put each unit to sleep unless the No Sleep selection is made.

(Variation 4)Units connected on different phone lines with the same directory. There is no recommended limit, but care must be taken to insure all units are updated with new data.In each unit, select Multi Unit. Indicate the number of units to send the same directory or updates to (2).In each unit, set each unit’s ring count or Unit ID to the same setting.

ExampleFor a site like this, we suggest setting to two rings, (TEC units refer to this as Ring Count, CAT unitsrefer to this as Unit ID). Consult the technical manual for instructions on using a terminal to makethese adjustments.Once the ring counts or Unit ID’s are set, in the Selcom software, Select the unit to be used for theSend. Go to File - Edit CAT / TEC Unit Data. Check Multi-unit. Enter the number of units (In ourexample as well as any site of this type, this is two) in the No. of Units on MUI window. Note the filename in Data Name Window. This sets the software to call two units and reset the directory updateson the second call. Go to the options screen and set the MUI Unit ID’s to match your unit settings ( inthis case all units to 2). Set the top selection to match all units (the unit with the lowest ring count orunit id.). Using the Add Unit Wizard, set up each of the additional units including the proper phonenumber. Set each unit to a MUI site and number of units to 2. Enter the file name in the Data NameWindow from the first Unit. This will make this unit use the first units directory.

When each site is called, system will call the indicated unit in the Edit CAT / TEC Unit DataScreen one at a time using the Directory file entered in the Edit CAT/TEC Unit data screen. If you aresending All or the directory or directory updates, a special sequence is followed:1 On the Main Screen select the first unit. The first (the primary) unit is called first. The ID of the

unit is checked to insure the proper unit answered. Note: All units Must have the same ID.2 This unit (and each following) will be sent the same directory. The update flag is not cleared for

directory updates until the clear updates box is checked. This Flag allows you to send just theupdates to the units to save time. You may send Directory when you wish to make sure ALL data isin the unit.

3 After the call is completed, abort the second call, and go to the Main Screen and Select the secondunit. Each time you Select anther unit to give the same directory to, repeat the Send command foreach unit. When you send to the final unit you may select No Sleep as this will clear theupdate flags in the directory file on the last call. To obtain the configuration and log informationfrom units, create more separate units (See page 20) using different names for each unit . Thesenames will be placed in each individual log. If you desire to check the contents of the individualdirectories, it is recommended to used these separate files to check the contents as a singledirectory may not show you any differences. If you are concerned that the individual units do nothave the same information, sending the complete directory erases the units contents and replaces itwith the computer file you send.

Do’s and Do not’s1 Do use the same ring count2 Do not use a ring count of one (1).3 Do keep a list of the order and names of units to call.4 Do check MUI and set number of units on directory to 2.

Helpful HintsSelcom 2000 is designed to use the SMALL(Normal Size) font selection in the ControlPanel - Display - Settings - Font Size. Choosing Large fonts will cause some wording notto be displayed correctly.

GeneralThe [TAB] key [forward] and [Shift Tab] key [backwards] also moves from text window totext window. The [Enter] key behaves like the [TAB] key as well. The minimum computer specified will operate correctly when Selcom 2000 is the onlyrunning. Larger computers with more memory will operate faster . Other programs shouldbe exited first.

Data FilesData files and the backups are compatible with Microsoft Access Version 7.0 or higherand may be used to generate reports from the data if desired. Do not convert your dataor add, subtract or rename any fields with the Access Data Manager as it will cause prob-lems with Selcom 2000 later.

Remote Data StorageIf you wish to archive your data and/or backup data in another location, copy the files inyour Selcom directory. If you did a standard install, the files are inC:\Program Files\Selcom 2000\*.mdb . The backup files are inC:\Program Files\Selcom 2000\Backup\*.md*. Make a copy these files to a location ofyour choice.

Version NumberWhen talking to tech support, your serial number and the version number(shown on theHelp - About menu selection) is very important. The Unit Firmware version is displayed inthe “Edit CAT / TEC Unit Data” screen. Check them before you call.

DirectoryRefresh retrieves a new copy from the disk and resets the records to the name order.Selecting a name to edit automatically sets the record to be sent to the unit on the nextupdate. To print a partial Directory, sort by the type of request, then use the elevator bar to viewwhat you want to print and press "Print View".
