SEISMIC ENGINEERING RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURES FOR EUROPEAN SYNERGIES
SERIES LNEC Training Course, Lisbon, 23 September 2 012
2. Hands-on application
SummaryThe 15WCEE Blind Test Challenge is a blind prediction competition in which competing teams are invited to predict the nonlinear seismic behaviour of two reinforced concrete structures
• Geometrically identical, designed for low and high ductility levels according to the EC8 provisions.
• Predictions provided by each team will be assessed based on the results obtained with full-scale structures that will be tested during the 15WCEE on the LNEC -ST.
• RMS error values between the experimentally achieved (on the physical models) and the numerically predicted relative displacements, for two
selected control points, will be used for classification purposes.

Description of the physical models• RC models A and B are 3D frame
structures with four columns, four beams and ½ slab.
• Nine additional masses ≈1 200 kg on top of the slab.
Materials• Concrete C25/30 (fck = 25 MPa; fctk, 0,05 1,8 MPa; fctk, 0,95 3,3 MPa)
• Steel S500 (fyk = 500 MPa)

Drive motions for 4 intensity levels• Calibration specimen built to obtain
shaking table drive motions.
• 4 intensity levels of drive motions (LOW - 20% of the reference level; MED - 70%
of the reference level; REF - 100% of the reference level and HIGH - 200% of the reference level)

Rules of the challenge• Teams will be classified based on the RMS error
between numerical relative displacements in points A and B inthe transverse (x) and longitudinal (y) directions of the structure as compared to the measured relative displacements in the two structures.
