United Nations agencies are directly involved in improving the living conditions of people in developing countries.

• The World Health Organization (WHO) sends people trained in medicine, agriculture, water quality, engineering, and other health-related skills to countries in need.

• The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) focuses on programs that aid children, such as immunization programs, day-care and health centers, and school food programs. UNICEF also runs training programs for nurses and teachers.
