Acts ofthe Apostles 4:32-35 / r John 5:r-6 / John 20:19-31
ln the first few days after our first child was born, I wasn't conscious of time.l'd sit still and look at this miracle of life, knowing that I loved her with all myheart and that our lives would never be the same. l'd get to the end of theday and wonder where the time had gone. And when she was married lastyear, I remembered those days like they were yesterday.
Something like that is happening now, but the first week of Easter is morethan a recollection of the empty tomb. Each day's Gospel reading refers toappearances of the risen Christ to his disciples. In this way we mark the"new creation" brought about by Christ's resurrection.
For many of us, the week was another round of work or school. Ourbusyness might have kept us from giving much thought to the feast we justcelebrated. But in our spiritual lives, time has stood still for a little while so
we might ponder this miracle of life. lt's a reminder that we're born new inthis moment, an invitation to savor the experience and allow ourselves to be
changed by it.
ln today's reading, St. Paulgives us a glimpse of what life reborn looked likefor the new Christian community. There was unity of heart and mind andgenerosity toward those who were in need. After the resurrection, their liveswould never be the same.
The Church takes its time with Easter so that, no matter how old we get,we'll remember it like it was yesterday and live accordingly.

A Wrct are archangels? Wto nanrcd thent? They were neuer6. human, so how can they be saints?
The ancient Babylonians believed God has attendants whoare spiritual beings. Judaism maintained this belief,, and thusthe Catholic religion teaches that "purely spiritual creatures"called angels eist (Catechixn of the Catholic Church,330).
The word angel comes from the Hebrew word tnalakh, whichmeans "to send." The Bible has many references to difflerentkinds of angels. Some angels are messengers.
The prefix arch- rneens "important." Thus, archangels areentrusted with very important messages from God. Forexample, the archangel Gabriel announced to Mary that shewas to be the mother of God (Luke 1:26).
Three archangels are mentioned in the Bible. Biblical writersnamed them in reference to the messages they delivered:Midruel ("who is like God"), Gabriel ("power of God"), andRaphael ("God has healed"). Their feast day is September 29.
Archangels are not human, but they fit the definition of a
saint. Therefore, the Roman Catholic Church added thearchangels to the canon (lisQ of saints, because a saint isanyone who is holy. if someone is holy, he or she lives in thepresence of God and efsts to serve God.
