All rights reserved Any unauthorized reproduction of this manual, in any form is prohibited 1.9 Company Policy On Personnel The Company recognizes the fact that human resources, both shore based and shipboard, and their effective administration are the key factors in quality operations. In order to fulfil its belief the Company has set policies while appointing staff both ashore and afloat as mentioned hereunder: - a) Shore Personnel 1) As far as possible, to appoint Superintendent who have worked as Master or Chief Engineer within the fleet and have shown outstanding ability for leadership and has sound record. 2) Prior appointing Superintendent from outside the fleet, verification of his performance and ability is made from his past Company or through references. 3) All appointment is made with an understanding that the first six months are probation period during which time his capabilities are assessed by the Senior Management. On satisfactory completion of this probation period, if found fit, he is confirmed as a Superintendent. 4) The other shore personnel are recruited through advertisement and selected on the basis of interview conducted by the Administration Department and or the head of each department. Special emphasis is made on his/her past experience and background. Their performance is also scrutinized during the probation period. b) Ships Personnel The Company recognizes that safe and efficient operation of a vessel is greatly dependent on the expertise and experience of the staff appointed to the vessel. To ensure that the vessels are always manned with desired quality of staff following basic guidelines are followed 1) To employ staff who are duly qualified to serve in the rank they have been selected for. 2) To employ only those seafarers who are mentally and physically sound and medically fit to effectively execute the set objectives of the Company. 3) To employ seafarers who have previous experience on the type of same or similar vessels to which they have been assigned. 4) To inculcate a sense of loyalty and dedication and to encourage a sense of belonging to become long serving employees of the Company. 5) To always provide a safe and healthy working environment to all staff.
