There was a second attestation dated 21 Nov 1911, aged 17 years 7 months with occupation seaman and a certification that he had no relations alive only one younger brother and no guardians (date 20 Nov 1911). The records also have a fragment of a letter to Mrs H Evans of Ferndale, 53, Newbridge Road, Weston, Bath concerning forwarding of personal property. “The death of Mrs T. R. Hayes, of 19, Claverton Buildings, Bath, occurred at her home on Good Friday morning, after many years of failing health. She was the wife of a well-known Widcombe furniture dealer, Mr. Thomas R. Hayes, who has been in business in Claverton Buildings for some 17 years.

She leaves two sons, Mr. W. Hayes, who is in business in London, and Mr. Thomas Hayes, who is in business at Walcot; and two daughters, one married and onne, Miss Daisy Hayes, who lives at home. Miss Daisy Hayes is a Sunday School teacher at Manvers Street Chapel, and is chaplain to the Bath branch of the Good Templars. Before her health prevented regular attendance, Mrs. Hayes was closely associated with Widcombe Chapel.” The death of Mary J Hayes, aged 74, was registered 1935/Q2 Bath. After T R Hayes’ death in 1945 the shop was run by William Thomas Hayes, wardrobe dealer, and then T R Hayes, house furnisher. In 1973 the shop was incorporated into The Ram public house at No. 20. The introduction of Rossiter road led to the demolishing of the outhouses behind Claverton Buildings. See also KD51.

In the 1851 census at 17 High Sreet, Southampton: James Keniston, aged 38, ironmonger employing 9 hands, born at Bath, wife Harriet, aged 35, born at Stroud, children: Emily, S, aged 9, born at Southampton, Mary L, aged 3, born at Southampton, and Ann F, aged 2, born at Southampton, two servants and two assistants. In 1856 the partnership of Keniston and Shalders, Southampton, ironmongers was dissolved. In Perry’s Bankrupt Gazette of Sat 6 Dec 1856: “KENISTON James and John SHALDERS, of Southampton, ironmogers, cutlers, smiths, & bellhangers, 1st Oct. Debts by Shalders.” No death registration found for James Keniston. In the 1861 census at 3 Old Bond Street, Bath: Harriett Keniston, aged 45, widow, hosier & draper, born at Brinscombe (Glos), four children and a servant. In 1863 Harriet Keniston, Bath, ladies’ hosier was declared bankrupt. The Bath Chronicle of Thu 7 Jul 1864 carried a notice concerning “the Matter of Harriett Keniston, of Savile Row, Bath, Ladies’ Outfitter,
