TOPIC: AWS D1.1 Overview - Tips for the CWI Exam and the L.A City Certified Welder Written Exam
SPEAKERS: George Rolla, CWI, CWE, CW, Section Chairman & Deputy District Director
BIO: Mr. Rolla has been in the welding industry for 40 years. He owns Advanced Weldtec, Inc, an educational institution member of the American Welding Society, offering training, consulting, inspection and certification services. He has been volunteering with AWS for 10 years, working hard to promote welding and inspection as fulfilling careers. Mr. Rolla spent over 30 years welding for the petrochemical industry in Canada and the US, as well as in the construction and manufacturing industries, before deciding to open a training facility to pass on his knowledge and skills to those who want to become welders and welding inspectors.

Last Section Meeting Nearly 100 people attended our first meeting of the year was held at Motoman Robotics. That was the best turnout ever!!!! We sincerley thank everyone for participating in this meeting, and a special thanks to our Section's Program Chairman, Tim Chubbs, for coordinating this meeting with Tim Rowntree, from Fronious.We also want to thank Motoman Robotics for providing their facility to host the meeting.
Tim Rowntree, Stephanie Gibson and Shaun Relyea gave a fantastic presentation introducing some of their latest technology in spot resistance welding, microplasma and cold metal transfer. The revolutionary cold metal transfer process can join aluminum to steel, using 4043 aluminum wire and making it weld to the aluminum and braze the steel. We all got to try this technology hands on at the lab after a feast of bbq beef and pork organized by our hosts - totally outstanding!And, as usual, we raffled off some awesome prizes. Jeff rizo won $160 at our cash raffle, Margarita Medina
took home an AWS D1.1, and Dave Londo an amazing state of the art welding helmet donated by Fronious.
