SECOROC ROCKET BIT

– making larger chips out of soft rock

As the name implies, soft rock ought to be easier to drill than hard rock. But that’s not always the case. Soft rock demands a specific design for optimum performance.

Atlas Copco Secoroc has come up with the answer, The Secoroc RocketBit. Made for DTH production drilling in soft to medium hard rock, it’s ideal for quarrying and mining operations and has even been successful in water well drilling.

An aerodynamic soft rock innovation

This innovative drill bit design includes deep grooves that are adequate to remove considerably large chips. There is simply more space between the forged steel body and rock face and that allows for greater flushing and less recrushing.

But this wasn’t done by trial and error! Our engineers were able to use their digital “wind tunnel” to simulate the best angles for optimum chip removal.

Faster penetration and longer service life

The Secoroc RocketBit offers higher penetration rates than other equivalent models – a penetration that’s reliable

throughout its service life. And thanks to the higher petetration rate, each drilled hole requires less hammering, less stress and strain on the drill string and drill rig, not to mention improved fuel economy.

More holes per day

As the shape of a drill bit determinates drilling productivity, Secoroc RocketsBit can produce more holes per day than any other soft or medium hard rock bit. So, in the long run a contractor working for a mining or quarry company has the potential of taking on more work and increasing revenues through greater tonnage and lower costs per metre drilled.

Keeping sharp

Thanks to the forged front, the cuttings are efficiently removed from the face. This in combination with the protruding buttons reduces the need of grinding. And should the need arise, Secoroc Grind Matic Jazz or Secoroc Grind Matic BQ2 grinders with the patented Secoroc diamond grinding wheels can restore these buttons to perfection.

Secoroc RocketBit is available with full-ballistic, semi-ballistic, or spherical buttons in bit diameters from 90 mm to 115 mm.

More shank styles and diameters are under development, increasing Secoroc's range of drilling bits.
