Section 6.1 of the Highway Traffic Act states: Any person who (a) presents a false document for the purpose of obtaining a photographic identification; (b) permits any other person to use a photographic identification issued to the first person; (c) uses a photographic identification for the purpose of making a false presentation; (d) defaces or alters a photographic identification; or (e) has in his or her possession a photographic identification that has been defaced or altered is guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding $1000. Section 89(e) of the Highway Traffic Act states: Every person is guilty of an offence who (e) gives a false or fictitious name or gives a false address in any application for a driver’s licence or duplicate thereof or makes a false statement or conceals a material fact in the application or in any statement made or in giving information to the Registrar for any purpose in connection with this act. Any person found guilty of a Section 89(e) offence will be subject to 12 demerit points and a fine not exceeding $1000. Section 6.1 of the Highway TrafficAct states:

A Voluntary ID may only be issuedto residents of Prince Edward Island,which includes a person who

(i) for more than 30 days in any yearis employed or engaged in anyactivity for gain in the province,

(ii) is attending school or college inthe province,

(iii) is in the province and whosechildren attend school in the province, or

(iv) lives in the province.

This document is valid for a fiveyear period.

Acceptable Residency/AddressInformation

Two pieces of the following must beshown:

current utility bills (electric,cable, oil delivery, phone, etc.)formal rental or leaseagreementletter of employment oncompany letterhead (or paystubs with name and address)

• any mail from Federal orProvincial Government(tax, GST, correspondence, etc.)bank cheque with name and addressmortgage documentscredit card bill/bank statement

All of the above must have nameand current PEI address.

Voluntary IDs will only be issued toindividuals who have 3 resourcedocuments that include a photo, fulllegal name and signature or to thoseindividuals who have a digital photoon the PEI Registry of Motor Vehicledatabase.

Acceptable Resource DocumentsMust have at least one (1) PHOTO

DOCUMENT from Column 1

Column 1(One or more of the following)

Valid Canadian Passport(Birth Certificate must accompany Canadian Passport if document is being used for full legal name.)Aviation Document issued byTransport Canada Ontario/Quebec Health CardSecure Certificate of Indian Status (SCIS)Permanent Resident Card (CIC)Citizenship Certificate with photo issuedbefore Feb. 1, 2012 (CIC)

Column 2(No more than two of the following)

Birth CertificateHealth CardCredit CardSIN CardBank CardAny other recognized document with signature

A young person who has a validbirth certificate may be accompaniedby his or her parents or legalguardian for identification and/orproof of residency purposes. Theparent or legal guardian will berequired to present his or her driver’slicence or voluntary ID.

In those cases where an individualdoes not have or cannot obtain theproper documents, please telephone 902-368-6225 or902-432-2714 to schedule anappointment to determine if a voluntary ID may be issued.
