Writing a Percent as a Decimal

2.2%= 2.2/100

= 002.2

= 0.022

Write as a fraction with a denominator of 100

Divide by moving the decimal point left two places. You may need to write one or more zeros.

0.333 = 33/1,000

= 33.3/100

= 33.3%

b. 7/80

7/80 = 0.0875

• To write a percent as a decimal, write the percent as a fraction with a denominator of 100. Then divide to convert the fraction to a decimal.

• To write a decimal as a percent, rewrite the decimal as a fraction with a denominator of 100. Then write the fraction as a percent.

• To write a fraction as a percent, divide to write as a decimal first.

• Order the following numbers from least to greatest. 0.35, 2/5, 30%, and 53%

• Four students surveyed their English classes asking, “Do you have a pet in your home?” They reported the results as 0.35, 2/5, 30%,

and 53%. Order the results from least to greatest.

2/5 = 0.40

30%= 0.30

53%= 0.53

Write each fraction or percent as a decimal

Since 0.30 < 0.35 < 0.40 < 0.53, the numbers in order from least to greatest are 30% < 0.35 < 2/5 < 53%
