THE WHITE HOUSE FELLOWS PROGRAM is unparalleled. For nearly 50 years, no other national leadership development program has combined the same degree of rigorous recruitment and selection, diversity of expertise, access to the most senior levels of decision-making in the executive branch of government, and off-the-record meetings with national and international leaders that represent every aspect of American life. This unique combination has shaped the fabric of the Fellows Program, producing exceptional pro- fessionals who are innovators, mentors, and leaders in Fortune 500 companies, national and local government, media, healthcare, the military, education, nonprofit and charitable organizations, finance, technology, engineering, and law. The enriching experience and education we received as Fellows has influenced our communities and our nation. We must ensure the Program is uncompromised and its impact remains strong. We must invest together in sustaining leadership excellence. OUR TIME IS NOW The White House Fellows Foundation and Association (WHFFA) is committed to preserving and protecting the Fellowship experience now and for future generations. The issues confronting our nation require strong leaders. Fellows are equipped with the agile thinking and conviction of character required to confront these challenges and chart the path forward. The need for Fellows is more acute today than ever before. The White House Fellowship is the only national leadership development program that builds a commensurate level of nonpartisan skill sets, problem-solving, and understanding of interagency complexity and the need for cooperation in governance. As we approach the 50th Anniversary of fulfilling the vision President Johnson and John Gardner had for the Fellowship, we must take decisive action to ensure our Program remains strong for the next 50 years, and beyond. Together, we can preserve the White House Fellows Program as we experienced it—our placements, our interactions, our education, and our lifelong commitment to public service. When John Gardner was asked what the most important thing a leader could do for the American people was, he said: “Give them back their future.” We must identify and champion strong leaders. The White House Fellowship is the only program able to achieve this goal. We must keep the Fellowship strong and secure it for future leaders. – Tom Johnson (1965 – 1966) National Campaign Tri-Chair Securing Future Leadership THE CAMPAIGN FOR THE WHITE HOUSE FELLOWS W H I T E H O U S E F E L L O W S F O U N D A T I O N & A S S O C I A T I O N S e c u r i n g F u t u r e L e a d e r s h i p Anniversary 50 th ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fellows Class of 2010 – 2011

THE WHITE HOUSE FELLOWS PROGRAM is unparalleled. For nearly 50 years, no other national leadership development program has combined the same degree of rigorous recruitment and selection, diversity of expertise, access to the most senior levelsof decision-making in the executive branch of government, and off-the-record meetings with national and international leaders that represent every aspect of American life. This unique combination hasshaped the fabric of the Fellows Program, producing exceptional pro-fessionals who are innovators, mentors, and leaders in Fortune 500companies, national and local government, media, healthcare, the military, education, nonprofit and charitable organizations, finance, technology, engineering, and law.

The enriching experience and education we received as Fellows has influenced our communities and our nation. We must ensure the Program is uncompromised and its impact remains strong. We must invest together in sustaining leadership excellence.

OUR TIME IS NOWThe White House Fellows Foundation and Association (WHFFA) is committed to preserving and protecting the Fellowship experience now and for future generations. The issues confrontingour nation require strong leaders. Fellows are equipped with theagile thinking and conviction of character required to confront these challenges and chart the path forward. The need for Fellows is more acute today than ever before.

The White House Fellowship is the only national leadership development program that builds a commensurate level of nonpartisan skill sets, problem-solving, and understanding of interagency complexity and the need for cooperation in governance. As we approach the 50th Anniversary of fulfilling the vision President Johnson and John Gardner had for the Fellowship, we must take decisive action to ensure our Program remainsstrong for the next 50 years, and beyond.

Together, we can preserve the White House Fellows Program as we experienced it—our placements, our interactions, our education, and our lifelong commitment to public service. When John Gardner was asked what the most important thing a leader could do for the American people was, he said: “Give them back their future.”

“We must identify and champion strong leaders. The White House Fellowship is the only program able to achieve this goal. We must keep the Fellowship strong and secure it for future leaders.

Over the past decade, costs for providing an exceptional Fellow experience have increased while direct federal funding for the Program has not. With tighter budgets, sequestration, and otherchallenges on the rise, the WHFFA is committed to preserving and enhancing the Fellows Program for the future while honoringthe legacy of its past leaders and founders.

The WHFFA devotes more than one-half of its annual revenue to the Fellows Program to ensure the experience remainsuncompromised and the impact of the Program is strong. This can only be a temporary solution. As the costs of operating the program increase, WHFFA resources and reserves are not robustenough to continue the required levels of support. Acceleratedfunding is needed for short- and long-term financial stability.

SECURING FUTURE LEADERSHIP: OUR CAMPAIGNAs we approach the WHF’s 50th Anniversary in 2015, the WHFFAis focusing on the future of the Program. THECAMPAIGN FORTHE WHITE HOUSE FELLOWS seeks to raise $8,000,000 from Fellow alumni, friends, patriots, charitable foundations, and corporations, to provide more robust operational revenue and reserves and support three (3) core initiatives:

Provide the same exceptional experience for future Fellows that you experienced—The WHFFA must increaseits annual support of the Fellows Program. Funds from the WHFFA annual budget will be used for educational

initiatives, programmatic support, and networking opportunities.Enhanced funding will enable us to bolster the exceptional Fellow experience, turning current and future Fellows into our nation’sstrongest leaders, and also support outreach and recruitment efforts. Through these expanded efforts, we can increase the qualityof Fellow applicants, target under-represented populations, and increase regional representation in the Program.

Support a vibrant FellowAlumni community—Alumni are the backbone ofour organization; we need

to ensure they are strong now and in the future. To continue fostering Fellow networks, the WHFFA will invest in newtechnology and enhance communicationand collaboration across the Fellowcommunity. By engaging over 687 FellowAlumni working in a variety of communities around the world, we can provide better resources for current Fellows and continuing educational opportunities for former Fellows.

Bolster the WHFFA—The WHFFA supports the Fellows Program and the Fellow Community; ensuring they have the resources to do so is essential to the success of all. Additional resources

for technology, management, and infrastructure are needed to ensure long term viability of the WHFFA.

The value of the White House Fellows Program to our nation is unquestionable. This campaign will have a meaningful, measurable, and enduring impact on the Fellows and the Fellow Alumni community.

“ I keep running into highly capable people all over this countrywho literally never give a thought to the well-being of their community. And I keep wondering who gave them permission to stand aside! I’m asking you to issue a wake-up call to those people – a bugle call right into their ear. And I want you to tell them that this nation could die of comfortable indifferenceto the problems that only citizens can solve. Tell them that.
