Parametric Equations
• To use your calculator to graph a parametric equation:
• Go to mode and put your calculator in parametric mode
• Push y = and type in X1T and Y1T
• Set your window to the given interval. The given interval will be the T-min and T-max
Parametric Equations
• Eliminating the parameter:• Given the parametric equations write the
equation in rectangular form
(as y = mx + b)
Take your x equals equation and solve for t
T will now be in terms of x
Substitute in what t equals for all the t’s in the y equals equation
Simplify
Parametric Equations
• Finding the parametric equations for a graph
• Given an equation in rectangular form
y = mx + b and a parameter
Take the parameter and solve for x
X will now be in terms of t.
Parametric Equations
• Substitute in what x equals for all the x’s in the equation
• Simplify
• Your final answer should be two equations
x equals and y equals and both equations should have a t in them
