Welcome to Christ’s Lutheran Church as we connect to God, each other and the community. May you experience the joy of God’s presence as we worship together this morning. We are blessed by your presence! Enjoy our gracious lobby to greet friends, guests, and visitors before the service. Please sign the guest book in the lobby if you are visiting with us today, and include your address and zip code. Please allow others to enjoy quiet space and time in the pews as they prepare for worship. Our musical prelude begins our worship experience.

We encourage you to use this time to silently prepare to receive God’s Word.

WHEN YOU LEAVE…..Introduce yourself to someone you do not know.

The flowers on the altar today are dedicated to the Glory of God!

You may download an electronic copy of the worship program to your electronic device by scanning the QR code on the lobby bulletin board.

Cell Phones - Please silence your electronic devices before entering the worship area. We request that you put your cell phone on “Airplane” mode to avoid any interference with the sound system. An AED is located in the office hallway. There is an automated external defibrillator (AED) in case of an emergency. Large Print Bulletins are available in the lobby, or ask an usher.

Activity Bags for young children are also available in the lobby.

The Prelude "Be Thou My Vision" Old Irish, arr. Wood

Welcome and Announcements Moment of Reflection

Please stand in body or spirit.

GATHERING The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God.

The Confession and Forgiveness

Blessed be the holy Trinity, ☩ one God, who brings us safely through

the sea, who gives us water from the rock, who leads us into the land of milk and honey. Amen.

Let us come home to God, confessing our sin.

Silence is kept for reflection

Merciful Father, we have sinned against heaven and before you. We do not fully live as your sons and daughters. We use your gifts to our own ends. Forgive us and restore us, that we may resist all that draws us away from you, and be at peace with one another. Amen. We are reconciled to God through Christ; for his sake, God does not count our trespasses against us. Once dead in sin, we are now alive to God. Once lost, we now are found. God clothes you in the finest robe of all, the righteousness of Jesus Christ, forgiving you all your sins and making of you a new creation. Amen. The Greeting

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. The Prayer of the Day

Let us pray together: God of the covenant, in the mystery of the cross you promise everlasting life to the world. Gather all peoples into your arms, and shelter us with your mercy, that we may rejoice in the life we share in your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

THE WORD

God speaks to us in scripture, preaching, and song.

First Reading Genesis 15:1-12, 17-18 God promises a childless and doubting Abram that he will have a son, that his descendants will be as numerous as the stars, and that the land of Canaan will be their inheritance. Abram’s trust in God is sealed with a covenant-making ceremony, a sign of God’s promise.

A reading from Genesis 15.

1After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, “Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.” 2But Abram said, “O Lord God, what will you give me, f or I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” 3And Abram said, “You have given me no offspring, and so a slave born in my house is to be my heir.” 4But the word of the Lord came to him, “This man shall not be your heir; no one but your very own issue shall be your heir.” 5He brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” 6And he believed the Lord; and the Lord reckoned it to him as righteousness. 7Then he said to him, “I am the Lord who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to possess.” 8But he said, “O Lord God, how am I to know that I shall possess it?” 9He said to him, “Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.” 10He brought him all these and cut them in two, laying each half over against the other; but he did not cut the birds in two. 11And when birds of prey came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away. 12As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram, and a deep and terrifying darkness descended upon him. 17When the sun had gone down and it was dark, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces. 18On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, “To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates.”

Word of God. Word of Life. Thanks be to God.

The Psalm - Psalm 27:1-9 The congregation will sing the following response.

1The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom then shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? 2When evildoers close in against me to devour my flesh, they, my foes and my enemies, will stumble and fall. 3Though an army encamp against me, my heart will not fear. Though war rise up against me, my trust will not be shaken. 4One thing I ask of the LORD; one thing I seek; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life; to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek God in the temple. Response 5For in the day of trouble God will give me shelter, hide me in the hidden places of the sanctuary, and raise me high upon a rock. 6Even now my head is lifted up above my enemies who surround me. Therefore I will offer sacrifice in the sanctuary, sacrifices of rejoicing; I will sing and make music to the LORD. 7Hear my voice, O LORD, when I call; have mercy on me and answer me. 8My heart speaks your message— “Seek my face.” Your face, O LORD, I will seek. 9Hide not your face from me, turn not away from your servant in anger. Cast me not away—you have been my helper; forsake me not, O God of my salvation. Response

Second Reading Philippians 3:17--4:1 Although Paul’s devotion to Christ has caused him to be persecuted, he does not regret the course he has taken. Writing from prison, he expresses confidence in a glorious future and encourages other Christians to follow in his footsteps.

A reading from Philippians 3.

17Brothers and sisters, join in imitating me, and observe those who live according to the example you have in us. 18For many live as enemies of the cross of Christ; I have often told you of them, and now I tell you even with tears. 19Their end is destruction; their god is the belly; and their glory is in their shame; their minds are set on earthly things. 20But our citizenship is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. 21He will transform the body of our humiliation that it may be conformed to the body of his glory, by the power that also enables him to make all things subject to himself. 4:1Therefore, my brothers and sisters, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, my beloved. Word of God. Word of Life. Thanks be to God.

The Holy Gospel Luke 13:31-35 Neither Herod’s plotting nor Jerusalem’s resistance to maternal love will deter Jesus from his sacrificial mission.

The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. Glory to you, O Lord.

Just then some Pharisees came up and said, “Run for your life!

Herod’s on the hunt. He’s out to kill you!” Jesus said, “Tell that fox that

I’ve no time for him right now. Today and tomorrow I’m busy clearing out

the demons and healing the sick; the third day I’m wrapping things up.

Besides, it’s not proper for a prophet to come to a bad end outside

Jerusalem. Jerusalem, Jerusalem, killer of prophets, abuser of the

messengers of God! How often I’ve longed to gather your children,

gather your children like a hen, Her brood safe under her wings—

but you refused and turned away! And now it’s too late: You won’t see

me again until the day you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name

of God.’”

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

The Apostles’ Creed

Let us affirm the Christian faith in the words of the Apostles’ Creed. I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Prayers of Intercession

Please kneel or sit as you are able for the prayers.

Seeking the grace, mercy, and love of almighty God, we offer our prayers for the church, for people in need, and for all of creation.

A brief silence. Compassionate God, call your people to stand firm as citizens of heaven. As we are humbled by your wondrous love, nurture such mercy in our hearts and ministries. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. Display your faithfulness to creation in the changing of the seasons. Orchestrate the great song of praise that comes from rivers, birds, mountains, livestock, and wind. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. Drown out the terror in the world with acts of loving kindness and generosity. Release political leaders from pride and fear to act justly and to serve citizens. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. Rush to answer those who cry out to you in time of trial. Give shelter to your vulnerable children, and cover them in the comfort of your mothering wings. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. Grant solace to people who long to be parents, but have faced difficulty in bearing or adopting children. Build life-giving parent and child relationships for the sake of all. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Here other intercessions may be offered.

Build up your holy community of saints through the work of bishops and missionaries. Spread your word through your people for the sake of the world. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. Reveal your will as you receive our prayers, and conform our ways to your ways; through the saving work of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Peace

The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. And also with you.

The congregation shares the greeting with one another saying, “Peace be with you,” or similar words.

Please be seated.

The Offering

The Musical Offering: "The Lamb" Coleman, arr. Hayes

The Lamb, O Father, where's the sacrifice? Faith sees, believes, God will provide the Lamb of price! Worthy is the Lamb whose death makes me his own... He sighs, he dies, he takes my sin and wretchedness, He lives, forgives He gives me his own righteousness,

Worthy is the Lamb reigning on his throne!

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

The Words of Institution

Pastor: Holy, mighty, and merciful Lord, heaven and earth are full of your glory; In great love you sent to us Jesus, your Son, who reached out to heal the sick and suffering, who preached good news to the poor and who, on the cross opened his arms to all.

In the night in which he was betrayed….

Pour out upon us the Spirit of your love, O Lord, and unite the wills of all who share this heavenly food, the body and blood of Jesus Christ our Lord; to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit be all honor and glory, now and forever.

All: Amen

The Lord’s Prayer

Lord, remember us in your kingdom and teach us to pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.

60+ FUN & FELLOWSHIP - SENIORS MINISTRY – April 11 @ noon

Spring is here so shake off winter and enjoy an afternoon of fun and fellowship. Have fun talking to members and neighbors, sharing a meal and being enlightened.

Join us Thursday, April 11th at noon in the Christ’s Church Parish Hall.

Now that the weather is getting warmer many people’s thoughts go to

gardening. This month we feature a Master Gardener, Karen Eble Dickter.

Karen will tell us about the Master Gardener Program, the community

gardens she is involved in, and give us some basic gardening information

about soils, invasives, and pruning.

Please note that April is a BYOL month. What’s that mean? It means bring your own lunch. Coffee, tea, and a variety of desserts will be provided.

Open to all. Bring a friend or neighbor. Fellowship, food and learning. You don’t want to miss it. EASTER BREAKFAST – April 21 @ 8 & 10:30 am

The CLC Men's Group will be hosting a congregational Easter Breakfast between the 8 am and 10:30 worship hours on Easter Sunday.

Enjoy breakfast and table fellowship with friends and family on Easter Sunday at CLC. LITERARY LADIES – May 5 @ 12 noon

Invitation to ALL Women of the Church: Join Literary Ladies - an inter-generational women's book group! Our next book is Make Your Home Among Strangers, by Jennine Capo Crucet. We will meet after church at Halligan's in Flourtown, to enjoy lunch, fellowship & a book discussion.

RSVP by May 1 to Betty Messer [email protected]

Please help by spreading the word! Women of CLC, let's get reading--and sharing--together! GREEN TEAM TIP: According to the World Economic Forum and the U.N., water scarcity is the top long-term environmental risk globally for the next decade, just as great a threat, as well as partially caused by, climate change. Smarter management of water is needed - what can we do? Track down water leaks; replace old toilets with efficient models with the WaterSense label; wash full laundry loads and/or use right-size load settings; take 5 minute showers; wash the car less often & drive less; reduce lawn watering to a weekly one-hour soaking before 10 am in the morning. As with other environmental issues, many people taking small steps adds up!
