Description : The Professional Fellows Program brings emerging leaders from around the world to the Uni ted Stales for intensive shot1~term fellowships des igned to broaden their professional expertise . Participants are placed in non-profit organizations, private sector businesses, and government offices across the country to learn first·hand how issues in the ir field are addressed in the United States. Participants build a broad network with both their American colleagues and the ir fellow participants. The program also provides an opportuni ty for Fellows to develop a deeper understanding of American society. Thousands of Americans host, work with, and learn from the foreign fellows wh ile they are in the United States. The second phase of the Professional Fellows Progra ms invo lves the selection of Americans to participate in offic ial follow·up programs overseas, in conj unction with the fellows they hosted in the Un ited States.

Program Period: October 20 11 - February 2013

Participation Requires: T ravel to the U.S. (Chicago and Washington , D.C.) for five weeks in Apri l/ May. 2012 or October/November 2012. Trave l to Egypt or Morocco for the American participants. Developing an action plan [Q be implemented upon return to home country. Working with and possibly hosting American participants when they visit Morocco or Egypt in September 20 12 and January 2013 (tentative) for ten days. Remaining engaged and active throughout the program period stated above. Part ic ipating as a program alumnus after the program ends.

Description: FORTUNE Most Powerful Women Summit and the U.s. State Department established the Global Women's Mentoring Partnership in May 2006. This public·private partnership places talented, emerging women leaders from all over the world in mentoring programs with FORTUNE's Most Powerful Women Leaders.

The program will take place Sunday, April 29 through Friday, May 24, 2012 and includes a four-day orientation and leadership and skills training in Washington, DC, where the partici­pants meet with senior women in government, academia and business. The international participants are then paired with one of FORTUNE's Most Powerful Women Leaders for an approximately two-week men­torship assignment in cities across the United States and a n\lo-day communications training and debrief­ing in New York City.

During the two weeks, American and international participants work together in mentoring relationships to share the skills and experiences necessary for strengthening women's leadership. Each participant will have the opportunity to shadow a senior executive and engage in activities specifically designed by the company to meet the needs and interests of the participant. The program provides participants with unique opportunities to develop their management and business skills while gaining experience in the US. business and non-profit environment.

The Near East and South Asia Undergraduate Exchange Program, NESA UGRAD, is a part of GLOBAL UGRAD, a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State. NESA UGRAD will award scholarships to outstanding students from countries of the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia for one~ year of, non·degree undergraduate study al a diverse network of accredited two- and four-year institu tions in the United States.

Mandatory courses will include U.S. study courses, academic skills training and courses in students' fields of study. Participants will take part in community service as well as an unpaid internship.

Description: The Internationa l Leaders in Education Program (ILEP) provides international teachers with unique opportuni­ties to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills and increase their knowledge about the United States. Description: The Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA) will provide 154 secondary school teachers from Europe and Eurasia, East Asia and the Pacific, the Near East, South and Central Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Western Hemisphere with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills, and increase their knowledge about the United States. The six week U.s. professional develop­ment program will include seminars and intensive training in teaching methodologies. lesson planning, teach­ing strategies for the participants' home environment, teacher leadership, as well as the use of computers for Internet, word processing, and as teaching tools, a two week internship at a secondary school to co-teach with American teachers and work with students, and a program closing seminar where all participants will gather to share their U.s. experience and will share selected lesson plans. Study of U.S. Institutes (SUSI) - Scholar Institutes Program

Description: Scholar Institutes are designed to strengthen curricula and improve the quality of teaching about the United States overseas. Participants interact with American schola rs, meet with experts in their disciplines, visit civic institutions and explore the diversity and (ulture of the United States. Programs are offered on American Civilization, American Politics and Political Thought, Contemporary American Literature, U.s. Foreign Policy, Journalism and Med ia and Religious Pluralism.

Eligibility: Highly-motivated and experienced professionals from institutions of higher education. The ideal candid ate would be an experienced professional, whose home institution is seeking to introduce aspects of U.S. studies into its curricu la, to develop new courses in the subject of the institute, to enhance and update existing courses on the United States, or to offer specialized seminars/workshops for professionals in U.s. studies related to the program theme.

Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) - Civic Education Leadership Fellowship

Description: A fellowship opportunity at the Maxwell School for Public Affairs at Syracuse

University. Participants will be matched with a faculty member on campus who will serve as a mentor. Participants will develop individual work plans for curriculum development,

teaching and research skills development, as well as professional enhancement and networking activities.

Eligibility: University teachers and scholars from the Middle East and North Africa with proficiency in English.

Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) - Leaders for Democracy Fellowship Program

Description: A fellowship opportunity at the Maxwell School for Public Affairs at Syracuse

University where participants c0111plete academic coursework and a practical, skill­

building experience with opportunities for networking with like-minded reformers and activists inside and outside the region.

Eligibility: Young civic and democratic reform leaders, between 25 and 40 from the

Middle East and North Africa with proficiency in English and at least five years of work experience.

The Near East & South Asia Undergraduate Scholarship Program (NESA)

Description: NESA fosters cross-cultural exchange and mutual w1derstanding between young emerging leaders in the Near East/ Soulh Asia and the United States (U.s.) Grantees receive scholarships to pursue non-degree undergraduate study in the U.s.

Eligibility: Egyptian students in their firs t, second, and third year of undergraduate study or final year of seconda ry school w ith demonstrated leadership and minimum TOEFL-ITP score of 500.

summer intensive leadership training program in the U.S. The course also aims to deepen the participants' understanding of U.s. cultufe and society.

Study of the United States Institutes (SUS!) for Student Leaders Program

Secondary School Educators Institutes Program for Secondary School Educators Description: Secondary School Educators Institutes provide secondary educators with a deeper understanding of U.s. society, education, and culture, past and present. The programs are organized around a central theme or themes in U.s. civilization and have a strong contemporary component.

Eligibility: Highly-motivated, experienced secondary school educators. Ideal candidate would be a secondary teacher, teacher trainer, curriculum developer, textbook writer, or Ministry of Education official. Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA)

Description: The program brings outstanding secondary teachers to the United States to further develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teachjng skills, and increase their knowledge about the United States. Eligibility: Secondary-level, full-time teachers with five or more years of classroom experience in either English as a Foreign Language, Social Sciences (social studies, civics, history, or geography) or Math and Sciences Duration of Program: Six week program with a two-week internship. Iowa International Writer's Program

Description: A ten-week residency program at Iowa University for established and

emerging creative international writers - poets, fiction writers, dramatists, and non-fiction writers.

Between the Lines: International Writer's Program for Students

Description: The program brings young aspiring writers from Arabic-speaking

countries in the Middle East and North Africa to the University of Iowa to hone their creative writing skills along with their American peers.

Eligibility: Theprogram is designed for youth between the ages of 16 and 19 with

proficiency in Arabic and English (reading, writing, and speaking).

Arabic and English with demonstrated experience working with young people, particularly secondary school/college undergraduate students.

Tech Women Program Description: Bringing the power of global business, technology, and education together, TechWomen will pair women in Silicon Valley with their counterparts in the Middle East and North Africa for a professional mentorship and exchange program at leading technology companies. Using innovative technologies, cutting-edge content, and social networking tools, TechWomen will foster and develop the next generation of women leaders in the technology field by providing women and girls with the access and opportunity needed to pursue tech-based careers. TechWomen is funded by the U.s. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), managed by the Institute of International Education (lIE), and implemented in partnership with the Anita Borg Institute for Women in Technology.

Eligibility: Emerging women leaders in a technical field with 2-5 years full-time professional experience in a technical field; have, at minimum, a post-secondary degree (Bachelor's or equivalent) and proficient in written and spoken English. Duration of Program: Five weeks

Eligibility: Emerging self-motivated women leaders in the business and non-profit sectors between the ages of 28 and 43 with a good command of English.
