you expect to find in a music magazine?The denotation of a music magazine simply ranges from the articles,stories, copy and text.These are things such as celebrity interviews, gossip, double page spreads,new artist material, upcoming popular concert tickets and a Q & A section.Interviews or articles are usually based around an upcoming big concert, anew album or current hit single, therefore branding for that particularartist/band.This portrays synergy as both magazine and artist will benefit. This appealsto target audiences because theyll be fans and therefore conform to usesand gratifications and buy the magazine as entertainment.Cover mounts are used mainly in childrens magazines because althoughthey look initally free, it is apart of the magazine. Target audience contributions such as competitions and reviews allowsthem to possibly win free tickets for a festival for example.

What images would you expect to

find in a music magazine?Firstly you would find a main image on the front cover to attract thereader/celebrity fans attention. This is usually done by direct mode ofaddress as the celebrity/band will be looking at the consumer.

Also on the front cover, there may be smaller images related to thecover lines or main cover line, therefore anchors the text. You would also expect to find images related to an article with the artistinside the magazine.

magazines?General characteristics and features youd expect to find in all musicmagazines is a bold, clear, eye catching mast head.

A colour scheme that flows throughout the whole magazine,

particularly the front cover, cover lines and contents. A celebrity/artist/band as the main image on the front to attract thetarget audience to buy the magazine.

All magazines have a certain layout that makes it look its best via ruleof thirds to ensure the best bits hit the hot spots.

They all have barcodes and issue dates in order to follow when themagazines come out on sale.Magazines sometimes have straplines, tag lines and sky lines to addextra features or smaller coverlines.

Why are these features present on allof the magazines? Why are they

important?The masthead is important because it titles the magazine and givesessentially, the genre of it.The main image is the first thing the reader sees via direct mode of

address. It is always someone famous and therefore attracts theconsumers via the star appeal.Cover lines show an insight into the features in the magazine, it elicits

what topics will be included in the issue.Skylines are included to reveal extra information, or competitions, to

suggest to the reader that there is loads in the issue.Colour scheme is used to allow the reader to know the magazine just when they see it in the shelf. For example red is always red and white.It runs throughout the magazine to set an attractive layout.

Magazine covers- KerrangThe Kerrang magazine cover is of the rock genre,however conforms to the sub-genres of gothic metaland black metal.It is a rock magazine because of mise-en-scene usedthroughout eg dark clothing of models, dark makeupand low key lightingThe main cover line features a popular rock band andsmaller cover lines such as their pitch -black yearrevealed. This conveys that the target audience is intothis type of music and conform to the typicalstereotypes of emos, goths and punks.
