is Segers’ most exclusive quality of 100% long-pile cotton. Batavia is a

weave technique whose name originates from the name of a silk cloth used for

the Batavia technique.

Batavia has a special white colour and fine shine. A person who wears a Segers jacket made out of Batavia will enjoy its

comfortable, luxurious feeling.

As with all exclusive things, a Batavia jacket must be treated with respect

and care.

All of Segers’ Batavia jackets can be washed at 85°C. It is important to follow the laundry instructions carefully and if

you need to use a bleaching agent, it must be done under supervision so as not to

affect durability.

Segers’ 515 wool quality is a gabardine composed of 44/54/2% Wool/Polyester/Lycra.

The wool gives the garment a nice shine and makes it comfortable. The polyester makes the garment more durable and colour-fast and

the Lycra gives the garment some stretch. Segers’ 515 wool quality is a one-way stretch

with crosswise elasticity (the weft).

Gabardine means a tightly woven weave that is smooth on one side and has a diagonal ribbed surface on the other (right side). Gabardine is

a type of twill. See the illustration on p. 93

When you buy a garment that contains wool, it is very important to look after it properly.

Segers Fabriker AB has certified their production site according to STeP through Swerea IVF

and this makes them the first company in Sweden with the certification. Oeko-Tex STeP

stands for ”Sustainable Textile Production” and means that the production has been assessed

regarding environmantal impact, quality aspects and work place conditions.

Sweden introduced produc-er responsibility for packaging in 1994. A chef jacket’s life is long and eventful. All the “ingredients”, from cloth to buttons, have been carefully chosen so your garment will last for a long time, unaffected by its many trips between kitchen and washing machine.

The key to a successful restaurant kitchen

is to treat the chefs’ clothing like any other

basic commodity; having several sets and

using high-quality material will pay off in the

long run.

This last topic is something that Lena Reslow

is an expert on. For almost 10 years, she has

been Segers’ product manager and has en-

sured that their range of clothing has been

continually developed. Product development

is a key issue for Segers and, just as with

cooking, the quality of the raw materials is

crucial for the end result. That is why the “in-

gredients” of the garments are chosen with

the greatest care. The cloth material is the

most important factor.

“In our basic range, we often use satin-weave

or twill-weave cloth which has a mix of 65 %

polyester and 35 % cotton. This is an estab-

lished mix in the trade and it makes the cloth-

ing durable. The more polyester, the better

the garment can withstand wear and tear,”

says Lena.

The high polyester content enables the basic

range to tolerate wash temperatures of up to

85°C or the equivalent industrial wash. But

it’s not just the cloth that has to be durable.

The different features of the garment, like

the seams, are at least as important. Here,

Segers use thread that is 100% polyester.

The buttons are also important. The classic

chef jackets have stud buttons that are re-

moved before washing. Our range also has

single-breasted shirts with concealed press

stud buttons. Plastic buttons are also used

sometimes and here too, Lena and her col-

leagues have done a lot of thinking.

“We use nylon buttons for garments that

must be able to withstand industrial washing.

To prevent colour loss, we use plastic but-

tons that have been coloured all the way

through. In that way, the colour cannot wear

off, no matter how many times the item is

washed,” says Lena.

Segers’ production started in Borås in 1943.

The main office is still located here. Pro-

duction, however, has been moved abroad:

in 1995, a factory was opened in Estonia, in

2005 in the Ukraine and year, 2015, we have

inaugurated a new production plant in Pa-

kistan. Sustainable production is important

for Segers. That means, for example, that

the basic collection is OEKO-TEX® certified

which means that the materials and acces-

sories have very little or no remains of toxins

or chemicals. The certification is renewed

every year.

Lena says that in the future, we can expect

different types of cloth.

“Producing cotton is a energy-intensive pro-

cess in many ways. Certain findings indicate

that cotton production is going to peak as

early as in 2025. A future challenge will be to

find cost-efficient alternatives.”

CANVAS Strong and course cotton material in plain

weave.

FIL À FIL (sometimes written fil-a-fil or filafil, French, which

means roughly thread by thread) is a rather light cloth. It is woven using a plain weave with a mix of yarns in several, very similar shades.

This gives an irregular, mottled effect. Normally, it is the warp that creates the different shades.

DOMESTIK A sturdy plain weave cotton cloth. In recent

years, synthetic material has also been blended in, for instance, 50 % polyester.

GABARDINEA tightly woven weave that is smooth on one side and has a diagonal ribbed surface on the other (right side). Gabardine is a type of twill.

BATAVIAA weave technique of cloth that is even-sided, normally a 2/2 twill but sometimes a 3/3 twill. Batavia was originally the name of a silk cloth

made using the batavia technique.

SATINSatin weave has a high number of floats on its fabric which gives a dense, smooth and soft cloth. In warp-faced satins, the warp is seen most clearly on the right side, while in

weft satins, the weft is predominantly visible. The part of the textile that is to be most visible

is denser that the other. The shiny surface of satin is achieved by pressing cold cloth

with a hot iron.

CRINKLE A way of treating cotton cloth.

It is garment-dyed, washed and shrunk so it gets a crinkled finish.

• Dark garments may contain excess dye. Wash before use.

• Follow the washing instructions on the garment label.

• Hand-washing is not more gentle on the garment than machine washing.

• Temperatures lower than those recommended can cause colour loss.

• Do not use too much fabric softener. It causes pilling.

• Do not mix white and colour wash.

• Heavily soiled wash must not be washed with light fabrics.

• Never wash socks and wool with woven materials.

• Special stain removal is done before washing.

• Always try to remove stains while they are “fresh”.

• Do not pack the machine too full. This may cause permanent creasing.

• Never soak overnight. Run a soaking programme instead.

• Observe the highest dry tumbling temperature.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR SEGERS GAR-

MENT

When you buy a garment that contains wool, it is very important you observe

the washing instructions.

Use a detergent that is designed for woollen garments and do not use a fabric

softener. Wash the garment inside out, use the wool programme and then hang

up to dry. Always use a press cloth. This is especially important for trousers.

You should also air the garment from time to time. Use a clothes roller and brush

to freshen up the garment. Avoid spraying perfume directly on the garment.

We recommend you always store trousers hanging in their pressed creases.

Jackets, waistcoats and skirts should be hung on hangers.

Blood - Remove the stain immediately with cold water. Then wash with hot water and enzyme detergent containing perborate.

Fat - Remove immediately with acetone, petrol or methylated spirit, using a minimum of liquid.

Hand disinfectant – You can remove stains by pouring a teaspoon of citric acid in the washing machine.

Coffee - Remove with hot water and enzyme detergent containing perborate.

Ballpoint pen - Remove with methanol or methylated spirit. Rinse with water.

REPLACEMENTS & COMPLAINTS

We only accept returns/complaints/replacements through the following freight companies/methods:

Exchanges and returns

To return unwanted items, please send an email to [email protected] with information and a new

order (if replacement is requested). You need to indicate the reason for returning the garment:

- the garment don’t corresponds to your end customer’s expectations.

- your customer received a wrong delivery

- your customer wants to change size

- other

A copy of the invoice/delivery note must always accompany the return.

Segers has 30 day return policy, which means that you can return items you have ordered up to 30

days from the date you received your order, provided that the items returned are unused and are in

their original condition.

If the reason for the return is because of a manufacturing fault or a mistake form our part, we will

pay for the return delivery costs. In other cases you are liable for paying. Within three weeks, you

will receive the refund provided that the return is accepted.

If your customer wants to reclaim a product, we appreciate if you first contact us via email: lager@

segers.com with a picture, explanation of the fault, your customer number and order number. This

is to avoid the return of an item that may not be an approved reclaim, and it saves the environment

and a possible refund to you will be faster. Upon receipt of the reclaimed product (we only treat

washed garments), you as a dealer will get an email from us in which we confirm that we have

received the reclaim. When the reclaim is approved Segers will pay for the return.

Segers will resolve the reclamations with you (the retailer). All contact with the end-user goes

through the dealer.
