INTENTIONS & CONTACT

“Love your neighbor” is the theme for the 2014 campaign for Together in Mission and follows Pope Francis’ call for a greater sense of responsibility for our neighbors in need.

This year, 37 parishes and 56 schools which cannot support themselves will be the beneficiaries of the 2014 campaign.

In 2013 our expected contribution was $121,000. Unfortunately, we did not reach that goal and ended with only $107,000. This meant that the parish had to make up the difference of $14,000 from its operating funds.

The goal for 2014 has been established at $130,788.27. This amount is based on a percentage of the total income of our parish. Each parish in the Archdiocese is treated equally and pays the same percentage.

Last weekend we once again called on you, our generous parishioners to contemplate pledges for this year. If you did not complete your pledge card last week, please pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit as you consider your participation in this vital campaign and make your pledge this weekend.

Past contributors received pledge cards in the mail that they may use or you may use on-line giving which is also strongly encouraged. (www.olphscv.org)

Thank you and God bless you for your love for the less fortunate in our Archdiocese.

LENTEN REGULATIONS♦ Weekdays of Lent: There is no obligation to fast; however, voluntary acts of self-denial are recommended.♦ Ash Wednesday and Good Friday: These are days of fast and abstinence from meat. There is a limit of one full meal on these days for all between the ages of 18 and 59.♦ All Fridays of Lent: These are days of abstinence from meat for all who have reached their 14th year.♦ Easter Duty Obligation: After they have received their First Holy Communion, Catholics are bound by the obligation of receiving Holy Communion at least once a year. This precept should be fulfilled during the Easter Season. Catholics are also bound to confess serious (mortal) sins at last once a year, but this is not limited to the Lenten/Easter Season.

40 DAYS OF PEACE Each person, no matter their age, has a vital role to play in spreading the Joy of the Gospel as our Holy Father asks of us. Each of us can be active in the New Evangelization by spreading Our Lord’s call to bring peace to our world. Thanks to social media, we can now share our ideas on peace with everyone. During each of the 40 days of Lent we are asking you to be active disciples for peace. Each day think about the peace means to you. Think about the joy that comes from knowing you are loved and treasured by God and the peace that brings you. The joy that comes from knowing that He welcomes you with open arms and is ready to help you every day of your life no matter the challenges. Please share your ideas about what peace means to you by taking a picture, writing a prayer or poem, or sharing a scripture verse that speaks to you. Small children can color a picture that their parents’ can photograph and upload. Let’s all spend these 40 days of Lent spreading peace through our ideas, words, and actions and let’s share these with our parish family. Just upload your contributions to our parish Facebook page on our parish website. The contributions with the most “likes” by Palm Sunday will be on exhibit in our “Hall of Peace” in the parish hall on Palm Sunday for all to share and appreciate.

DID YOU KNOW?Create a Plan to Escape from Fire, and Practice with Your Children

According to the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), fires result in about 3,500 American deaths and more than 18,000 injuries each year. Once a fire is detected in the home, there is a short window of time to successfully escape before the smoke becomes overwhelming. Consequently, it is important for parents and caregivers to not

only create a plan for escape, but also practice that plan with their children. If you would like a copy of the article, “A new study sounds the alarm on children and fire safety –What can you do?” email [email protected].

SON OF GOD BULLETIN The Office of New Evangelization of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles recommends to the faithful of the Archdiocese the upcoming feature film, SON OF GOD, the first major motion picture in 50 years to vividly bring to life the story of Jesus from his birth to his resurrection. This film can serve as an evangelization tool to help us share the message of the Gospel that we are all sons and daughters of God through Christ our Lord. Let us take this opportunity to help bring others into a deeper relationship with Jesus and to bring Christ closer into our own hearts this Lenten Season. For more information on the movie SON OF GOD and how to support the film, visit http://seesonofgod.com/.

LECTURAS DE HOYPrimera lectura — Dios nunca te olvidará (Isaías 49:14-15).

Salmo — Descansa sólo en Dios, alma mía (Salmo 62 [61]).

Segunda lectura — No juzgues, sólo Dios juzgará (1 Corintios 4:1-5).

Evangelio — Dios alimenta a las aves y viste a las flores. No estés ansioso; Dios conoce todas tus necesidades (Mateo 6:24-34).
