Bible Study/Coffee & Theology Saint Michael’s Bible Study Group meets each Tuesday at 7:00 PM, in Building #13 (Building #7, on the 2nd Tuesday of each month) at the Religious Education Center Com-plex. Come and join us on the Journey. If you have any questions, contact Tom Dean, at: 706-860-6946.

Helping you to live a Gospel inspired life in an increasingly secular world.

On this Second Sunday of Lent, we see an image of Jesus at the conclu-sion of the ministry that began with his sojourn in the desert last week. It is a glorified image of Jesus, conversing with Moses and Elijah. As we continue our Lenten journey of conversion and renewal, perhaps this image can inspire us today to ask God what needs to be transfigured in our own lives. Reflecting on how God comes into our lives, daily, in dif-ferent ways (e.g.— through His light shining on us, His Word speaking to our hearts, minds and souls, through His Means of Grace, our families, friends, co-workers, …) is a good way for us to allow God to reveal to us what needs to be transformed by His Saving Grace, within our lives. Striving to create young disciples - Catholic

Youth Ministry. If you love the Lord and want to grow in your faith then this group is for you! Join us, for worship and praise, while growing in our faith. Food will be provided. Saint Michael's Book Club meets each Thursday at

7:00 PM in Building #13, at the Religious Education Center Complex. We’re currently reading the "Church of Spies: The Pope's Secret War against Hitler" by Mark

Riebling. This is a historical novel, which takes place just before and during World War II. It sheds light on the Catholic Church's role, during the war. It is an exciting read and gives a better understanding of the actions of Pope Pius XII. Come and Join us, to discuss this excellent piece of work. If you have any questions, contact Tom Dean, at: 706-860-6946.

Lenten Resolutions for Married Couples Inspired by Pope Francis

Are you wondering how to grow in holiness this Lent, together with your spouse? Try following some advice from the

Pope! In homilies and addresses, Pope Francis has spoken quite directly about how husbands and wives should treat each other, about prayer within the family, and other ways the family lives its identity as a “domestic Church.” So, this Lent, why not commit with your spouse to try one of the following Lenten resolutions, based on words from the Holy Father? 1. Be courteous to your spouse. Use polite requests: “May I? Can I?” For example, “Would you like for us to do this?” and “Do you want to go out tonight?” “To ask per-mission means to know how to enter with courtesy into the lives of others. … True love does not impose itself harshly and aggressive-ly.” (Address to Engaged Couples, Rome, February 14, 2014) 2. Say “thank you” to your spouse. “It seems so easy to say these words, but we know that it is not. But it is important! … It is important to keep alive the awareness that the other person is a gift from God – and for the gifts of God we say thank you!” (Address to Engaged Couples, Rome, Feb. 14, 2014) 3. Ask forgiveness from your spouse. Say, “I’m sorry.” “Let us learn to acknowledge our mistakes and to ask for for-giveness. ‘Forgive me if today I raised my voice’; ‘I’m sorry if I passed without greeting you’; ‘excuse me if I was late’.” (Address to Engaged Couples, Rome, February 14, 2014) “Never let the sun go down without making peace! Never, never, never!” (Address to En-gaged Couples, Rome, February14, 2014). “It is important to have the courage to ask forgiveness when we are at fault in the fami-ly.” (Address to Participants in the Pilgrimage of Families, Rome, Oct. 26, 2013) 4. Pray together with your spouse and family. “Praying the Our Father together, around the table, is not some-thing extraordinary: it’s easy. And praying the Rosary together, as a family, is very beautiful and a source of great strength! And, praying for one another! The husband for his wife, the wife for her husband, both together for their children, the children for their grandparents

… praying for each other. This is what it means to pray in the family and it is what makes the family strong: prayer.” (Homily for Family Day, Rome, October 27, 2013) Pray to the Lord to “multiply your love and give it to you fresh and good each day.” Pray together, “Lord, give us this day our daily love.” (Address to

Engaged Couples, Rome, February 14, 2014)

Prayers, Prayers, Prayers There are many different times in the day that we can pray. It is said that we should pray without ceasing. I’m glad God can decipher our prayers from the rest of our thoughts! He knows our hearts.

Catholic Community Question This week’s Question: “What is ‘Low Sunday’?” The an-swer to last week’s Question: “What is the ‘Mass of the Pre-Sanctified?’” This is not a Mass at all, but an old name for the Good Friday service which includes Communion “pre-sanctified” (consecrated the night before – at the Mass on Holy Thursday). Good Friday remains the only day of the year with-out a celebration of the Eucharist.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament Make plans to spend time with the Lord, during this Lenten season. St. Michael’s will have Adoration and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, in Good Shep-herd Chapel (GSC), Wednesdays, from 1830-1930. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Centuries ago, these Lenten days were a time of intense final preparation for the candidates for baptism. By now, they had already been numbered among the “elect” for Easter baptism, and were daily challenged to excel in prayer, in fasting, and in works of charity. As is true today, at a certain point in the week-ly assembly for Eucharist, the non-baptized were dismissed from the assembly for their own learning and prayer. While they might have had impressions about the Eucharist, they had no direct experience. The rites of the church were secret and its worship places off-limits. For the Easter Vigil, those to be bap-tized arrived very hungry from long fasting, and perhaps very apprehensive as to how initiation was to be accomplished. A long night of vigil and storytelling, a shimmering pool of bapt-

STEWARDSHIP: TIME, TALENT & TREASURE

is placed before you?

ism, the anointing with oil and clothing with white robes came as something of a surprise. At the end of a long, life-changing night of embrace by Christ and the community, as the Eucharistic feast ended, a final surprise was brought forward. To address the deep hunger of the newly baptized, the church offered a bowl of milk and honey, sign of promises fulfilled, sign of community, prosperi-ty, and peace, and yet another foretaste of heaven’s banquet. —

What high mountain must we climb for us to wit-ness Jesus’ transfiguration? We must climb the high mountain of listening to Jesus, the high moun-tain of being pleasing to Him, the high mountain of opening ourselves to the touch of His Presence. When we climb this mountain, we forsake our own agenda of pitching the tent of satisfaction with our own works to enter into the glory of the Life Jesus offers us. The mountain is steep; the climb is ours to choose. “The Lord said to Abram…’I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.’” — Gene-
