DenizTemiz Assosiation/TURMEPA

DenizTemiz Association/ TURMEPA is a civil society movement founded by Rahmi M. Ko

and the Shipping Chamber of Commerce on April 8, 1994 with the objective of making the

protection of our coasts and seas a national priority and creating a legacy of a sustainable

Turkey for future generations.

Carrying out its projects, TURMEPA has become a remarkable and reputable NGO both in

national and international areas during and has become an only marine-focused organization

in Turkey during 17 years.

TURMEPA was launched with its 29 members and today 350 of 1000 members are

corporations. From Hopa to skenderun including the islands, Turkey has an 8.333 km long

coastline. Through the coastline, there are 9 branch/representative offices. The head office

is in Istanbul.

TURMEPA received endorsement as an association on 19 June 2000 by the Council of

Ministers.

In 1995, the association has published The Protection of the Seas Declaration and with this

it has taken support by the international organizations such as US Environmental Protection

Agency, IMO, The Club of Rome, ICS and IUCN. Moreover, it was awarded in 2011 by the ISO

14001 certification, which is known as Environment Management Systems Certificate in theinternational platform.

MISSION TURMEPA's mission is to contribute to the preservation of seas

and coasts as a national priority and to create a country that has

and execution of national and international laws and treaties forthe protection of seas and coasts.

MASMAVIMARINE TRAINING CAMP

What is this Marine Training Camp?

TURMEPA/MARINE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION is targeting to educate primary school

students via university student volunteers to give knowledge for the protection of sea. The

association is going to maintain the priority mission of protecting seas with 5 different

events.

With this purpose Turmepa is cooperating with Municipality of Seferihisar, MEAK Maritime

Affairs, Ege Yap, SEKADER and GenTur to make the project called DENZ ETM KAMPI

The project scopes the ages of 150 students between 8-10 on 23th of July and 11 th of August

2012 at Seferihisar for three weeks. The support comes from Turkish and foreign volunteersarranged by GENTUR. The idea is to repeat it every year.

The aim of the project

To make awareness for the future generation about the importance of the sea and its

protection from the pollution, to give sea love and to knowledge about the fact that it is a

living cycle.

To knowledge the society of Seferihisar first then zmir and Ege. To make a project and bring together Private (Sponsors), Civil (Municipality of Seferihisar)

and NGOs (Turmepa) for the protection of the sea.

To give the opportunity to young people to work volunteerly for sea, be sensitive active

citizens for sea.

To increase the amount of oral and visual press news and take more attention.

The Target Audience of the Project:

The primary target audience of our project that is Marine Training Camp is 150 elementary

school students and their families.

Our secondary target audience is voluntary young people and their environment.

Tertiary target audience is large masses, which encompass Aegean-especially Seferihisar and

whole Turkey who will be informed and provided awareness.

LIFE IN THE CAMP

Seferihisar Masmavi Marine Training Camp will be performed on between July 23-August 11,

2012 in Seferihisar with 150 elementary school students and 10 volunteers.

-Three groups will attend in different terms during the camp.(each group has 50 children)

-This camp will be organized as a not for profit. That is to say that each trainer will work as

volunteer and the children will not be expected to pay for this camp.

- There will be 3 volunteers who come from abroad and they be trained in July, 18-22 before

the camp.

HOW THE CAMP LIFE WILL BE ?

Rules Of The Camp

Rules will be organized first of the day for each group. You can see the rules below :

Dont use others stuff without permission. Show respect others.

Inform your leader if you have injury. Listen your leader carefully and ask if you

dont understand anything.

Dont make unclean toilets and showers. Be carefull about cleanliness of dinnig hall,training rooms and day room.

Dont go out from the camping place. Dont be late for the activities.

Be in a good relationship with your friends. Have a shower everyday.

Dont use dirty clothes and use your slippers

everytime.

If there is something unexpected, inform

your leader.

Protect your money and personal stuff. If you do something is not routine, inform

your leader.

How should I dress?

Use pants for appropriate fortraining.

Use hat for protecting your body from the sun.

Use socks which are appropriatefor training.

FLEECE-POLAR-POLARTEC : Polar fleece is used in

casual jackets, hats, sweaters, jogging suits, gymclothes hoodies, inexpensive throw blankets and high-performance outdoor clothing and moreover it can bea vegan alternative to wool.

Dont use new training shoes.

Clues for camping

Have shower often. It will be usefulfor protection from blowfly.

Wear light color clothes.

Blowfly likes dark color clothes. Dont eat if you dont know what it is.

Use large clothes It will be difficultfor bites to insert. Get your socks into shoes for protecting.

Dont run away if you encounterwith an animal. Dont forget you live together with others.

Dont forget that most people aremore dangerous than the animals.Dont be panic if you see an animal.

It is not a race. You shold walk according to others.

The children are going to learn while they are going to play, have fun, share, and

do. They are going to live in the nature. That is to say that they are going to

explore the world outside themselves and learn to respect the mother nature.

The camp will have 3periods. Each group will

constitute of 50 children.

3 of 14 volunteers are foreign

students and 3 of 14

volunteers are the TURMEPAsoffice volunteers.

The children are the

residents of zmir. They

are not expected to pay

for this camp, since this

camp is not-for-profit.

Which activities we are going to participate?

ACTIVITIES

1.

Sea Activities Collection of the wastes

During the camp period, we are going to compose a waste exhibition.

Sea volleyball

We are going to spend time together in the sea where is the water shallow.

Boat Tour & Sea Activities

During the tour, we are going to teach and remind the children the sea related

jobs. Then we let the children to guess the work descriptions of those jobs.

2. Coast Activities Lottery

The stone that is round and as big as an apple will be put in a circle which isdrawn on the sea shore. The player tries to hit this stone with another flat and

palm stone. The aim of the game is to take the round stone out of the circle.

Circle Game

The game starts with two players who hold their hands. Other participants

escape from those two players in order not to be caught by them. When the

two players catch ten of the participants and include them to the circle they

win the game.

Making hand-made Windmill

In this activity, colorful papers, a stick and a clip are used for making windmill.Coloring and cutting activities are useful for the childrens muscles that they

can use them effectively. The children need to run for moving the windmill

and this helps to improve their muscles. Moreover, with this game they have

idea on the wind energy.

Sand Collection

The sands and the land are put in the glass bottle then it is closed. After the

water put into the bottle, it is shook. After a while, it is observed that the

sands sink to the bottom of the bottle.

Coordination Games

This game constitutes of clapping the hands, running around the stone and

running back and forth in groups.

3. Land Activities Wall Painting

The sketch of a picture was drawn by a painting picture on the wall. The

children are going to paint the wall according to the sketch drawn previously.

They are going to be given the brushes and the color boxes.

Snrsz Mavi Trainings

TURMEPA, in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education and

sponsored by Yap Kredi Bank, applies this project to both primary school

students and teachers. In this camp you will carry out Snrsz Mavi training to

the children in the age range of 8-10. (Snrsz Mavi means Deep Blue in

English. Because it is private name, we didnt translate it.)

Creative Ideas

We are going to assign the rules of the camp together while playing games.

So, the children will follow the rules which they decide.

4. Sightseeing and Culture Activities

Sack Castle and Seferihisar

We are going to take a tour around Seferihisar and visit the Sack Castle

during we are going to be informed about the history of that periphery.

The Life History of Aral Sea

Aral Sea is the one of the four largest lakes in the world. Today the lake is

called one of the planets worst environmental disaster. By 2007, the lake

area had further shrunk to 10% of its original size. We are going to watch adocumentary about Aral Lake.

For More Games

Arkamda Biri Var Some one is behind my back ( JAWS)

The participants write their names on their name tag and throw it to a recycling bag Later

on, they pick one from the bag to find out the person of the name

Name Chain

The participants stand in a circle and tell their names to the person next to them. Note :

They can tell their names depending on the mood them have.

Toilet Paper

The manager of the game gives toilet paper to the participants. They are asked break them

off to pieces and get some of them. The participants ask questions to the manager

according to the amount of pieces they make.

Shake Hands

The participants stand in circle and asked to shake hand of one of the participant and ask

their name. Everybody does it in the circle. At the second phase, the participants of the

group goes to anyone they want and tell their name and say hi and gives the regards of the

previous hand shaked one.

Baloons

Participants write their names on a balloon and with music they throw the balloons away.When music stops they all go and get one balloon and asked to meet with the one who

threw it away. According to the size of the group, it can be repated3-4 times.

Zip Zag Boing

The participants stand in a circle, left means zip, right means zap, boing means to point

When participants say zip, they call the name of the right, when they say zap the right one

and when they say boing they pointed out persons name. The game lasts for everybody

tells their names.

Mixed Salad

The chairs are lined and except one participant who is the manager, whole participants sit

in a chair. The manager says certain common points of the participants and these ones

change their places. For example Whole glassed ones change place Whole wearing ring

ones, change place The game can be made more fun with interesting phrases like let

everybody change places . The game is finished after two- three different managers.
