Kookaburra Chronicles
The most exciting news last term was the construction of the wall in the Indonesian room/library.
This has made such a difference to the feel of the space and I’m sure classes visiting the library
will find it much quieter also!
I am also very excited about an incursion on Wednesday 30 October by the Suara Indonesia
Dance Company. Thanks to the generosity of SPPS P&C all students from Pre-Primary to Year 5 (Year 6’s will be on camp) will experience this amazing cultural experience of a Performance Workshop.
Last term, the Year 1’s and 2’s learned about animals and pets, combining their knowledge on
colours and numbers using two well-known children’s books, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and
Brown Bear, Brown Bear. The Year 2’s made animal masks and sang along to Old
MacDonald in Indonesian to finish off the term.
The Year 3 classes finished off the term by drawing
and writing up a Wanted/Di Cari poster for a bank rob-
ber. This was the culmination of learning about the
Ogoh Ogoh celebrations in Bali, bringing in body parts
and describing words.
The Year 4 children studied a unit of work on Sekolah/
School. This incorporated school stationery, daily
routines and names of furniture and school buildings.
School Holidays/Liburan Sekolah was the topic for the Year 5’s and 6’s and something that was
on everybody’s minds at the end of the term!
I hope everyone has a great Term 4. We will be getting ready for the Indonesian Assembly
towards the end of the year – a great way to finish off the year!!
Salam hangat - Ibu Ridout

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Term 4
Welcome back to school for Term 4. It promises to be another exceptional term with staff and students well set and primed for what will be the best Term 4 ever. I would like to thank all of our students for the exceptionally warm welcome back to school they’ve all given me. I often note how overwhelming our students’ positivity, enthusiasm and energy is and I thank all of our students for the unique energy that they collectively bring to school every day. This energy is what makes South Padbury such a special place to work and learn and I for one appreciate having the opportunity to come in here and work every day.
Camp
I will be attending the annual camp throughout Week 3 of Term 4 and Mr Jones will be in charge of the school in my absence. I’m so looking forward to spending this special week with the Year 6 students and teachers. Mrs Butterly, Miss Booker, Mrs Kemp and Mrs Bishop will also be attending the camp with me. The camp will be an acknowledgement and reward for the students’ behaviour, attitude and application while at South Padbury.
2020
The classroom teaching line-up for 2020 will be Mrs Race, Mrs Gray and Mrs Staines (1 day a week) in Kindergarten, Mrs Perrie/Mrs Standish, Mrs Rossi/Mrs White in Pre-Primary, Mrs Nowers and Miss Peters in Year 1, Mrs Wasley and Mrs Jones in Year 2, Mr Barnett and Miss Bird in Year 3, Mrs Butterly/Mrs Williamson-Spray and Miss Booker in Year 4, Mr Simmonds and Mrs Tye in Year 5 and Mrs Knox and Mrs Williams in Year 6.
In the specialist areas Mrs Wiener will teach Phys-ed, Mrs Pollard Music, Mrs Ridout Indonesian and Health, Miss Donnelly will run the extension program and Mrs Gilchrist will continue with the Health program.
Once the Education Assistants positions are set in stone, I’ll publish these.
I’m confident that the 2020 line-up is an exceptional one that will deliver optimum educational, social and emotional outcomes for all of our students. Notable changes are Miss Peters joining the team from Halls Creek District High School, Mrs Williamson-Spray joining Mrs Butterly and Miss Booker in Year 4 and of course Mrs Knox and Mrs Williams making the big move from Year 4 up to Year 6.
As last year, teachers will be making the class lists for 2020. Should you have any specific requests, please contact your child’s 2019 teacher directly, and they will take your request into consideration when putting the classes together.

Edu-Dance From Term 3
Edu-Dance has become a
very popular event here
at South Padbury.
We have a positive
participation from our
students who seem to
relish the opportunity to
show off their moves after
lots of practicing.
There was a lot of colour,
noise and energy as each
class performed their
dance.
This year we needed to
have 2 concerts to
comfortably fit everyone
in, which no doubt made
it a much more viewer
friendly event for our
audience.
Thank you to Laura from
Edu-Dance for all her
hard work training each
class.
Also a very big thank you
to our wonderful P&C for
their very generous
support in once again
subsidising this activity for
our students.
Edu-Dance Rocks!
