Why is it important to have all the strips of polymer from the same polymer bag? 3. It is important to use all the same polymer because different pollymers have different strengths and that can have an effect on how many waights we will put on before it snaps to make it a fair test you need to use the same bag and to be all the same length / width (3 marks) 4. Suggest how you could ensure that your work is; Reproducible I would share results with other people why is it important your results should be reproducible?

NAME______________________________________Section 1: Practice Questions

The strength of a polymer strip depends on the width of the polymer strip'.

1. Identify two sources that you used for your research.

http://www.primaryresources.co.uk/science/pdfs/rsc_tc_nc1.pdf

http://www.mtu.edu/materials/k12/experiments/tensile/

Which of these sources was the most useful? Why was it a better source than the other one?Primary reasorces was the best website because it gave me a experiment and a risk assessment

http://www.mtu.edu/materials/k12/experiments/tensile/ diddnt tell us anything all it told us was about pollymers and where you could get them and what they are used for so if I was going to pick a website In my opinion the first on because it is the best one to use

2. Why is it important to have all the strips of polymer from the same polymer bag?3. It is important to use all the same polymer because different pollymers have different strengths and that can have an effect on how many waights we will put on before it snaps to make it a fair test you need to use the same bag and to be all the same length / width (3 marks)

4. Suggest how you could ensure that your work is;

Reproducible I would share results with other people why is it important your results should be reproducible?

to see the similarities and to check if there is any anomalies results to make sure it is reproducible.

5. In this question you will be assessed on using good English, organising information clearly and using specialist terms where appropriate.

Describe how you plan to do your investigation to test the hypothesis given.

You should include: The equipment you plan to use How you will use the equipment The measurements you are going to make How you will make the investigation a fair test A risk assessment.

The strength of a polymer strip depends on the width of the polymer strip'.

Equipment ListSticky tapeTableMorrisons carrier bagScissorsHole punch10g massesMass hangerruler

Step by Step Method1. Gather all equipment.2. Measure the carrier bag, using a ruler, to 20cm long and 2cm wide.3. Cut out 15 polymer strips using the scissors. 4. Hole punch the polymer strip 2cm from the bottom, in the middle.5. Stick it to the table using sticky tape. Make sure it is 2cm onto the desk.6. Put the mass hanger through the hole in the polymer and then put 1 10g mass on at a time until it snaps.7. Put the results in a table.8. Repeat it 3 times.9. Repeat steps 1-8 changing the width of the carrier bag strips by 2cm each time. (4cm, 6cm, 8cm, 10cm).

Fair TestI will use the same carrier bag for all of the stripsI will add the same interval of masses each times (10g)

Risk AssessmentStay stood up in case you drop a mass because if it hits you it could hurt you. To avoid getting hurt, keep chairs tucked under and use a tray to catch the masses and stop them falling on you.Dont put the carrier bag on your head because you could suffocate.Wear safety goggles to protect your eyes if the masses bounce upwards.
